Military bases in Texas and Arkansas will begin housing tens of thousands of migrant children caught crossing the border illegally as soon as next month, the Pentagon said Thursday.

The Pentagon began making preparations for the policy last month, The Washington Post reported. Health and Human Services representatives visited bases last week to review the facilities, Army Lt. Col. Jamie Davis, a military spokesman, said. Up to 20,000 beds at bases in the two states would house "unaccompanied alien children," another Pentagon spokesman told The New York Times.

"We have housed refugees," Defense Secretary James Mattis said Wednesday. "We have housed people thrown out of their homes by earthquakes and hurricanes. We do whatever is in the best interest of the country."

The Obama administration rolled out a similar policy in 2014, temporarily housing 7,000 children in three military bases.

More than 2,300 children have been separated from their parents in recent weeks as part of the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy, which aims to prosecute those entering the country illegally.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order this week to stop the separations, and it was unclear whether the military bases also will house families.

"There's conflicting instructions being given," Michelle Brané, director of Migrant Rights and Justice at the Women's Refugee Commission, told The New York Times. "It's another example of this administration making these big, bold policy announcements with no plan for how they are going to implement them."

A pervy gynaecologist who told a patient to bring sex toys to his surgery and wanted to give her porn has been struck off.

Dr Iftekhar Ahmed, 51, even asked the woman if she wanted sex after performing an intimate examination on her.

The married dad-of-two also stared at the patient as she undressed at his surgery in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire - warning her not to tell anyone because he would 'be in trouble'.

Ahmed was found guilty of a string of sexual misconduct offences, including touching the woman intimately without consent and asking if she felt like having sex while examining her.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) heard how the woman, in her 40s, went to the Princess Royal health clinic for advice about sexual health twice in August 2013 and January 2015.

She told how she had been left shaken and embarrassed Ahmed when quizzed her over her sex life, what sex toys she used and if he could look at them.

The woman said: 'He started behaving strangely when I told him I didn't have a boyfriend and he started asking about my sex life and if I was having sex with anyone.

'I said I am having sex with someone because I didn't want him to know I was on my own because I felt uncomfortable and worried.

'He went on to ask many sexual questions like what sexual positions do I do and which I like.'

The woman continued: 'He asked if I like licking and he pulled his tongue out and wiggled it.'

She said: 'I did not answer but I felt dirty.

'He asked me the same question again and I told him again I didn't understand. He then said again did I feel like I wanted to have sex whilst he was doing the exam. I did not answer.'

Ahmed from Bangladesh has since moved away from the UK - it is believed he currently lives in the U.S

The woman told how she saw Ahmed 'staring at me when I was putting my clothes back on'.

He would later access her medical records for her telephone number and ask her more inappropriate questions about her private life.

He also asked if he could install pornography on her home computer.

The patient said in her statement: 'He said it was Dr Ahmed, did I remember what we said earlier and was it okay for him to come to my house to put the porn on my laptop.

'I said I wasn't at home and I could feel he was shocked. He paused and he said it was alright, he could come this evening.

'I said I didn't feel that it was alright for him to come round to install porn and I didn't want that.'

Ahmed, failed to attend the medical tribunal disciplinary hearing and is now thought to be practising in America.

He was banned from the medical register for life.

gatffest-opening-gala-2018.jpgLast weekend saw the unfolding of GATTFEST film festival's premiere gala event - the screening of Hear Me Move, the first-ever South African 'Sbujwa' street dance film.

Professor Ian Boxill, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and chair of the GATFFEST planning committee, reiterated the importance of film as an art-form, and as a potential catalyst for community development. He explained that the festival usually reserves the gala premiere night for a community-based film, but this time around, the festival utilised its international prowess, choosing to premiere Hear Me Move as a demonstration of social parallels between underserved communities in South Africa and in the Caribbean.

The film's scenes were cinematographically pristine, backdropped by vibrant graffiti, and the story was universally communicable.

"Dance and music is not integral only to South Africa, but also to Jamaica," said Gabrielle Blackwood, film-maker and president of the Jamaica Film and Television. She continued, "Hear Me Move highlighted how members of a low-income and marginalised community could come together to express themselves by representing their culture. It was not just about who had the best dance moves, but also about heart and spirit."

Over the past week, GATFFEST Film Festival has been hosting community film screenings planned and executed in Trench Town, Nannyville and Port Royal. The festival continues this week with Japanese Film Night, two International Film Nights, Colombian Film Night and a Jamaican Film Night.

hookie-weekend-2018-06-24.jpgWashington, DC (Sonique Solutions) - J'ouvert and Mas are 2 essential elements which have become synonymous with the Caribbean festival experience.

