Deejay Jahzeal 'Mr. Peppa' Walters was robbed of US $1,500, two Razr phones, and a television set on Saturday morning by a gang of robbers who invaded his rented home on Roehampton Drive off Mannings Hill road in Upper St. Andrew.
"A group of four men, one with a gun, the other with knives broke into the deejay's home at about 4 a.m. and ask, deejay, 'where the money yu bring back from foreign de?' They put him to lie down on his face, and proceeded to rob him. There is a door that leads to an adjoining room where the landlord and his family lives, and the men went in on them as well and put them to lie down on their faces, and robbed them as well. They took away television sets, money and jewelery and escaped in the landlord's car," Mark Pinnock, chief executive officer of Natural Bridge Records and manager of Mr. Peppa, told YardFlex.Com.
The car was later found abandoned on Waltham Park road, and its four tyres and radio were missing. The deejay had only returned to Jamaica a few hours earlier where he'd gone to participate in the Irie Jam Celebrity Soccer match in New York.
"When the men were leaving, they said, 'deejay ah the work we de pon, ah just how the system set up'," Pinnock said. "Mr. Peppa is a bit shaken up, but he sounds upbeat about the whole thing, he can always work and buy back valuables, what is important is that he was not harmed during the robbery."
The Constant Spring police, who are investigating, believe that the robbers may be the perpetrators behind a string of armed robberies committed in the area recently. Two weeks ago, deejay Spice was also robbed by an armed man who broke into her Mannings Hill Road apartment while she was sleeping, and robbed her of a large sum of cash and other valuables.
