Hospitalised following stroke, Barry G doing well
Barrington "Barry G" Gordon, described also as "The Godfather" of Jamaican airwaves, is currently convalescing well after suffering a stroke in late April. The ace radio personality, who was a force to be reckoned with throughout the eighties and beyond was reportedly on his way to Florida from Jamaica, when startling symptoms left him shaken and in need of physical assistance and subsequent hospitalisation.
The 50 year old, who was fine tuning plans for a return to radio is said to be most concerned about the stroke’s affect on his commanding speech and diction, qualities he's honed since those 1975 JBC training days. With enunciation, or lack of it being Barry G's primary critique of radio hosts in this millennium, it is no surprise that a speedy recovery in this area is paramount to him, as he undergoes intensive therapy.

Amazing the medical team assigned to his care with unusual and rapid progress, Barry G still strives to achieve his aim of making a comeback on the air. Once he has conquered the lack of fluency left to him by the untimely stroke, Jamaicans and global fans will once again be able to listen out for a radio show host who will deliver much more than the popular juggling and mixing of the hottest rhythms, currently perpetuated by many Jamaican disc jocks.
Starting off at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), Barry G went from radio producer to host of his own show, 'Turntable Time' after 3 years. This success led to a 6 hour Saturday afternoon programme called 'Boogie Down'. Thirteen years later, Barry G went over to Radio Jamaica (RJR), taking his high ratings with him only to return to JBC 2 years later. After co-founding Power 106, he went on to Hot 102 until 2001. Freelancing in the international syndicated radio arena has kept Barry G busy and his return to regular Jamaican radio is highly anticipated by fans.
Barry G once spoke of the important role show hosts play in imparting pertinent information to radio audiences and he is no doubt spending this time gearing up to do just that.

I have known you for over 20 years and what a blessing you are to me. I thank God for a true friend-BARRY GORDON. Stay strong and positive and get well soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...
Barry G is truly a legend in Caribbean radio and his name is synonymous with international fame especially his clashes with famed UK Jock David Rodigan.
Let's hope that King Barry G will get back on his feet soon so that he will continue to inspire Caribbean on air personalities like myself.
Stay strong my Radio Brother!!

Met you 10 years ago in Spanish Town with my sister Sharon(Polly). I lived in Linstead at the time but spoke to you at times on my sisters landline in Willodene. I migrated shortly after to the UK in 1997 and we lost contact. Saw you at a show in London but didnt get a chance to speak to you.
I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune and hope you have a speedy recovery.
