Yard Samaritans - Boomshack Entertainment Back To School Fundraiser

carol.jpgBoomshack Entertainment is doing big things to help Jamaican schoolkids. The entertainment-driven charitable organization was started by 'Linton' along with his cousins, 'Callie' and 'Kavin' who hosted a treat at the Burnt Savannah sports complex in St. Elizabeth in December 2002, and they return each December to repeat this act of love.

"Every December, we go back to the same same place...Linton started this because of his love for music and being the kind person that he his, he wanted to do something for the children so he starting buying things for the children with his own money and as long as the kids were happy that's all that matters to him," Carol, one of the principals of Butterfli Wings Foundation, told YardFlex.Com.

The events started off using sounds like Bass Odyssey, Love Symbol, and selector 'Panta' from Black Kat and still use them till this day and just always add a special guest sound each year on. We also have artistes perform at these annual events. I came on board after going to Jamaica with Linton for one of these events and realized that the things we gave to them the year before were kept in such good condition, it made me realize that the things we take for granted in the USA. It made me want to do more, so that's where we decided to form a foundation, and get sponsors for these "Coming Home" day-and-night events.

However, they continued to bankroll the foundation from their own pockets, and it wasn't until the year 2005 that they were able to secure sponsors, Digicel, Moodies Records, Tropical Blue, Wata and RJR.

"We could not do this without them, at these events, we give to the children all kinds of school supplies and more. Kids from all over the island attend the day event, and the adults get lots of give away household appliances," Carol said.

The foundation then uses the proceeds to buy schools supplies to ship down to Jamaica in time for the upcoming school year, and to assist schools with special individual needs.

The next big entertainment event for the foundation is a celebrity fashion show called 'Fashion Fabulousity' on July 23rd at Carib New Yorkb featuring Ghost and Ed Robinson.Music by DJ T, Sir Conqueror and Triad.
