Moo Moo is Dancehall Queen 2007

Alan Lewin

2007QueenSeatedMoMo1.jpgJapaneseDancer1.jpg

Canadian contestant, Maude Francato who goes by the stage name Moo Moo was crown International Dance hall Queen 2007 at the finals held at the Montego Bay Pier One Complex on July 28, 2007. Angered by the judges' decisions many patrons displayed their disapproval by throwing bottles and other objects on stage.

The judges unrelentingly held fast to their decisions. This was Moo Moo's third year in a row, entering this contest. In winning the Red Label Wine sponsored International Dancehall Queen competition Francato collects $300,000 Jamaican Dollars plus the championship trophy. First Runner Up was Kadian Reid, she collects $200,000 while second runner up Lady Lynn collects $150,000.

The competition has outgrown the venue which saw over 10,000 patrons in attendance. Girls from Big Head Clothing also took part in a fashion show segment. Promoter and founder of the Dancehall Queen competition, Brian "Big Head" Martin, outdid himself again with the staging of another successful contest.

i think it was unfair kadian reid the second place winner should get the title. But i really think that the judges had pity on moo moo and gave her the crown seeing that she entered three times. However when yuh good yuh good and kadian must not worry because you are the winner in your own right.

Posted by: checo on July 31, 2007 01:02 PM

montigonian for life but my peeps you let me down with the unintelligent behavior com'on we realy should appreciate talent all the girls are winners in there own right they all went on stage all night to entertain us and we should respect them

Posted by: checo on July 31, 2007 01:16 PM

why do we invite dancers from all over the world to show their talent vying for a crown if they shouldn't win it? the interlectual level is too poor Moo Moo big up you saw you tried last year and failed but it showed that you did your homework knew the JAMACIAN moves studied the songs and regardless what the "dunces" might do or say you should still hold your trophy and head high stay strong

Posted by: jus me on July 31, 2007 05:21 PM

Look, it should ave nuting to do with black or white, cause black ppl are all over the world doing their thing too ya know. Deh best dancers dont always win and that's how it go, especialy in dancehall.
Last year i feel nicky should ave won but mobay ah mobay and that's how it stay.
If jamaicans cyant take it they should stop the international contest, but then they would still want to keep the crown in mobay. Ya cyant win.

Posted by: dancehallqueen on July 31, 2007 05:42 PM

A dancehall queen is a Jamaican PERIOD.
EVERYONE IS TRYING TO TAKE AWAY OUR CULTURE, GWEH AND FIND YOU'RE OWN.

Posted by: Jamerican Girl on July 31, 2007 06:06 PM

This shit is terrible. Everything black ppl come up with white ppl always want to try and dominate. She should have known that this is Jamaica and we dont play the white imperialistic b.s., so I dont feel sorry for her getting bottles thrown at her. If I was there I probably would have gone up on the stage and let her have it the worst way. She then said "I've been trying to do this for three years and this cant stop my joy" oh really den why yu pink skin dutty self run offa di stage wen the ppl dem start trow bokkle pon yu?

Posted by: sweetest_lil_thing_1 on July 31, 2007 07:24 PM

I am glad that you all can see it now ... this dancehall queen this is for the caribbean people nowhite or japanese I am tryingtobe racist or ant thing of that sort ... but listen even with the new moves ... I strongly believe that it should be a Yardie or someone form the islands to make a DVD with the moves and not a Japanese ...what do you see that they have that they are will to teach ...we should stand up for each other ..Stacy where you at or any of the other girls ...come put that DVd together....sweetest

Queen Momo is back in Quebec City " Vive la
reine Momo " the first International white queen
in the dancehall story. Queen Momo proves the power of love. She proves than the soul has no color, no country....Only exceptionals vibes can
change the world and create the best for each human on the planet.
Thanks a lot to Jamaican people for the love they
give to the white queen....

I didn't see it this year, but can't wait for the DVD. I know most of the girls from Mobay, but honestly I never seen Kadien dance before and I never even heard of her but Kadien seems to have alot of cousins here. LOL.
I've been hearing about MoMo for years and she won several DHQ titles in the USA and Canada and she placed second at JA's 2003/2004 DHQ so she MUST be good(right???).
As a Black West Indian American I think DHQ in JA should be kept INTERNATIONAL. It will bring more money and business into your country and that means more jobs and programs that will support JA dance culture. So think before you guys go off on your racist rants.
Next year BigHead should promote the thing differently so people KNOW its international meaning, ALL THE world's DHQs and amateur dancers from around the world coming together to compete. Maybe he should hold the thing in Las Vegas instead of MoBay, since too many talent already come out of MoBay. Vegas would neutral territory and the playing field would be leveled for anyone regardless of race or origin.

its so funny to see that if youre not obese in the dancehall world youre a crackhead, go ahead jamaicans go stuff your face with KKKFC

