Dancehall/reggae artistes giving back to the kids of Jamaica

Photo by: Carlington Wilmot

mackadiamond_baby_jamaicavybzkarteljuniorreid.jpgThere are currently one hundred and thirty three children of all ages residing at the Maxfield Park Childrens Home in Kingston, Jamaica. The School is funded by charitable donations and subvention from the Government. These monies are hardly enough. The school itself sits on 6 1/2 acres of land which is divided into three (3) sections:

Jelliffe House - serves as a nursery for children from birth to six(6) years:
Backhouse - serves as a place of safety and home for boys and girls six(6) years and over;
God's House Four - contained Units with each accommodating sixteen (16) children.

Maxfield Park Children's Home is the largest and the oldest children's home in Jamaica, and serves as a place of safety for many children who have been abandoned or otherwise made homeless.

Sections of the home are badly in need of repair including the building which is used as a school for children ages three(3) to six(6) years attending the Basic School & Special Education school on the premises.

zjrosesexygirls.jpgMaxfield's Children are in need of many things such as: Medication, School Supplies, Cribs, Clothing and Monies. Thanks to Companies like, Megamart (Waterloo Rd) and Sangsters Book Store it is now relatively easy for the public to help. Prescription coupons are now available in denominations of $500 and $1000 for purchase at Megamart. Sangsters Book Store has also stepped up to the plate and are allowing patrons to purchase books that are desperately needed for the children from a list supplied by the home.

Samantha Rose of Zip 103FM has started a program called "Step Up" which is set up to rally the support for the school. So far she has gotten pledges of support from Macka Diamond, Vybz Kartel, Ras Myrdack, Tarrus Riley, Junior Reid and the Owner and management of Weekendz on Constant Spring Rd. More help is needed so we ask everyone to please Step Up and help the children of Jamaica.

I believe this is the best thing this reggae & dancehall artist could do. I believe that by them doing this they can show the public that they aren't all about sex, money, and violence.....which most of them talk about in there songs. I personally don't care what people say in their songs because if I don't like it I just won't listen to it I won't make a big fuss as others do today in society. Anyways I am happy there is a home for these children and I hope in the future there will be more on the island.

My daughter just recently came back from a philanthropist mission in one of Kingston, Jamaica most notorious Ghettos. The children who live there are affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty and homelessness. I was astonish to hear that these children do not go to school, instead they work in the dump site searching for food to eat. I feel the time is long over due for all Jamaicans home and aboard to do some kind of humanitarian work for the children of our country.

May JAH continue to bless you sister Rose in all your endeavours.

Truly

ZJ ROSE NUFF RESPECT these are the artists I want to support and align myself with. I too as little as I have will contribute to these children. A lot of time you will find those who are the most giving and loving came from humble or similar backgrounds. This should motivate all of us to step up to the plate in what ever way we have been blessed.

In putting together a proposal for sponsorship, I would like to use portions of your article entitled " Dancehall/reggae artistes giving back to the kids of Jamaica" as a part of the said proposal.

I was in Jamaica June 2008 and visited the children home with my boyfried. My boyfriend have a brother who's been living there since birth. I noted that all the staff there do look after the children. I was impressed with the way they cared for each child as their own. We need more of this in Jamiaca, i pray that God will continue to bless all the staff there who dedicate so much time and effort looking after these children.

Big shout to Mr Lawrence one of the manager there.

I will endeavour to send a little donation from time to time.
