Belize shows Wayne Wonder Love and Affection

WayneWonder.jpgBased on the reception he received in Belize, you would think that he was an old friend, rather than on his first visit to Belize recently.

Wayne Wonder and fellow veteran reggae artiste Beenie Man performed to a packed house at the Belize City Centre in Belize City last Saturday. Following brief, but vibes building appearances by Gringo re-christened Don Mafia and large on talent Kirk Davis, Ruff Kutt struck up the introduction that heralded the arrival of Wayne Wonder.

Dressed in a white jacket and blue jeans, Wayne stepped on stage with searing vocals. Moving effortlessly from his classic hits such as Saddest Day and Movie Star, to favourites No Letting Go, Bounce Along and Hold Me Now, to fresh cuts I Still Believe and Love and Affection, Wayne grabbed up the crowd and never let them go.

Flanked by his provocatively dressed dancers and witty DJ Baby Face turned Lion King, Wayne’s forty minute set left the crowd clamouring for more. The crooner obliged by changing into his Surprise persona and dropped some hard core deejay lyrics on the appreciative audience.

Prior to the concert, Beenie Man and Wayne Wonder stopped by a youth rally dubbed, "Shoot Hoops Not Guns". Both artistes encouraged young people to stay in school and find alternate avenues to crime and violence.

Though his visit was short, Wayne Wonder left an indelible mark on the hearts of the people of Belize and hopes to return soon.
