Morgan Heritage feed culture and roots to world youth

By: Joseph Cunningham

MORGAN_HERITAGE .jpgMorgan Heritage is arguably the only current Reggae outfit that transmits what many serious lovers of the genre calls the authentic "Roots and Culture" in a very effective way to the international audience. We have heard stories of the group pulling crowds in excess of 30,000 people at live shows on the European continent; shows that were promoted with the group as its headline act.

From its genesis, the father of them all, Delroy Morgan had music in his blood and toured the world. He then imparted the gift to his children through intensive vocal and instrument training. To date the recordings speak for themselves. Since its inception in 1990, the group has released big hits such as "Let's Make Up," "Don't Haffi Dread," "Down By the River" and "Reggae Bring Back Life," just to name a few.

Morgan Heritage has released many albums; probably the most memorable of them has been "Full Circle." However, there is another album in the works, titled, "Mission in Progress". Lead singer, Gramps said, "The objective behind the upcoming production is to save the music. We want to do this by introducing the young generations to roots music." He added that the album would feature 15 tracks, and will be released under the groups own Gedion Music Label.

"The messages to be imparted will highlight real life situations affecting the international society. Children are having children, teachers are afraid to reprimand students. The social breakdown has to be addressed," Gramps emphasized. Don Corleone and Steven McGregor are guest producers on the album. The group will return from its promotional album tour in Europe next week.

They are in a class by themselves. The Full Circle Album should be in every music lovers collection.
