I am quite sure Einstein is talented and I am quite sure that there are more positive things to sing about than guns and killing. I am sorry I may be in the minority here but where is your ingenuity Einstein? When Jamaica is the third most murderous country in the world and the newest sensation in dancehall is glamorizing violence and even more alarming people actually think that is an expression of talent that is quite incredible. I am sick of seeing my beautiful brothers and sisters being victims of violence so I would strongly encourage Einstein and those budding young talents in Jamaica and elsewhere to please use their discretion and conscience when making music. You are extremely powerful you are often times more influential than parents. I know most of you like to say I am not a role model but in all reality you are and you have a responsibility to your community and your country and your fans to not in anyway aid in violence regardless if it is just words. Words are extremely powerful and we really need to raise the bar. We need to really take music to a higher level so that our people can be lifted. This really sickens me. Young artists need to know that there are plenty of people out here who are starving for some positivity, there is a market for positive and uplifting music. Think outside of the box I know if there is not a demand for this type of music the artist would not feel that this is their only approach to creating music. Fans of Dancehall and music in general have a responsibility too, if you don't beleive in violence but you support violence in music you are just as guilty. Music is more than just a catchy beat take a minute and listen to the words if you do you would realize most of this so called talented artists aren't really saying much more than a 2 year old child. Music can be positive, uplifting, inspiring and still sound good, for example let's look at Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Shaggy, Baby Cham Freddy McGregor, Bob Marley , Damian Marley, Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley, Kymani Marley , Luciano, Garnet Silk Junior Reed, Morgan Heritage, Sizzla, Capleton, Assasin etc. I could go on for days there are alot of artist whose lyrics are positive but often times we do not support them as much as we do these other artist who are either singing about ending another man's life or degrading women or other meaningless subjects.
Women in dancehall also need to understand that there is more to sing about than material gain, and your "goodies". It saddens me that an aritist like Tanya Stevens who I think is extremely talented sings about so many important issues but sadly the songs that get the most airplay are usually those of a very sexual nature. That tells me that the collective mindset in Jamaica and the world ,is Sex,Money and violence are priority and if we do not change this reality then our babies have no future. Using music as a vehicle to inspire and uplift people does not mean you are compromising your street credibility. We as Jamaicans need to really elevate our expectations of our Dancehall artist and Reggae Artists in general. Until we raise the bar of expectation this filth that is being fed that we continue to accept and support will not change and the cycle continues. My last point is the world is watching and listening and if we celebrate a culture of violence and disrespect for life. How do you think inhabitants of Jamaica are perceived abroad? Peace love and positivity please..

It's not that I am agreeing with Einstein lyrics, but I don't think we should blame it on the artiste for his actions. This has been trying to get the big buss from long time him sing a whole heap of girl tunes and no body recognized those. But I guess get frustrated one day feeling like him kill someone because has been trying so long and can't get the break, then him just decided fi take out his anger on a piece of paper long with some flowing inc from his pen. Then again why who decide fi jump on his case, why uhno never cuss Mavado about his lyrics, he not only sings that he kill people but describe to you how he commits his crimes, and how cut baby throat, him commit crime and let people eat fish and bread and have a nice time. You guy need fi attack people like those and leave the youth mek him eat a food. I can bet him get a lot of dubplates to do from this gun song and never yet get the chance fi do a dubplate from his girl catalog

Good Shotta, I think you are responding to my comment since I am the only one who is in opposition to the content of Einstein's lyrics. If you read and understood my comments you would have seen that this was not an attack solely on Einstein but on those who are in the entertainment industry at large who indulge in mindless music and I am also saying as consumers as long as we are supporting and accepting these extremely violent expressions as art and entertainment then we are just as guilty. I can only speak on the present I am reading his lyrical content at this very moment therefore I am expressing my opinion regarding his lyrics but rest assure if it were any other artists I would have the same opinion. This may be just entertainment to most of you however I am a parent and I am extremely concerned about the influence these so called talented artists can one day have on the minds of the very impressionable and susceptible youth. I can't afford the luxury of turning a blind eye to what is happening to black men in Jamaica and world over. I am not able to look at the surface of this man's lyrics and see it as just that. We must demand more from artist and the best way to do that is to not support people if they keep talking about the very things that are destroying and poisoning our youths and community. This is a very sensative subject for me so I apologize in advance for being so passionate about the subject. There was a dj in the States who made reference to women in a college basketball team as "nappy headed hoes," which resulted in him ultimately loosing his job after people united and said enough is enough. The scenario is different but people defended this man saying well that is how black men refer to black women in music videos and they are always using the N word when referring to each other. So the bottom line is people mirror the perception you have of yourself. If young black men have such a pessimistic perception of their lives and a complete lack of respect for themselves and others that look like them how do you think people view these young men and us collectively. This is why police brutality is the way it is because the violence and disrespect we project on each other make other people think and feel it is ok to treat us in the same manner so all I am saying is when you are making music and you have such a powerful medium to reach young mind please exercise some responsibility and use your frigging conscience. Next time please read and try to understand my point before getting all defensive - I am not knocking Einsteins hustle but with all his talent it is not going to hurt him or us if there was some positiviey in his lyrics.