The upcoming Hookie Weekend will showcase the unbridled freedom of 'dutty mas' along with the excitement and glamour of pretty mas in the forms of the events 'Lion's Pride J'ouvert' and 'Riddim & Road' 2018.

This June, US-based promotional outfit Hookie Life Entertainment is dedicated to ensuring these beloved Carnival components remain a constant for the Caribbean culture lovers in the Washington DC metro area during its epic weekend of memorable events.

On Saturday June 23rd, Lion's Pride J'ouvert, the best and only J'ouvert experience in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) takes place at 7am at the Rosecroft Raceway.

Commonly known as 'LPJ' and considered by many Carnival connoisseurs as the perfect mix, this event offers a combination of paint, powder & revelry as well as an array of top music selections from a big truck.

Registration for LPJ includes an official LPJ T-shirt, specialty paint along with other Hookie Life goodies and a front row seat to the organized chaos of this unique J'ouvert experience. Several past Hookie Weekend attendees have referred to this day opening event as the ultimate continuation to the energy created at the previous day's Hookie DC pool party.

Following the Lion's Pride J'ouvert vibes is the fan favourite, Riddim & Road on June 24th.Hookie Weekend culminates with this event that puts a twist on the traditional Mas model and allows the masquerader to be the costume designer.

This alternative mas concept also gives patrons another opportunity to utilize and jump up with their old costumes from previous international carnivals, their 'Monday Wear' options or even their own inspired costume creations.

Riddim & Road not only fills a gap in DC by bringing back an authentic Carnival road experience to the US nation's capital, but also provides a platform for true mas enthusiasts to show off their unique style and represent Caribbean culture to the fullest while jamming to the music of top DJs and finishing the Hookie Weekend in fine fashion.

Get well soon, Alan Lewin

Webmin

alan-lewin-photo-1.jpg alan-lewin-photo-2.jpg Yardflex is sending lots of love and 'get well soon' wishes to ward-winning Montego Bay journalist Alan Lewin, who has had a long association with this publication.

Alan was admitted to the Falmouth Public General Hospital in Trelawny recently for treatment to multiple stab wounds allegedly inflicted upon him by three women. The veteran photo-journalist said he thought he wouldn't have survived the attack by the vicious, knife-wielding females.

"I didn't believe I would make it, and I am thankful that I am still alive," said Lewin, who entered the field of journalism more than 25 years ago.

In a recent interview, Alan is quoted as saying that on Saturday, June 1, he was at a popular eatery in Montego Bay when, at about 10:00 pm, he received a call from a female to meet her. Upon reaching the location, Lewin recalled that he was pounced upon by the caller and two other female accomplices who began to inflict multiple stab wounds all over his body.

He collapsed and was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, but was later transferred to Falmouth.

As Alan recalls, the incident started when the woman accused him of holding her sister hostage.

"She ordered me to sit in the corner, after which she started to unleash a string of expletives and asked me what I was doing with her sister around my house," he related.

Alan said he denied knowing his attacker's sister, nor the telephone number which they claimed to be his, from which the alleged missing woman made a call. The denial, he said, only served to rile up the female group.

"She showed me the number which started with 407 and my number is a 476 number. So, I said that is not my number, at which point she boxed me," Lewin recalled.

Following that, Lewin said, two of the women brandished knives which they used to stab him in the head, chest and side, while the third joined in and started to rain blows on him.

He collapsed and fell from the step at the court house building.

He said he called out for help and was rescued and taken to hospital.

The matter has since been reported to the police and detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Branch in Montego Bay are probing the matter.

It has been a challenging period over the past six months for Alan. He had just recovered from fracturing his foot during a football game, at the same time that he was seeking public help to raise US$3,000 (J$381,720) to acquire new equipment to continue his trade.

The World Cup got under way thisThursday afternoon in a short and sweet opening ceremony, with Robbie Williams dominating the centre of the park with a medley of his hits.

He did not play 'Party Like A Russian'.

Where previous ceremonies have featured lengthy performance-art projects about the environment, the football family and children being the future, this Russian effort was snappy: long on energy, and short on tree-hugging.

Williams was excellent, there were representatives from the competing countries, and a giant fire bird made out of crepe paper. There was, naturally, juggling, and the obligatory giant footballs.

Somebody played a harp, but not for long.

Ronaldo (the Brazil one) did some mucking about with a penalty shootout and the mascot, and that was about it.

