Tastee Talent Contest for May 6
The next round of the Tastee Talent contest auditions is set for Saturday, May 6, at the Tastee Outdoor theatre in Cross Roads, starting at 9:00 am.
The Tastee Talent contest has the outstanding feature of being the only local talent contest that is opened to talents of all ages and in all the performing arts, be it singing, deejaying, dancing, acting, performing poetry, playing an instrument or even doing a magic act.
This year marks the 27th anniversary of the home-grown talent contest (the country's longest-running), which has provided the launching pad for many who have made it big in the entertainment industry. Tastee winners Beenie Man and King Yellowman even made it to the Grammy awards. Yellowman was the first DJ to be nominated for the popular music industry's most recognised honour.
This year is also a special year for Tastee, as the company marks its 40th anniversary. Contestants can look forward to special Tastee anniversary prizes and the contest is opening the doors for a special category of talents as a prize is being offered for the Best solo artiste. This prize will see the best singer being selected out of the contest come December.
The winner of the prize (and the winner does not have to be in the top 4 ), will get an all expense paid trip to London to compete in the UK Unsigned contest. If he or she emerges winner in the UK-Unsigned, he/she will then go on to compete in the World Unsigned contest out of which the winner will grab a share of the £10,000.00 award, as well as performance tours throughout the UK, Europe and Africa.
The winner will also have the opportnuity to generate income through the promotion afforded on radio and television as well as Internet download links through which income will be generated.
Some 25 contestants are being sought after for the May 6 Tastee talent contest auditions. Entry forms for the contest are now available at all 22- Tastee outlets in Kingston, St Catherine, Trelawny, St James, Clarendon and Manchester.
At the local end, over $1 million in cash and prizes can be won at the semi-finals and grand-final. At the semi-final stage, prizes include $60,000 cash for 1st place, $45,000 for 2nd place, $35,000 for 3rd place and $30,000 for 4th place.
