Buju Banton show canceled again - "it was the right thing to do"

The persecution of Buju Banton continues. Yardflex.com has learned that a Hollywood club has canceled a performance by Buju Banton which was scheduled for October 2.

According to a story written by Geoff Boucher, a Times staff writer,
"Adam Manacker, general manager of the Highland nightclub and
restaurant, said Thursday that e-mail complaints and concerned callers in recent days had prompted him to research Banton's past and call off the Oct. 2 show." Refunds are available through the vendor where the tickets were purchased, the article said.

"We felt it was the right thing to do after doing some research on the matter," Manacker was quoted as saying.

Last week, a performance by Buju Banton in the town of Bloomington, Indiana was canceled after gay rights activities launched a campaign against the rastafarian deejay.

This is Jamie Koz aka DJ White Lightning. Head promoter of Jamacan Gold. Thank you all for your concern. The Buju show has been officially rescheduled for the same date Tuesday, Oct 3rd at a new venue the Century Club. The owners there have done the proper research on Buju Banton. Realizing that Buju has already apologized for his actions back in 1992 when the incident was first addressed, they have agreed to let the show go on... They also realize that Buju's music no longer reflects any sort of anti-gay lyrics. His music is spiritual and positive. And that is the vibe that we present at Jamaican Gold. A place for people of all creeds to get together in unity and enjoy spiritual uplifting music. For the record, Jamaican Gold does not, in any way, condone violence against any race or person for religious beliefs, personal preferences or sexual orientation.

Sincerely,
Jamie Koz

much respect to gargamel and i am sorry to know that the big man is getting a fight but this a lesson for young and upcoming artist to know that they should leave the whole gay issue alone. Put more stress on the young girls that are being raped, and other social issues that can uplift and bring awareness to whats going on.

I am not too sorry for u Buju. (WHY) because u need to stop this homophobic lyrics in ur music. I of to wonder and ponder what gay people ave done U so bad mek U hate them so much. because i ave lots and lots of gay friends around the globe, and to me, i think gay people is the most loving and caring people in the world. gay people is so nice to talk to and to be around. anyhow on a serious note. I definately know that it is not right yes for same sex intercourse. but on the other hand no man is perfect in this world, and thats the reason why u find thief, homosexuals and murderer's etc. you need to leave these people alone and let them live their life's, just as much as how u r living ur life peacefully without anyone is untaganoising or fitiqueing u. here is a very good point of all: god made each and everyone of us in this world and god knows what we would do or be in the world. so he knows that gay people will exist in it. buju thank god that u were one of them who he created in his image to be straigt. and am sure that he did not sent u into di world to condemn or created any crime and violence on anybody lifestyle. with ur homophobic lyrics such as: Boom Bye Bye inna ba**yboy head and so on. I do not hate u Buju but u need to stop it, and reorder ur life in the music industry. so that people in the world will look up to u much more, and see that u ave absolutely changed. then u will entitle to have shows all over the globe without any fitiqueness. thanks for reading this interesting message and have urself a productive day.

I'm glad that his show have been rescheduled. I think he's has suffered too long. It's not fair that these damn ba..y man keep on staging protest. They wanna express their human rights, others like buju should be free to express theirs too.

This is totally ridiculious. Buju is a humman being like everybody else and he has the rights to his own opinions. He should be treated just as any other artist. This thing has gone too far and this is another demonstration on how special services people are watching jamaican artist becuase of what they stand far. Buju just keep doing the music because we are supports of your music and we don't care what people want to think about you.

THERE IS NO END TO THE TO THE WAR BETWEEN WE AND FAGOTS. THEIR LIFESTYLE IS AGAINTS LIFE AND HUMANITY ITSELF. WE SHOULD BE FREE TO EXPRESS THIS. HOWEVER WE SHOULD NOT INCITE VIOLENCE TO ANY GROUP OF PEOPLE. ANYWAY, GAYS RUN THIS WORLD. THEY SEEM TO HAVE SO MUCH PULL, POWER AND AUTHORITY. THIS THEY HAVE BEEN USING AGAINST REGGAE MUSIC. WHY NOT ATTACK AND BOYCOTT THE MOVIES, RAP MUSIC, AND SITCOMS TOO?

Posted by: candy on September 23, 2006 01:17 PM

Much respect to Buju... I always thought that everyone had a right to express their options, but I guess right now in the world some groups of people have more rights.. Anyway my friend you keep doing what you are doing, you have made peace with jah the most high, and your music reflects it. Stay strong my brother and know that not everyone is against you.

Posted by: lisa on September 23, 2006 03:41 PM

Buju, I'm sorry that at this high point in your career the past is revisiting you.But to be honest,Buju if you had left the gay-talk when doing your tours outside Jamaica, all this could be prevented. You see, every man to their own,you as an artiste who love music ,and continues to make such profound impact on people's life especially for some years now, dont need this at this point.Nothing is wrong with what is said but, know where to take such things since you are not only living for your self ,remember your family and your fellow Jamaican fans. You are much bigger and mature than this.Look what happen to "Shabba" which resulted in the down fall in his career up until now,why cant we learn from the things we are to learn from.
When u deh yard bun dem backside, but outside keep u mouth.Love and respect Buju.

