Judy Mowatt gives back

• Words of thanks for Arts Foundation

edit_Judy Mowatt.jpgWhen gospel singer Judy Mowatt took a trek in December 2003, to Bath Primary and Junior High she had no idea what the Lord was leading her into. In fact she didn't know a soul there except the pull to go there and that she did, and before she knew it she was in discussion about staging a children's treat and gospel concert there.

That year she accommodated 500 children and adults who enjoyed grocery items and other goodies. They capped off the days activities with a grand gospel concert. The following year another element was added to the treat and that was a health fair.

Now three years later Judy Mowatt through her Ministry is moving on to another level with the community they have 'adopted' as their own.

A lot of residents suffered greatly in Hurricane Dean and this year it will be a treat with a difference.

"We are trying to see if we can help to replace some of them," Judy Mowatt told YardFlex.

According to her there is one particular golden ager who is in dire need of help. "She lives on the gully bank and lost her roof and the house is falling apart. It is our intention to rebuild," Mowatt promised.

She has a lot of praise for First Caribbean Bank which has come on stream to help in the effort.

"This can't be done on our own, so we are appealing to more corporate citizens for assistance," was the passionate plea from the gospel crusader.

December 20 the annual treat will take place in Bath, St. Thomas at the Primary and Junior High School. From inception the gospel concert has always been free, but this time there will be a small contribution of $100 to enter. And according to Mowatt it will be towards offsetting a bus for the Bath Ministry.

"We have regular bible studies and other activities and it costs a bundle to transport the brethren from Bath to Kingston," she explained.

Among the artistes slated to perform later on after the treat and health fair are Sandra Brooks, Kevin Downswell, Perpetual Praise, DJ Moses, Jodian Pantry and Lenya Wilks (who have been instructed to perform only gospel songs).

Judy Mowatt who recently had honour bestowed upon her by Caribbean Development for the Arts Sports and Culture Foundation had heartfelt words of thanks. "I have to acknowledge them for showing appreciation and remembering me. When your name is not constantly in the media or you are not on the Billboard charts, you sometime think people have forgotten you...but it showed they still remembered," was the grateful comment.

Miss Mowatt, you are the true meaning of God Bless

God Bless you and continue the great work of teaching and especially praying for the less fortunate. Many would have probably had very bad days in their life, had you not entered into agreement with God for change for them.

god bless you always