There were no speeches during the ceremony segment, although President Putin did give a welcome before the match itself.

"Football is truly loved here and it is called love at first sight, since our first offical match here in 1897.

"I hope fans and teams enjoy their stay in Russia, an open, hospitable and friendly country with people who have the shared values.

"Football brings us altogether in one team, we are united by this spectacular game."

Meanwhile, Mavado's cousin Chase Cross who was detained last week along with four others, was re-arrested on Monday after he was charged and released on bail on Friday.

Chase Cross was charged with assaulting the man who police say fired shots at Vado on June 2.

The police have since imposed a curfew in Cassava Piece.

shenseea-ig.jpgShenseea and her manager, Romeich Major have broken their silence on the leaked photos that are currently making rounds online.

The explicit images which surfaced on social media Tuesday shows a woman resembling the 'Love I Got For You' singer performing oral sex.

Shorty after the posts went viral, Shenseea took to her Instagram story to thank her fans for their support while making it clear she was not the person in the photo despite the rumours.

Shenseea later uploaded a video sharing why woman in the photo could never be her. "People saying its photoshopped but i don't think it is..it looks real, its just not me..," she wrote.

The Governor of the Cayman Islands, Anwar Choudhury has been temporarily withdrawn from his post so as to allow the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to investigate a number of complaints against him, Premier Alden McLaughlin has announced.

In a brief statement, McLaughlin said that he had been "invited to the House of Lords" on Tuesday night to meet with Lord Ahmad, Minister of State for the Overseas Territories.

"There the minister formally advised me that His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Anwar Choudhury, has been temporarily withdrawn from his post as Governor of the Cayman Islands to allow the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to investigate a number of complaints against him," McLaughlin said.

He said that Choudhury, 59, a Bangladeshi-born British diplomat, who was sworn in as Governor in March 2018, is currently in the United Kingdom and that the investigation is likely to last at least six weeks.

"The minister insisted that no further details could be provided at this stage and indicated that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office did not intend to make a public statement regarding the matter," McLaughlin added.

He said that during this period, Deputy Governor, Franz Manderson, will act as Governor and that he has already spoken with the Acting Governor "who confirmed that he had been similarly advised and that he was in the post and had briefed Chief Officers,".

"I have advised the Speaker, the Cabinet, the Government Caucus and the Leader of Opposition accordingly. While this development was unforeseen and is most unfortunate, I am confident that it will not affect the continued good governance of the Cayman Islands," McLaughlin added.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgJamaican singjay, David Brooks, more popularly known as Mavado was allegedly defrauded of just over $30 million by prominent attorney Jennifer Messado. Reports are that Messado's attorney revealed, too, that she was arrested Tuesday on a fourth set of fraud-related offences and is to appear in court on Friday in relation to those charges.

These latest developments in the seemingly never-ending saga of the prominent attorney and fraud-related charges, were revealed in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court Wednesday afternoon.

Messado, who was led into court in handcuffs is facing fraud-related charges linked to the sale of several properties in St Andrew.

Clerk of Court Hansurd Lawson strongly opposed bail, claiming that, among other things, she has been in contact with one of the complainants in the case and has been moving around money in her bank account related to other complainants.

Despite this, Messado was granted bail by Parish Judge Vaughn Smith in the amount of $5 million with the same conditions as her two previous cases.

The Clerk of the Court, in outlining the newest allegations against Messado, said Mavado told the police that in April 2017 he went to view to a property in the Kingston area. Mavado began making arrangements to purchase the property through his attorney, Tamika Harris.

The Clerk of the Court revealed that Mavado later paid Jennifer Messado $30.7 million for the property and signed a sale agreement and a document giving him possession. However, it was later discovered that the property was not for sale.

"The owner of the property said he does not know who Miss Messado is and never gave her permission to sell his property," Hansurd Lawson, the clerk of the court informed the court.

He acknowledged that the entertainer has been reimbursed $7 million, but is "still out of pocket for the rest of his money".

The other complainants in the case for which Messado appeared in court today are St Andrew businessman Norman Horne and his sister, Charlotte.

Horne, according to the clerk of court, was allegedly defrauded of $28 million which he paid Messado for a property located on Argyle Road in St Andrew.

It was later discovered that the property is owned by the Sports Development Foundation and is not for sale.

jah-cure.jpgBelow is the text of Jah Cure's apology:

"I would like to apologize to my fans, friends and family. I am human and like many others, I've been dealing with so many various issues in this thing we call life and I let it get the best of me. I used social media and I lashed out, I generalized using the term sound boy when it wasn't meant generally. I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct and I do want to set the right example for my daughter.

