Jamaica's Hype TV Getting Hyper For The Future
Hype TV, the right type TV, one of a rash of local entertainment-based television channels, has reportedly inked a major deal with an overseas company that will increase its profile in the international marketplace.
You can either choose to believe the Hype or not, but the new premium cable network is in negotiations with major cable operators to charge a fee to an overseas distributor through which it will provide dancehall and reggae programming, and unedited versions of the tame music videos airing on local television stations here.
Hype TV's programming appears on already-existing cable channels across Jamaica, and the station will be looking to cash in on marketing opportunities this new development brings.
Hype is an acronym for How You Pictures Entertainment. Sources say the network, which targets viewers 18-34, will, in the future, also produce original programming including comedy specials and reality series.
