Local Government elections - Low Turnout

It was low-keyed vibes coming into the local government elections today. Last week when the security and election day workers voted, reports are that the turnout was unimpressive.
It was left to be seen if today the polls will fare the same fate. And from what YardFlex heard in the street it was just the same.
One woman told YardFlex, "I won't be voting. I don't even know who the candidates are in my community. Not even an official meeting to present them," was the disgusted comment.
The candidates were on a campaign trail, putting in last minute preparation for the big day. But they have not come without incidents.
Monday evening three persons from JLP's James Robertson motorcade were shot one of them later died. Owen Muir of Eleven Miles, Bull Bay succumbed to his injuries in the Princess Margaret Hospital Monday night.
According to report on radiojamaica.com he was shot in the head while the motorcade which was being led by Member of Parliament for West St. Thomas James Robertson was traveling through Navarre Lane in the Seaforth Division.
Mr. Robertson's driver, Mr. Muir and another man were among JLP supporters conducting final campaigning for the Local Government Elections when they were fired on.
In another incident People's National Party (PNP) Chairman for Central Kingston, Joseph Knight, is now in critical condition after being shot in the constituency Monday night.
Mr. Knight, who is 60 years old, is also the campaign manager for the PNP candidate in the Rae Town Division Ann-Marie Morrison.
Two weeks ago Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for the Rae Town Division Rosalie Hamilton was shot.
In spite of all the negativity surrounding the elections the two main parties are upbeat and confident.
