Top dancehall artistes to spread positive messages at RE High School Tour

DancehallArtiste_sean_Paul_Beenie_man.jpgThe RE High School tour has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the high school radar. With two successive staging last year, the tour is set to kick off on October 11 and will last for six weeks.

PJ Wright, Promotions Manager for RE High School tour explained that the objective of the school tour is to enhance the message of abstinence from sex. 'The main objective is to utilize entertainers who the teenagers see as role models, to try and send a positive message of abstinence and/or safe sex', said Mr. Wright. He further added 'We usually visit the schools after making prior arrangements with the school authorities and the artistes perform and talk to the students about the importance of not having sex at an early age. For those who are having sex, we tell them to practice safe sex practices. Its basically entertainment mixed with education'.

For this leg of the High School Tour, entertainers such as Jovi Rockwell, Busy Signal, Alaine, Red Rat, Voice Mail, TOK, Vegas, Lefside and Esco, Bling Dawg, Kip Rich, Cezar, Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn, Black-er and new deejay on the rise Terro 3000, will entertain and spread the message and objectives of the terrains of the tour. Said Mr. Wright, 'The artistes that we choose to work with on the high school tour are those who have hit songs or songs that the high school students are familiar with. They have to alter their songs and display clean lyrics to assist with the getting the message out there'.

RE High School tour is being promoted by 360 Productions. The tour is endorsed by the Ministry of Health and is in association with Jamaica Aids Support. 'The tour is really for the students at the high schools. The Ministry of Health has told us that it's the best way to get the message of abstinence and safe sex to that demographic of students', explained Mr. Wright.

The high school tour will this time around visit six schools in the Kingston Metropolitan area. 'This is what usually happens on the tour. We are usually at each school for about an hour and a half, outside of normal school hours. We have performances from the students at the school, a presentation from a representative of Jamaica Aids Support (a young lady living with HIV) and then the artistes will perform. The artistes speak to the students and sign autographs. We try to make the students feel special and we give them promotional items provided by the sponsors. Every student will leave the tour with something to keep', Mr. Wright added.

Major sponsor for this leg of the RE High School tour is Coca Cola. Media partners are the Jamaica Observer, RETV, TVJ and Fame FM. Other sponsors include Digicel, Burger King, Ministry of Health, and the Jamaica Aids Support.

great for our youth. Vegas can teach the kids bout the "hot f**k, Leftside can let Dr. Evil teach them bout his nasty views on threesomes etc., Blacker can teach the young girls how to "Bun" their man, and Wayne Marshall who's whole career is based on his love of weed can sing to the kids about his love of Mary Juana. And we honestly ask ourselves why our country is trouble. RE is a disgrace, they care bout selling advertising not our children.

this is really positive, it goes to show that Jamaica's government are trying to reach the youths and have a interest in them.

aimme, you are so negative. what have you ever done to give back to your community? RE is playing its part in spreading the positive message, and look at what you are doing here, spreading negative vibes!!! you should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Posted by: Wade Cameron on October 2, 2006 11:42 PM

Mi like the cause of what these artist are doing. Spreading the good word with there gifts and talent. Which is always a good thing! Now if they can have benefits which will benefit the ghetto youths so they can stop the viloence and destructions which are playing a big part in their communities. Anyways always appericate the cause, and keep on using the postiveness of your gits and spread it to the younger generation. Respect.

Hey Papoose, that is not the real Papoose. Why are u so damn angry?

Posted by: fx on October 3, 2006 06:15 AM

Yo. leave aimmee. she has some valid poins. r u all so blinded by the media, that yu nah see the truth, where r these artistes and RE when the cameras r not on, and the film isnt rolling? They are in the fancy cars, not giving a sh**t bout ghetto people. theres is not one artist on that tour known for consious muzik. the truth is they want to keep the youth down and blind dem with Bling. Big up aimmee exposing truth people dont want to hear. Gyptian, I Wayne, Luciano, give the youth some real jamaican culture, instead of some hip hop wannabees.

Yeh gimme some "Blue Steel" papoose, you mek my point exactly, this is the typical attitude of us Jamaicans, instead of dealing with conflict with any type of intelligent argument, we bring violence into the picture. U must of been a product of last years RE tour.

Posted by: mandi on October 3, 2006 09:51 AM

Aimme that was funny.... but really the RE School Tour is very successful and the schoolers love it.
I really don't think that Vegas will be singing Hot Wuk to the school kids, he will be doing songs like 'Do You Know' and 'Need Me'. Wayne Marshal has done a lot of positive songs also.

Your comments was funny still and your still have a right to voice your opinion.

When companies or individuals at Fame fm & Retv are doing events such as these,it should be lauded.Promoting safe sex is detimental in todays society where teenagers are engaged in folly "inna di school bus" as exclaimed by Vybz Kartel in one of his songs.

Hey,

Everyone has a point. Please do not label all these entertainers based on what they sing, they are completely different people off stage. I have been to some of the schools last year and what you see on Re is actually more they have one on one sessions with the students and all. what you see on Re is just the entertainment part of it. Yes it wouild have been nice to see a cultural act but hey! Aimme love what you say but give them a chance, actually i would like to invite you on one of the tours i wil be going again this year.send me an email if you are interested.

Posted by: Tweetykay on October 6, 2006 08:17 PM

I could'nt agree with you more ammie that is the solid truth. For those who are against your point it goes to show thy no nothing about music. If they did no anything about the music, the they would know that the artist choosen to do this tour is the wrong crowd. They need conscious rtist like Gypian, Lucino, Morgan Heritage etc.

this is no disrespect for the dancehall djs,but

they can't teach a thing to the youth dem.

Posted by: tapiwa on October 8, 2006 01:41 AM

F***k de b*****t shit.

vegas,wayne marshal,leftside & esco,

bling dawg, and de mosta dem artists dem

deh can't teach ah ting to di youth dem.

artists like gyption, luciano, bushman, and a lot

more possitive and youth caring artists no dem

b***t dancehall artists.

Check out now sizzla, capleton and turbulance are

I dont see the point of cursing if you goin put ******** in it. Every artiste can release a positive vibe and a positive message. Dont be dissin, why yall cant talk bout Tami and Cezar {DO THEY HAVE ANY SLACK SONGS?} Any artiste can do the job, they just need to know what they are about.

Can i watch the video for Edith Dalton James school

most dance-hall songs, lyrics and artistes are seen as a negative impact to todays youth because of what this type of music encourages. Most artistes (dance-hall) encourage way too much sex, scandal, shooting, killing and all that other stuff in their videos, concerts et....lol. However still much luv is given to those artistes. I am a much luved fan of many popular dance-hall artistes but there would be a big difference between me and the next guy listening to it. Most youth nowadays tend to fall helpless to the influence of peers and will even fall by the way side to most negative aspects portrayed by these songs, this is where the problem occurs eg. if mary sees joanna dressing like a slut in a video getting lots of attention from their male counterparts mary would want to try it to...or if john saw garvin dealing with a sqabble by picking up a gun and shooting the living day lights out og tommy then john would want to deal with his problems in a similar fashion. It would be to my opinion that those dance-hall artistes would simply try to cuss a little less here and there or to be mindful of those negative things they portray against women and gays...especially the gays.

neways that was fun and meaningful hope you've learned something...
