Vybz Kartel signs to Topline Entertainment
 Deejay Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi di Techa has inked a booking deal with the Topline Entertainment agency as the deejay seeks to consolidate his business affairs as he breaks from The Alliance.
"I admit that in the past I did not have a proper business management structure in terms of my booking, and that may have caused some confusion in creating the perception that I am a no-show artiste as some people have said. But there was also a lot of propaganda being circulated by certain parties who did not want me to succeed. I have cut all ties with those people and I am working hard to change that perception of me," Kartel told YardFlex.com.
Last year, the deejay got married and made a concerted attempt to change his image by cutting his hair and limiting his association with . However, controversy has continued to dog him especially with all the acrimony surrounding his break with the Bounty Killer-led Alliance .
"I am looking forward to a productive 2007 with Topline. This is the first booking contract that I have put my signature on, so this represents a major step forward for me, and I will do my part to make this partnership a success," Kartel, whose socially conscious 'Emergency' hit was one of the biggest songs of 2005, said.
This year, he has followed up with hits such as 'Tick Tock' and 'Pon Di Battle Field' on the Battle Field Riddim produced by Skatta. He has also been working with producer Stephen McGregor and one of those songs, 'Imagine' is getting a lot of airplay on FM radio.
Denise Smith, head of Topline Entertainment Agency, sees the move as a positive one for her company, which also handles bookings for TO-ISIS, Delly Ranx, Heather Cummings and the Uprising band.
"Vybz Kartel approached Topline Entertainment because he feels that his new image will fit in with the profile of the company and with my reputation in the music business as a honest, hardworking person. I know that I will do an excellent job in organising his bookings both here and overseas because he is one of the most talented artistes I have ever had the pleasure to meet," Ms. Smith said
"I met with him and found him to be an intelligent, charming young man who knows what he wants and where he wants to go. Whatever happened in the past is the past, and entertainment is about hard work and dedication, and we are going to arrange things in a proper structure. We have already been getting requests for shows in Canada, Europe and North America. He is presently dealing with his work permit to facilitate his travel to these countries," she said.
Addi di Techa will be appearing on the Guinness Sting 2006 concert which will be held at Jamworld in Portmore.

Like it or not Kartel and Assassin are poised to be the next big DJ out of Jamaica. Junior Gong, Shaggy, Cham, Sean Paul - none of them followed the prominent Bounty/Capleton/Sizzla image and have been successful. Bounty Killa makes his money from dubplates so hats off to him for that. But his persona cannot take him beyound 1996 Fugelalala hipopera. With so much war and talk of war worldwide plus increase in crime, artistes cannot sell guntalk anymore. So only the creative ones will survive.
