That awards must have been SOLD or the judge or judges just don't have a clue... SEAN PAUL is WACK... someone gave me his CD and I gave it away... simple GARBAGE... he just does not compare with BUJU, SIZZLA, DAMION MARLEY, TANYA STEPHENS, BEENIE MANT etc... his lyrics are mediocre at best, yes he does sell a lot of records because of good marketing not talent... Vanilla ICE and Milli Vanilli also sold a lot of records...

I really don't know how he won all these awards, because he was in Antigua on Sunday night, and that was the most BORING performance I have ever seen... I was all hyped for this show and they should re-name him Sleep Paul.. He was so WACK!!!!

Shelly,
I am not HATIN. I am ctitiquing. There is a difference. Just because someone sells a lot of records does not mean that they are talented. Vanilla Ice was at one time the No. 1 Rap Artist and Milli Vanilli was once the number one pop group.
Just because an artist is popular does not mean that he is necessarily talented. Bob Marley did not sell a lot of records when he was alive. Shaggy has sold more records than Sizzla. Does that mean that Shaggy is more talented?
Britney Spears sold more records than Whitney Houston, does it mean that Britney Spears is more talented?
Unfortunatley talent and record sales don't have anythign to do with each other?
I don't know Sean Paul personally, I am just a fan of Reggae and dancehall music, and Shaggy may have one or two good songs on an album but thats it. And he is not a a good lyricist... Its music, its not personal...

YEA SEAN PAUL SHOW DEM HOW TO DO IT. HATERS STAND BACK haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
CONGRATS SEAN PAUL,ARTIST
CONGRATS ED ROBINSON, ARTIST, PRODUCER,
CONGRATS MUTA,POET
CONGRATS JEROME HAMILTON - HEADLINE ENT.
CONGRATS CHEVELL
CONGRATS LINK UP & IRIE JAM
CONGRATS TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUNG, PRODUCED, RECORDED, BOOKED, PROMOTED, PLAYED GOOD MUSIC, MUSIC WITH SUBSTANCE THAT IS WHAT WE NEED.
As Jamaican's ask yourself where is our music now and for the future what legacy we are leaving for our kids. Today's music does it have substance? Bring back substance. Can I play a Fish...15 years from now.... I know I can still play a Bob, Peter, Jacob, Dennis... Question yrself.

Shelly/Doctor:
Remember that timing also has to do with it. Remember Sean been trying for years to bus. Those same songs are some of his earlier work what he used to sing but at that time the industry was not ready for them. The riddims were tweaked and he bus.
Of course lyrics is important too. Remember too that it is not only record sales artist should depend on it is PUBLISHING (radio ads, tv ads, movies etc). Look at Inner Circle their publishing for one song alone have dem comfortable. Bad Boys play every night on Cable on Cops and Cops is shown sometimes 7-10 times a night on how many stations do the math OK.
Another is being marketable at that time certain artist might not have sold because the look was not right for that time JUST LIKE A MODEL. Unno nah want nuh ugly duckling pon an album facing you right.... but guess wha make up work wonders so if di music work and the looks work $$$$$$$$$$$. Ok not all of us bless with looks but clothes, hairstyles can help that is why it is important to have a stylist or the artist have to be really unique. I can call some dam ugly people who have made it because dey ugliness paid off (unique) and dey could sing.
Look at who is buying the records u made reference to Britney and Whitney.... White people buy records we black people tape, burn and borrow and bootleg the 4k out of our music REGGAE. U do not see bootleg in LA u want the gangs and the artist gunmen come after ur ass - I guess not. So why we have to bootleg REGGAE.

GAIL I AGREE 99% BUT THIS IS MY THEORY ALSO 'WHITE PEOPLE' WHO BUYS RECORDS (REGGAE) WOULD SUPPORT A REGGAE ARTISTE WHO'S WORK SOUNDS MORE LIKE THEIR MUSIC. correct me if am wrong

Boy oh Boy, you Jamaicans are something else, all we do is tear down each other talent or not he has finally gotten his break and the foreign market has embraced him so why can't you all just say congratulation and it's great to see that sean paul is spreading violence and war in the industry and b**ching up women and having bad vibes with other entertainers, it's really good that reguardless of all the negatives that has faced jamaica someone can bring some positive. talent or not...........

I went to this show last year and it did not reflect the hyped up name, IMO the show was poorly organized and it seems as if some of the awardees received their awards just because....
I did not go this year because of my previous experience, but I don't imagine it was much different eventhough it was at the Opollo. At least they stepped up the venue this time.