Posted by: david on September 23, 2006 08:12 PM

To all the detractors of buju the question you should all really ask is why don't the gay population leave Buju alone. The fact of the matter is the are not just picking on Buju and other Dancehall artits they are picking on Jamaica on a whole. The gay population cannot pick on the eastern half of the world where there way of life means death to them. So Buju made comments he hasn't acted on them as other people have esp. eastern half of the world. Don't forget Buju's cancellation of his concert in a country where freedom of expression is suppose to be the foundation of there costitution and their president does not support same sex marriages. GAY COMMUNITY LEAVE THE MAN ALONE IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT WHAT YOU ARE DOING GO ADDRESS MUCH MORE SENSITIVE ISSUE SUCH AS LOBBYING FOR SAME SEX MARRIAGE IN THE US

Posted by: Shanique on September 23, 2006 09:32 PM

Buju from the beginning i did not appreciated the way how u lick out and try to condemn gay people who r living in our society today. U make these people life unhappy and living in fear of this homophobic lyrics everyday. I just don't think its fair for them, everyone have the right to made their own sex choice in this world or land of living. not saying it is right, but just leave it alone, leave everything to god the created of all man. you don't ave to take it up on ur head and i think personally it just should not be a burden nor a problem on ur shoulder. because these people were'nt troubling u. seet deh now because u trouble who did not trouble u in the first place. now they are stoping u from eating a food internationally. so this should be a fine lesson for u buju. take it good and proper mi luv, nuh listen to nuh bad influence from nuh body yuh hear.

tek care of urself and i wish u all the best for the future in ur music career ok.

I'm gay Buju, serves u right, yuh neva no seh a gay run di world. but i guess u know by now nuh tru. david please saved ur breath, gay people or the most lovin and carin people in the world, suh if him neva trouble the gay population with his violence homophobic lyrics in the first place, he wouldn't be getting a fight now from the gay population over the globe. so don't start what u cannot finished. because right now he's a loser. and for u haters out there for gay people, buju ave belief and said what he has to said about us gay people already, and for ever more he will always feel that way about us no matter what. so we definate do not need no f**king apology from him nor u. not even in a million years.

It is extremely disappointing and very upsetting that gays, or any one group of persons should take it upon themselves to affect or control the income of another because they hold a particular view. Buju Banton has expressed his opinion. It is somewhat radical, granted, but he has not extended it to affect how or where they work and earn a living. As stated in the article, doing so is equal to stating that anyone who listens to reggae is a ganja smoker, or anyone who listens to dancehall is a gay-basher, or anyone who listens to electronic music is a pill-head. The plain fact of the matter is that there is not a problem in Jamaica with GAY beatings or murders. Beatings and murders do occur, yes, but not exclusively to gays. In fact - one can even see if we watch the media, that the worst acts against gays (heinous and grisly murders) are by OTHER GAYS! If gays in foreign countries are afraid of dancehall music inciting violence in their OWN societies, then they need to look into, and address the state of mind OF THEIR SOCIETY, and why their own people would would react like this to the words of someone who is not a part of it. Perhaps it's because they have been barred from expressing any negative opinion of gays, that they overreact when they find someone who will!

The global society needs to stop demonizing Jamaica and reggae/dancehall as the root of all anti-gay sentiment. If we really had that kind of power, we wouldn't waste it on gays, we would be preventing nations from bombing each other and flying planes into buildings over differences in opinion.

Buju, anywhe yu deh... big up yuself and continue to fly the flag of positivity, of Jamaican music and of Jamaica SKY HIGH!

Jack Mandora, mi nuh choose NONE!

GHANA AND ANDRE I AGREE WITH YALL THAT PHANTOM PERSON CAN'T PROVE S**T ABOUT BUJU! THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE ON HIM IS THAT ONE TUNE "BOOM BYE BYE". BUJU HAS SINCE MOVED ON! WHAT ABOUT, "OVER ME" "BABY YOU KNOW" ETC...WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE TO SAY DON'T SAY NOTHING AT ALL! I DON'T PROMOTE GAYS AND I WANT SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! BUJU HAS HIS OWN MIND FRAME SO IF THE MAN DON'T PROMOTE OR DON'T LIKE GAYS, F**K IT HE DON'T LIKE THEM!! WHY BASH HIM FOR THAT, LEAVE IT FOR WHEN HE MEET GOD ON JUDGEMENT DAY! GOD DON'T LIKE GAYS, HE BURNED DOWN SODOM & GOMORAH WHAT YALL WANNA DO TO GOD NOW, BOYCOTT ON GOD...WE GOTTA OPEN OUR EYES AND REALIZE THIS S**T HAS GOTTEN TO FAR! IT WAS ONE SONG OVER CENTURIES AGO! WHY THE GAYS HAVE SO MUCH POWER IS WHAT I WANNA KNOW! WHAT ABOUT THE STRAIGHT PEOPLE, IF WE BOYCOTT AGAINST THEM WHAT WILL HAPPEN THEN?...WE MUST UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS SO IF THE MAN DON'T LIKE GAYS LEAVE HIM ALONE! IF A GAY MAN MAKE A SONG I WONDER HOW MANY WOULD BUY THAT RECORD! I WILL BOYCOTT THAT SONG JUST LIKE THEY BOYCOTT BUJU! FOCUS ON OTHER THINGS LIKE EVERYONE HAS STATED...FOCUS ON BOMBINGS, RAPIST, PEOPLE WHO ARE HARMING...BUJU HASN'T HARM A GAY MAN SINCE THAT SONG HAS BEEN PLAYED SO PLEASE JUST GIVE THE MAN A BREAK...

AND BUJU AM YA NUMBER ONE FAN AND I DON'T CARE WHAT THEM A SAY...U A NUMBER ONE REGGAE ARTIST FOR LIFE!

So, Manny, are you saying that gays should leave Banton alone because he is no longer homophobic, having not performed the song for, ooh, at least five months, or because even God agrees with Banton, and gays should just shut the hell up?

I wonder if Banton apologised for the song, or did what everyone does nowadays, and said he was sorry IF anyone was offended?
