irawma-awards.jpgThe 37th staging of the Irawma awards will be held this year in Kingston at the world famous Jamaica Pegasus hotel on May 11, 2019. Minister Babsy Grange, who spoke at the launch, said it was most fitting that the event be held on that day as it is the anniversary of the passing of "reggae's biggest icon Bob Marley." She reflected that Bob's wish was to make his transition in Jamaica but while she was arranging to make that possible he succumbed to his illness.
Bob will be posthumously receiving the Special Emperor of Reggae and World Music Honor.

This year there are 40 categories of awards with the lead nominees being Shaggy, Sean Paul, and Koffee who is nominated for Best Female Vocalist, Best New Entertainer, Best Teen Entertainer and Most Promising Entertainer.
Rev. Jesse Jackson will be celebrated and given the Special Freedom Fighter Honor.
Also being honoured is Hon. Olivier 'Babsy' Grange who will be bestowed with Martin's International/IRAWMA Reggae/Jamaica person of the year.

Founder and President of the IRAWMA, Ephraim Martin states, " It is not just to honour the best of 2018 but to salute and honour some of reggae's foundation members".
