Caribbean Artists Make Cut For MTV VMA'S

Those making the cut in the list announced yesterday are Jamaican-born Sean Paul, Barbados' Rihanna, Puerto Rico's Daddy Yankee and Haiti's Wyclef Jean.

Jean along with Columbian hottie Shakira, topped with seven nominations for the infectious single, 'Hips Don't Lie.' The duo was nominated in the Video of the Year category, as well as for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video, Best Art Direction In A Video, Best Choreography In A Video and the Viewer's Choice award.

Paul received two nominations for his 'Temperature,' in the Best Dance Video and Best Choreography In A Video categories while Rihanna was nominated in the Best New Artist in a Video category as well as for the Viewer's Choice award for her 'S.O.S.'

Paul faces tough competition from the likes of Christina Aguilera, Madonna, the Pussycat Dolls featuring Snoop Dogg, Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland and of course Jean and Shakira. While Rihanna is going up against the likes of not just Jean and Shakira but Kelly Clarkson, Chris Brown and James Blunt among others.