Peta gay it dun gone bad - I know a lot of top class persons who fight against dancehall music during the week, them same one like you complain about the violence in the music, but the on weekends when them go a them same giving the music gun salutes --- aah aah aah. Try answer mi Peta gay let me si what you coming with because act like seh you intelligent more any body else on this comments forum.

Rise di machine mi seh - it's words - words are wind - action is the thing.

All the fools that are shouting "rise di machine", i hope when di machine rise and aim towards you you feel the same way. Punks and wanna be thugs!!

Posted by: petagaye28 on April 15, 2007 09:39 PM

Good Shotta,
I do not think I am anymore intelligent than anyone else but obviously you do. I made a conscious decision years ago to not buy rap music because of the abundance of violence and disrespect that was in the lyrical content. I am not against any dancehall artist that is incorportating some positivity in their lyrics but if all you can sing about is what you have, killing somebody or treating woman as a vehicle of pleasure then to hell with you and your mindless music. I have made a conscious decision to not lend a ounce of support monetary or otherwise to any artist in any genre of music that is making hate music. I am not blaming anyone we all have a responsibility as far as respecting ourselves and others and encouraging a spirit of unity. And as a highly paid entertainer they too have a responsibilty and alot of these dudes like to shout I am not a role model let the parent raise their kids and that may be so but teenagers are not great at rationalizing their thoughts. They see someone they admire and respect say or do something and they think that is ok to do and say also . This is the last I have to say regarding this subject because reading these comments just makes me see how hopeless Jamaica is as far as people realizing that change is possible but we have to make different choices in order to attain different outcomes. The power for a better Jamaica is not in the hands of the Prime Minister, House of Parliament etc only the average citizen uniting on the common ground that we deserve more, and we can have more than we have. Only we collectively have the power to truly liberate and uplift our selves and it all begins with transforming our thinking. That seems like an impossible thought because people are so comfortable in their filth so you just gotta live and let live. As far your comment regarding my intelligence, I don't need you or anyone else in this forum to validate me or my intelligence. You obviously feel intimidated by my intellect and that is why you are making a point of me thinking I am more intelligent than anyone else I don't but you obviously do so thanks for the compliment. Good shotta, you said alot but you still didn't say sh#t... I conclude in the words of my girl Lauryn Hill "Come on baby light my fire, Everything you say is so tired Music is suppose to inspire so how comes we aint getting no higher? peace and love family ....

Pete gay I am glad you brought up the issue of the politician because them support the music 100% only when it's election time dem same one tek the songs them and use them as political anthem for the meetings --- some of them even have them own dubplate.

See deh now Einstein sing a gun people start recognise seh him have talent and now every producers a run him down. Why the business so mess up -- Why the business have to force the guy to do songs like these to be recognised. Petagaye keep on keep on... I refuse to support these empty, mysoginistic crime laden lyrics. The case can always be argued for economic survival, politician supported,etc... but it all still comes out garbage to me. Garbage weather it be hip hop, reggae or whatever genre of music. I school my young son about them almost everyday. I chose not to have cable, but when we did and I would see him watching certain things such as the music video. I would discuss what he was watching. I gave him food for thought. What is the song about? If it's about love why are the women almost naked and gyrating on a car, the ground or the singer? want to open up his mind to know that you can entertain with out denigrating females and praising the gun and killing. The comment made by General Joe about black people trying to keep down other black people doesn't even wash. Where have all this trend gotten us...nowhere. If an artist have something of substance to bring to the table he will stand the test of time. Some of these artist end up going out like the trash lyrics they write.

Posted by: petagaye28 on April 17, 2007 08:18 AM

Good Shotta, I still can't and don't comprehend your point but thanks for trying anyway. The responses in here is overwhelming a reflection of how young people in JA and perhaps the world over think and that is cool because until people want to uplift and mobilize themselves all efforts made by others is a waste of time. We are the last people to recognize our brightest and most talented stars it doesn't surprise me that Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Beres Hammond, and the countless others are so much more appreciated and loved abroad than they are in JA. Until our music start sounding differently and we lend those artists our support then mentally we are stagnant. I will not not waste my money supporting anyone who attains the success and fame from poor people and then turns around and sing about how many cars, money and women he has and how much people he will kill, hell to the NO!!! I will always support people who bring attention to issues affecting the poor and disadvantaged and encourage unity no one is perfect but as long as some positivity is being incorporated in your music then I can support that. Cham, Kymani Marley -- All the Marleys, Junior Reid,Assasin, Morgan Heritage,Luciano, and countless others much love and keep on doing your thing. To all the other's who tried to respond with humour and disrespect it is all good because it shows just how mentally challenged you are..... Dahlea, finally someone with some common sense thanks sister, .....peace and love family.

