Long gone are the days in Jamaican entertainment when huddling around the radio for a listen to Miss Lou and Ranny was the way to get our laughs.

Today stand up comedy is fast becoming more popular and venues, like Back Yard on Constant Spring Road, are being transformed into "Comedy Clubs" to accommodate this trend in Jamaican entertainment that carries the huge benefits of soothing the soul.

This week a packed house roared and sighed as host Oliver Samuels and the hilarious line-up of comedic guests, kept tears in almost everyone’s eyes. Having laughed themselves to this state, the crowd exuded only pleasure and satisfaction.

Proven to be therapeutic, not only in cases of broken hearts but for literally enhancing brain function and reducing stress, laughter and a good sense of humour has been credited in studies to protect against heart attacks.

So off to the regular staging of "Backyard Krackup" we ought to go for our weekly dose of 'laugh till we pop up.' This week, Oliver's guests were a riotous crew that included: Pretty Boy Floyd, Elva, Johnny from Lime Tree Lane, Apache and Sarge. One comedian got timed out; he was the night's only casualty.
