Didn't they almost have it all? Whitney dumps Bobby

Bobby_and_Whitney.jpgThey said it wouldn't last and finally, they were right. Whitney Houston has filed for divorce from her hubby of 14 years, Roxbury bad boy Bobby Brown.

The addled, faded songbird who stood by her man through arrests, jail time, numerous cases of reported infidelity, career setbacks, tabloid scandals and public embarrassments, has had enough, Houston’s rep Nancy Seltzer confirmed.

Seltzer declined to reveal where or when Houston filed the divorce papers and said the singer had no statement to make.

"I can just confirm that she has filed for divorce," she told the AP.

In a possibly related development, word is Brown will be back in Norfolk Probate Court later this month to again answer charges that he is not paying child support for his two kids in Stoughton, LaPrincia and Bobby Brown Jr.

"He isn't with her so the bills aren't getting paid," said Someone Who Knows. "We're all waiting to see what happens."

The signs aren't encouraging. According to sources, Houston has pulled the financial plug on Bobby and his relatives. We hear his mother is about to be evicted from her Atlanta home and that Carol Brown has been calling relatives in Roxbury asking them to take her in.

As for Brown's two children with ex S.O., Kim Ward, he has been in court numerous times over the years - and was even thrown in jail - for failing to keep up his child-support payments. In most cases, Houston bailed him out and ponied up the past-due dough, sources say. With her checkbook now out of the picture, Brown could be facing serious problems on that front.

The ex-New Edition singer has been living in L.A. for the past couple of months at the home of a relative while trying to revive his singing career. Houston is also in L.A. - but not with Brown.

A cleaned-up-looking Whitney was spotted with producer Clive Davis at the 15th Annual Ella Awards in Beverly Hills the other night. Davis has been trying help the Grammy winner make a comeback - with little success. Reportedly the singer's fondness for crack has ruined her voice.

Meanwhile, Brown has been spotted stepping out with former paramour Karrine Steffans, the hip-hop hottie who spilled the beans on her liaisons with Usher, Diddy, Shaquille O'Neal, Ja Rule and Bobby in a tell-all tome "Confessions of a Video Vixen."

"It's a really tricky situation," Steffans told the Daily News late last month. "There's a wife and children involved. I don't want to wreck any marriages. But if a marriage is already wrecked, that's not my fault."

The couple were married in 1992 and have a 13-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina together. Brown's reality TV show, "Being Bobby Brown," focusing on his whacked-out family and marriage lasted one season on Bravo.