Goodazgirl... I went last year too at the Appollo and like all things it takes time to get well organized and the support needed. Trust me when you see the Grammys, BET Awards, Vibes etc... all these awards have their glitches etc but you do not see them on TV so no matter how many years these awards have been running they do have all sorts of ........
You made reference to the awardees last year but it is who the people voted for u cannot blame the organizers or accounting firm who count the votes. That is why it is important for us as a people sponsor and support our own awards. You have to give Martin his props because he has been doing this for years now and it is only now he is beginning to get the support of the Caribbean community, as well as artists showing up. This year Yvette Clarke, Congresswoman and her mother Una, Congressman Charles Randall and the newly elected senator from Brooklyn he is Haitian they attended so this award show is coming to come like all things it takes time.
Again as I said Caribbean people need to support their own and keep their eyes on the prize (Reggae Music) because any minute now the Jews/Germans/and
white Americans will take it away see dem dancehall fools (Beenie & Bounty) fighting while dem dey see Bobby Konders and David Rodigan slip in Collie Budz. Look at Paris Hilton, The Hulks Daughter, Gwen Stefanie all a dem amongst many more I can name all of them have a reggae track on their albums - WHAT DOES THAT SAY. If you all cannot read between the lines JAMAICA may as well give up reggae since skinning out, fighting, name calling over pussy is more important. ENOUGH SAID
T. BELL before I go White people love the Roots & Culture, they love the ska, they love lovers rock and some dancehall but mostly the clean lyrics. If you went to Toots & the Maytals white folks for days and Toots is ska etc. When the artist who opened for Toots which was (ED ROBINSON) opened they loved him too. Ed did his own songs which they loved and sang too and not forgetting the Knocking On Heavens Door which he redid in his own taste....I overheard a White A&R saying oh that is the guy who re-made Bob Dylans song Bob now performs that version on stage whenever he is in concert because he prefers that version. Now answer that Jamaica - unno see we have talented people. If Bob Dyland nuh like him own version but like our son of the soil version wha dat seh? and in reggae at dat - inna mean REGGAE BIG. Then Robinson paid tribute to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jacob Miller and Whitey's went on bad in the crowd.

Sean Paul has (some) talent. However we would be foolish to ignore the fact that he gets by (ALOT) based on his look and color. I personally had someone bet me that he was PUERTO RICAN.The world is always fascinated with anyone who does reggae that doesn't look typically Jamaican. Examples, Ace of Base and Snow. In the entertainment world very little is about TALENT. It's all about marketing and image. Who are the most succesful reggae artistes now. Sean Paul, JR Gong and Shaggy. See any similarities?

As for u "GAIL", I am not from Antigua!!!
I went there for the Sean Paul show because i was in the region and I was hyped to see him... Me seh he WACK, full of shit LIVE!!! He is only for the studio he is not for LIVE entertainment.
I am just saying unlike Beenie, Elephant and the others who are ENTERTAINERS, Sean Paul is WACK on stage.
I am a fan of Sean Paul, but do you think that because I like his music I am not going say how he is LIVE.. Then u mad!!! He sells records because he appeals to a more international crowd. and that a fact!!
He na sign for caribbean people, he just don't relate to them anymore, he is on a different scale at this point, simple!!

Doctor,
I agree with you 100%. The musicians with the TALENT should get the awards. Good music is GOOD music and it lasts. What does hair style, clothes etc., have to do with music? Good music lasts an eternity!! Sometimes Bob wore the same Jeans and shirt for several shows... becuase what was most important to him is music... fads like Sean Paul come and go. But GREAT music lasts forever.
Bob Marley is still selling music, not because he has the right hair style, "look", stylist or make up artist but because he made GREAT music and to date he is still Number 1 in Reggae...(without a video exploiting half naked women)
So all you REAL artists out there... Keep making GREAT music... the money and the awards will come... maybe not today, maybe not tommorrow but it will eventually come...
Don't sell out your culture for houses, cars, women and clothes... Be true to yourself and STAY BLACK!
Respect to real Artists like Sizzla, Buju, Turbulence, and Beres who dont sell OUT!

Seeing as how you've compared Sean Paul to Sizzla, Buju Banton, and Damian Marley.....
Wouldn't it just be easier to say that you prefer traditional artists, or people that swear? (but I know Tanya Stephens doesn't, and I haven't heard Beenie Man do that yet)