Seriously, nuff a unnu funny. Yeah, yeah, his lyrics are violent and can even be argued to glamorize/promote violence and those sort of things, but really, we must be realistic when we approach issues like these. Some of you make a very valid point... "lyrics are just that…lyrics, words, and nothing more," but on the flip side, I can understand where those of you who have young children are coming from when you speak of the influence of these lyrics on them at an impressionable age. But it stops there. It is not the responsibility of entertainers, the media, the community, to raise, govern and protect your children. Yes, everything affects them, but as a parent, YOU need to be the one to keep them from certain things that will ALWAYS exist…we don't live in a bubble. Raise them to know and appreciate the value of life, to respect women, to do ALL the things that entertainment is notorious for degrading.

A famous writer once said that it is art the mimic's life, and not the other way around. These people sing controversial lyrics that are a reality in someone's life, whether to a small group or for a large populous, it is real. Raise your child to be strong enough to not be influenced by just words and simply by "the knowledge" of the existence of very negative things. Don't chastise the artist who sings of a negative reality, instead put your energy into helping your child understand that these are just words and they should have enough character to not be influenced by simply words. Sensibility should be introduced to them at an early age, and if you feel that they have not developed enough to separate their reality from what exists in entertainment, you keep them from certain things until the time is appropriate. But understand that YOU will have the most significant input into how they develop as individuals...not music.

Why are some of you especially GOOD SHOTTA, so into arguing with PETAGAYE over her opinion. 1. EVERYBODY, even us in Jamaica have the right to FREEDOM of speech. PETGAYE Said hers, YOU said yours, now shut the f**k up.

2.For the other ONE who said it is just Business adn just words, and she should cash in, REMEMBER, not everyone can see things as just words, especially, THE IMPRESSIONABLE young ones who can hardly find a way out of a miserable life and are DESPERATE to make things better....DESPERATION CAN LEAD EVEN THE MOST INTELLIGENT AND UNDERSTANDING PERSON DOWN THE WRONG PATH.

As for the CASHING IN PART, no one needs to cash in on VIOLENCE; and VIOLENCE IS NO TREND; AS FOR CASH: everybody needs it to live, but IT IS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER THAT CAN WIPE YOUR ASS: I DONT THINK IF YOU HAD MILLIONS OF DOLLARS YOU WOULD LET SOMEONE RISE DI MACHINE ON YOUR MOTHER OR CHILDREN BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM EVERY SINGLE CENT:

3 MUNGA HON.

Posted by: Shelly on April 17, 2007 02:28 PM

Seems Mr. Einstein just got frustrated with the music he was doing. He wasn't getting the 'bus' he so long desired and so he did what any other desperate artiste would do, he sold his soul to the devil and is now giving praise to the devil.

Words are very powerful, and those of us who are more sophisticated and can dismiss Mr. Einstein as a 'one hit' artist, have nothing to fear. It is the young impressionable men, who we are concerned about. They cannot afford a good lawyer, if they were to get in gun trouble, and worse, their families cannot even a afford a decent funeral if worst come to worst!

Posted by: Da Man on April 17, 2007 07:14 PM

Anne-Marie, a wha you a try?
Nex ting, in jamaica words are not just words. Words get you killed. People its time we took our heads out of the sand. It is not a coincidence that the crime level rises with the crime lyrics.Be wise and realize that we do ourselves no good when we glorify violence. Sizzla neva buss wid violent lyrics.
Peace

Posted by: Inasha on April 17, 2007 10:14 PM

I will start by saying that i have nuttin against Einstein, but first ting yeah we can wonder why yardflex ah publish such violent lyricks just wid di purpose that we could sing it more easily!second ting, di real problem wid this kinda songz is dat well-balanced or pacific people can sing it just for fun, like i do!!i confess dat when i'm very angry i just listen to dis kinda wicked lyricks and i feel relief, this is just a way to push away the frustrations. But some people who take the lyrics seriously, some who possess arms, can really LIVE the lyrics and it encourages them to more violence. Especially in a country like jamaica which faces daily so many crimes, i don't think this kinda sondz is very welcome...

Posted by: Empress T on April 18, 2007 08:20 AM

I'm saying...just try to be a good parent and keep certain things from your child that you disagree with. It is your responsibility to parent them and protect them. You can't change the whole world and you're less likely to effect change in the entire entertainment industry than you are in the life of your own child. Stop wasting time bashing people and pay attention to what's going on with those you are concerned for. You will always disagree with something...always shake your head in disgust or outrage with something…that is a reality. You can't control that, but you can control how these negative influences impact your youth and what they will take from them. If you are lucky and if you invest your time and energy in the right places, perhaps they will grow to disdain the same things you speak out against because I guarantee you, it will still exist when they are adults.

Posted by: Shelly on April 18, 2007 01:09 PM

I understand that the world is not perfect, but those who know better do better. We have artiste who actually live what they sing, and that is why a lot of rappers have lost their 'street cred' because they can no longer sing about issues affecting the hood from the confines of their 'gated' communities. If Mr. Einstein really lived what he is singing about, then I applaud him. If in fact, he is just spewing venom to get a hit song, then shame on him and the folks who are supporting him!!
