Easton Douglas laid to rest in official funeral at St Andrew Parish Church

wayne-marshall-easton-funeral.jpgFormer Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament, Hon. Easton Douglas, OJ, CD, was accorded an Official Funeral by the Government of Jamaica today at the St Andrew Parish Church.

Hundreds turned out to bid farewell to a man who served his country well, and rose from his modest beginnings to well-deserved heights.


Among the dignitaries in attendance were Prime MInister Andrew Holness, Opposition leader Peter Phillips, former prime ministers P J Patterson and Portia Simpson-Miller, both former presidents of the PNP, of which Douglas was a member.

Many government ministers and officials as well as leading figures in the PNP and different sectors were also present.


The congregation heard Douglas' story that started with him being born to peasant parents from Old Harbour to being a policy maker in Cabinet while serving as Member of Parliament for South East St Andrew from 1989 to 2002.

During that time, Douglas served as Minister of Health and the Public service as well as Housing, Land and Environment under Prime Ministers Michael Manley and Patterson.

Douglas' daughter Kari gave the remembrance with the sermon delivered by Reverend Robert Thompson.

Reggae artiste, Wayne Marshall performed his gospel hit "Glory to God".