Always the same thing.people a talking about things they dont know.i know momo and i know dat she really know about the political-historical past of jamaica and she also issue from a french-colonial place.im from quebec too and my ancestors, well known as native american indians have been killed by millions by brittish, americans and french troops.hold on!
you really think white people are all big pigs wearing clean suits and swimming inna ocean of gold??the few jamaicans who live in quebec city are welcomein our places..we not spittin a dem when they show dat they love and wanted to be involved in our culture.theres poverty and violence in my country too.our social problems are coming from the same source.im white,im not gonna kill myself because of what they did in the past.they dont want us to be united..hate between races is an easy way to maintain people far from the great knowledge..momo have interviews whit jamaican, canadian and european medias she will never diss jamaicans.i was in mobay last week at the contest, she did all the latest moves on the most loved mobay deejays dance tchunes..you say she looked like a crackhead..it wont stop a raging bull girl..

big up Kadian, big up to all contestants
respect to our cultures and our differences
congrats momo and thanks to you to make poeple know about dance here in canada.

live in peace

Dont hate Jeanna, cause you sound so ignorant and silly....... you just mad cause you cant be like us, our culture and music has taken ova the world
and deep down yu wish that you could relate to being a Jamaican BUT YU CANT HOE!!!

Stop the hate and get a life!!!!!!
And yu sound hungry.

Posted by: Inasha on August 6, 2007 03:41 PM

Wow wow wow...
Definitely, dis was a shock when i saw dat this "Moo Moo" had won the competition!!I don't care bout her being black white or japanese or not being jamaicain(it's an international contest...rite?)BUT HELL THE GIRL CAN'T DANCE!!!
I don't know what happened to the judges(i guess many people are wondering too)but this is an awful disaster!!she coulda learn all voicemail's video and dweet on stage her way to move iz just wack she's got no style no attitude and looks like a skeleton just popped out its coffin!!dancehall iz not just about the moves it about a way to move your body. Besides, this was no mere dancehall competition!!everybody was waiting to see the new international dancehall queen and guess who it is...Noooo!!Must be a nightmare!!especially after dancehall queens Angel and Nikki...I can understand why u jamaican people were really mad(however this was no reason for throwing bottles at her LOL.
I suggest that we all erase this year's competition from our minds and wait for tha net one!!
Inasha from the french west indies

Hitman or Hateman.....

If Queen Momo is shit, who are you ?
Who are those 5 judges at the Mobay's competition ?
Who are those Jamaicans in Canada who crowned
Queen Momo, in Toronto, Canadian dancehall queen ?
Who are, in Detroit City, those Jamaican who appreciate Queen Momo enough to make her judges
the competition last June ?
Who are those 10,000 humans feeling her passion
for your vibes ?
Who are her Jamaican contact in U.K. ?

All those are shit ?

Turn your eyes inside of you...Who do you see ?
A lover of human race ?
An unhappy "clone" ?
A sad "clown" ?

"What's wrong with you, my brother, puss and dogs they get together, what's wrong with loving one
another ? (Bob Marley)

Odeshia and Marrian :
may be if your cousin put a little love in her
heart for different people
may be if she doesn't push badly the dancers
may be if she can understand that's not enough to live in MoBay to win the crown
may be then, she'll win.....
Does she want be a Mobay's dancer or Internatiol
one ?
Never forget this : the second can always be the first....ask to Queen Momo....
Beleive me, I'm proud of my girl....I'm proud of
each human proud of himself.....

Posted by: What the HELL? on August 11, 2007 07:43 AM

As a Jamaican I am very disturbed by the comments some Jamaicans are making here.

I guess every country will always have their ignoramuses who are uneducated and jamaica is NO different. Jamaica has a high illiteracy rate and some of those illiterates are here spewing their hate.

As for the idiot who says that if fade wizard is Momo's cousin then dem mussi white and they muss stop talking de yardie way al I have to say is you need to go back to school for the following reasons.

1) Bob marley is half white and as a result he will have WHITE RELATIVES on his father's side.

2) There are white Jamaicans as well. Not every Jamaican is BLACK.

Seriously, only stupid people who lead empty lives care about another person's race.

Too much hate in Jamaica. I thought it was just for one another(hence the highest murder rate in the world) but I can see it is for anything called a human being!!!!

I cry for my country. It seems nothing can save our beautiful country from being overrun by ignorant assholes!

Posted by: kacahuet on August 11, 2007 11:29 AM

dis contest specify the best dancer and i'm agree with the great majority Momo don't ve the level to be crown DHqueen 2007!! she 'is a bad dancer but she is STAYER! it's not the first year she represent canada in jamaica and it's for this reason only she was reward.

i'm a white gyal from france and i love reggae dancehall culture!!
everybody deserve respect coz it's not a story of color skin.
if you re black brown or white stay openmind it's the most important!!

eh oui kacahuet ce concours a élu LA best dancer, et la grande majorité de la foule ainsi que les concurrentes sont en accord pour dire que momo le méritais donc stp ne parle pas de ce que tu ne connais pas.

