Police say they are following several leads into the murder of businessman Arnie Francis in Mona, St Andrew on Thursday night.

One of the leads suggest that the 54-year-old man, who was a manager at Alliance Investment Management Limited in New Kingston, St Andrew, fell victim to a contract killing, a senior officer from the St Andrew Central Police Division told Loop News.

Francis was attacked and shot multiple times as he arrived at his home on Butter Cup Drive.

"We are looking at several leads as we step up our probe in this case and the main one is that the attack was a contract hit," the senior officer said on Saturday.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the attacker shot the business man multiple times and then fled the scene.

"There were no signs that he was robbed," police said.

The Matilda's Corner police reported that about 9:25 pm, Francis entered his home with his wife when they were pounced upon by a lone gunman who opened fire at them. Francis was hit multiple times in the upper body, while his wife was shot in the leg. The gunman then made his escape.

The couple was taken to hospital, where Francis succumbed to his injuries and the female was admitted in stable condition.
