The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the police's information arm, said the Adelphi police in St James are appealing to residents of Lima district in Adelphi to assist them in their investigation into the death of 74-year-old Evelyn Blair, a member of the community who was set ablaze on Thursday, April 25.

Reports are that about 6:00 a.m., Blair was walking along the roadway in her community when a man came up to her and allegedly pour gasoline on her and set her on fire.

The man then ran off.

She was taken to hospital, where she died while being treated on Saturday, April 27.

Persons who may have information to assist in the investigation are being asked to contact the Adelphi police at 876-912-1026, the police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.

Amid that disturbing development, the body of an elderly woman was found with wounds in St Mary on Friday night.

The St Mary police are probing the death of the elderly female on a farm in Richard's Pen in the parish.

The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Beverly Garricks, a farmer of Richard's Pen.

Preliminary reports are that about 7:00 p.m., a relative went to check on the whereabouts of Garricks and stumbled upon her body.

The police were summoned and on their arrival, the body was seen with wounds to the eye and abdomen.

The body was taken to the morgue, where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted at a later date.
