Kartel name change - "My new name is Addi the Techa"

 Controversial deejay Adidjah Palmer a.k.a Vybz Kartel has decided to change his deejay name to Addi the Techa in a bid to gain some artistic and financial freedom from the European-based independent record label and music publisher Greensleeves Records.
"My new name is Addi the Techa. I have been in negotiations with the executives at Greensleeves with regards to the promotion of my material with good videos, and a proper marketing strategy. But I have not got a suitable response, so I am liberating myself from them, that's why I am changing my name, they can keep the Vybz Kartel name," a frustrated deejay told YardFlex.com
He just completed the second project, JMT, as part of his three-album deal with Greensleeves Records. But the way things look right now, it is quite possible there will not be a third. Sources close t the deejay believe that the strategy behind the name change seems to be a desire to reinvent himself, redevelop his style and escape the shackles of the Greensleeves album deal.
The deejay's move is somewhat similar to the action taken by the singer Prince in 1994 when during negotiations regarding the release of Prince's album 'The Gold Experience', a battle between Warner Bros. and Prince kicked off. They were duking it out over the financial and control of Prince's material. There was also a much-publicized incident where Prince appeared in public only with the word "SLAVE" written on his cheek.
One doesn't think that Vybz Kartel will go to such extremes to get his message across but he did have a few choice expletives which we will not publish here to express his frustration..
"Just look out for the new album from Addi the Techa. It ah go mad," he said.
Several unsuccessful attempts were made to contact Sharon Scott, the press officer of Greensleeves Records via phone. The phone calls were not returned.
"There is no story....no comment," said one gentleman who answered the phone on our umpteenth attempt to get a comment from the record label.
In March, the Zest Music Group announced that it had agreed to acquire the entire share capital of Greensleeves Records for £3.25m in cash and shares.

kartel i admire ur talent there r few artists out there that have what u possess. wish u the best in ur career, if someone or a company is trying to hold u back let them go no matter what the cost. but i don't like ur new name though it got no flavor to it, i don't think it matches u at all. but its all love from me to u. i will still be among ur number one fans, continue to keep it real.

To be real your a good entertainer, and have really grown from I first heard you, but as a business man, that is a good move towards your independence, but if you decide to go into the recording labeling business you might find yourself doing the same thing to another artist, that is how they make their money, its all about money making and you should ready all the fine prints before signing a contract, and dont argue with the one who offered the contract, its the one who signed it should be made responsible.
