Joining rap royalty T.I. and 50 Cent as performers are R&B crooner Ne-Yo, sultry superstar Ciara, and gospel great Yolanda Adams. The roster of A-list celebrities handing out trophies includes Hollywood's biggest names, including Academy Award nominees Terrence Howars, actor/comedian Katt Williams, Dirty-South hip-hop heavyweight, Big Boi of Outkast and five-time world champion, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. among others. BET is the only award show that recognizes the achievements of music artists, entertainers and athletes in 14 categories; this year's nods for best-in-class performances go to Beyonce with six nominations, followed by Jay-Z, Ciara, Jennifer Hudson, Akon and Gnarls Barkley among others.

Hosted by the inimitable and lovely Mo'Nique, back to host the telecast for an unprecedented third time, this year's show is being billed as "The Main Event" and it's no wonder. While viewers wait to see just how Mo'Nique will bring it, one thing's certain: you know she's going to knock it out of the ring!

Diana Ross, one of the most successful female vocalists of all time, will receive BET's coveted Lifetime Achievement Award for her distinguished career and contributions to popular music for more than four decades. Additionally, Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle will be honoured with BET's Humanitarian Award for his efforts to bring awareness to the dire situation in Darfur, as well as the African AIDS epidemic.

The BET AWARDS is cable's undisputed #1 awards show, with all the elements to make it pound-for-pound television's biggest night in entertainment.

I'm not too thrilled with the BET award this year. Reason being is that they dont even have a category for Reggae. How the hell some of the members of BET are of West Indian descent and not even one nomination?. All, or most of these rappers are always hyping themselves with the collaborations of Reggae infusion on their tracks/albums.

I am glad you guys are addressing this. I was watching THE BET awards a couple nights ago and was surprised that there is no reggae category. I am surprised by this... I think its purposely done. I think the powers that be in Hip Hop don't want to recognize that Dancehall and Reggae is a force to be reckoned with. Plus it is weird that though UROY and BIG Youth were the first Rappers that is never mentioned in their history. It is almost as if they want to deny that! For a genre of music to be ignored that is embraced all over the world yet ignored by its so-called brothers and sisters right in our back yard gives you reason to pause...This is just my 2 cents. Well thank God for the Reggae Academy. It will grow into a prestigious international organization.
