50-cent.jpgPhiladelphia, PA (AHN) - Twenty-one billboards advertising rapper 50 Cent's movie "Get Rich or Die Trying" are coming down amid opposition from community activists. The billboards show the rapper holding a gun in one hand and a microphone in the other.

Activists say the ads give a mixed message that one should rob to get rich. The billboard company, Clear Channel Outdoor, agreed to remove the signs due to the response from the community.

In Los Angeles, Paramount Pictures earlier agreed to removed some billboards for the movie after activists in a south central Los Angeles neighborhood rallied in protest.

The film mirrors the life of the rapper as a drug dealer who turns his back on a life of crime to pursue a career in the music business. The ads were placed in areas where authorities are battling to bring gang violence under control.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, says these protests are an added plus for the film. The rapper says the controversy surrounding the billboards is free publicity for his debut film, so he doesn't mind.