Posted by: kacahuet on August 20, 2007 07:55 PM

"new dance" and "blazay972" your reply is simply a personal attack in fact you don't bring foward this topic!! it's a pity...

Posted by: blazay972 on August 21, 2007 11:39 AM

This is interesting!
Only person I agree with so far....Sunshine
She is right..Mobay was railing for MoMo until she won.
How sad
I ws there upfront and true she was the first girl to get the crowd going.

From the begining I thought she could win but I thought the judges would be politically correct and give it to the local girl who wine her ass the most.

To: What the hell?
I agree with you that there are many White Jamaicans and that are motto is out of one people. I also know that it was an International Dancehall contest and not Jamaican Dancehall contest. But at the same time I think the people of Jamaica are upset with the fact that is was a White woman not a Jamaican White woman that took home the prize. Our music and our culture is apart of what makes us Jamaican and it's what we tend to perserve as a Jamaican people and try to hang on to that's why we try and keep it our own and not conform to other cultures. We may not have the same views as other cultures but that's what makes us unique and interesting for everyone else. We understand who we are and don't define how we live by anyone eles's standards (except for the Jamaicans who feel as if they have now arrived).
We give love to our White Jamaicans and our Indian, Syrian plus other races that are born and raised in Jamaica. But when outside influences come in and try to mimick us or be like us, that's when some of us tend to get upset.
I dont' condone violence and I never will so the bottle throwing incident was not called for. There are other ways to show your dislikes.

As for people writing on here about how ignorant some people are. I don't agree with that either. People have different views and opionions and the fact that they want to express it and how they express it has nothing to do with ignorance. Everyone has ignorance in them because no one is without fault. We are all percieved differently and that's what makes us unique. I hate to see when people who are not from our culture view us from the outside because they have yet to know who we are, they are from the outside looking in trying to either analyze us or understand us.
Please don't.
And for those who are Jamaicans and decide to attack other Jamaicans for there statements and actions just remember where you are coming from and remember you are apart of this culture and you use parts of this culture in your every day life. So try not to knock it to hard.

I am sorry but do any of you idiots - who maintain the view that it should be won by a Jamaican - actually think that a Jamaican will always win a contest entered by dozens of women from all over the world.

BIG HEAD - seem you have to rename the competition
Jamaican Dance Hall Queen - or maybe we should just call it LOCAL CRAP.

We read all comments... :o(
To our opinion, Momo has no rythm. Although she worked hard to learn all the moves, she can't follow the bit.
But I RESPECT her for trying until she got dat bloody crown!

to Whatever!

You should be then adressing yourself to the whole city of Montego Bay because if they hadent screamed for her she woudent have won.

This whole thing about trying until you get it is just rubbish since a lot of the girls this year where there for their third and even fourth time, and they didint leave with no crown or prizes.

No one has ever won Jamaicas dancehall queen by pity, and i dont think that will ever happen.

To think that, is not to know Jamaicans or Jamaican culture at all, you first have to be loved by the crowd to win, and thats a fact.

They All Sock Because I the Dancehall Queen in Canada of 2007 AND I THEY BEST OF THE BEST

I observed MoMo and much to my surprise...SHE CANNOT DANCE AT ALL. However, as far as the commecial aspects for the promoters to gain more international attention and money it was a fantastic business move only. MoMo performances were stiff and strained and were not natural and smooth. She is good for a parody for dancehall queen's and entertainer to make you laugh at her antics to dance like a true DHQ. She is a comedian dancer to make people fill with laughter.

Cara, it is not because something does not represent what is or is not a TRUE dancehall queen for you that it is a parody !!

LIKE I ALWAYS SAYS, JAMAICANS OR A REAL SELL OUT, JAPANEES COMES TO JAMAICA AN WIN DANCE HALL CONTEST, PLEASE NOTE JAMAICAN COULD NOT WIN IN JAPAN. DO THE MATHS, IN FOREIGN WHITE PEOPLE OR LIGTHER SKIN PEOPLE ARE NOBODY BUT IN JAMAICA OR IN OTHER BLACK COUNTRIES THEY ALL LOOK UP ON AS THE SUPREM ONE. THE ARE NORMAL IN THERE HOME LAND.
STOP THE SELLING OUT

Like someone said, Dancehall is an art. I would pay to watch it. It's a beautiful and natural body rhythm, it's hard to learn if you ain't got it and to me works better when it looks freestyle and un-forced. The last thing I want to see is someone who's tried their darndest to learn it despite not having the vibe and flow, ugh. But that's just me. Why people can't just booo instead of geting all violent though!