"To the Djs and fans that have supported me over the years I apologize for the language, unwarranted accusations and the things said. I realise it was over the top and unnecessary.... I took the actions and words of a few and shifted it to many. I'm passionate and while that transfers great in my music at times it doesn't do so well for social media. See wid the Rasta!

"We all have our challenges but I have a duty, Jah said create good music and that is what I shall do.

jah-cure-bahamas.jpgIt has been a drama filled couple of days for dreadlocked singer, Jah Cure.

He lashed out mercilessly at selector who want dubplates, telling them that he is rich and doesn't need their money. But that was just the tip of the iceberg, as the singer, in an emotionally charged social media post, replete with Jamaican bad words, in essence, made it clear that that all of these persons were of no more value than the dirt under his feet.

Of course, fans pushed back at the Cure, while selectors were quick to call out Jah Cure for his blatant disrespect.

There was talk of banning his songs and then the artiste took down the post, after which he apologised.

Top lawyer Jennifer Messado arrested AGAIN

hands-behind-bars.jpgIt is no joke, attorney Jennifer Messado is back in police custody.

She was detained on Tuesday after further allegations of fraud were made against her, this time by two complainants -- a popular entertainer and a well known businessman.

Mrs Messado's attorney, Christopher Townsend, admitted that she was being questioned by detectives of the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) and it is likely that she will be charged.

Additional fraud charges were laid against Mrs Messado two weeks ago.

The attorney, who specialises in real estate transactions, was re-arrested and charged with breaches of the Forgery Act.

On May 15, during her appearance in the St. Andrew Parish Court on similar charges, the court was told that detectives were opposed to Mrs Messado being granted bail as she was being investigated for other matters.

She was offered bail in the sum of $800,000 and is to return to court on July 3.

Mrs. Messado is charged jointly with Real Estate broker Beverly Barakat.

Chase, whose real name is Sameer Coombs, is Mavado's cousin. He was charged with assault and released on bail last week Friday.

However, it was reported on Tuesday that Chase Cross has again been detained by the police.

police-station.jpgThe police have stepped up their investigation into the murder of Clarendon businessman Brandon Murray at the Mayfair Hotel in St Andrew on Sunday and are hoping that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras located at the premises can lead them to the killers.

Murray, 47, a restaurateur, was murdered on the compound of the hotel at around 4:45 p.m.

Deputy Superintendent Winston Hunt of the Half-Way Tree Police Station is reported as saying the investigation spanned several parishes.

"The scene was revisited Monday morning and we basically did neighbourhood investigations and appealed to anyone with information pointing to suspects. What I can tell you is that there are [recording] devices. We have made requests to see if those devices were up and running at the time of the incident," Hunt disclosed.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed because we have seen on occasions where even though there are cameras, there are technical challenges," he said.

"The investigation is not confined to the Mayfair Hotel. We have to look at the Clarendon neighbourhood in which he resided and we have to look at the area in which he worked, too. We are keeping an open mind," Hunt said.

Meanwhile, Sport Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange expressed shock at the tragic passing of Murray, who was co-founder of Sporting Central Academy football club.

"Brandon contributed to the development of football in Jamaica, first as a player, football club owner, and as the person best known for the rehabilitation of football fields in Jamaica. I pray for his family and loved ones at this time," Grange said in a statement.

Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon Mike Henry also expressed condolences on the passing of the businessman, which has plunged the Clarendon business community into mourning.

chase-cross.jpgEntertainer Chase Cross, who just happens to be the cousin of Gully Gad, Mavado, has been charged with assault and released from police lockup. Chase Cross was among a group of people including Mavado's son who was arrested this week.

However, Mavado's 17 year old son remains in police custody and has reportedly been transferred from an adult facility to a lockup for juveniles.

Meanwhile, Mavado who is still wanted by the police for questioning in relation to the violence in the Cassava Piece Community is expected to turn himself in after fulfilling his contractual obligations in the United States according to his lawyer.

The Constant Spring police department issued a notice on Tuesday asking Mavado to report to the police for questioning.

The dancehall singjay was supposed to report by midday on Wednesday but he left the island before the order was issued.

All this stems following an incident in Cassava Piece where shots were fired at Mavado who escaped unhurt. Subsequent that saga a man was brutally murdered in the same community.

Police have since arrested and charged one man, while investigations continue in other matter.

sandals.jpgSandals Resorts International has dismissed as "misleading and downright spurious" a video criticizing the hotel chain's entertainment hiring practices.

The 10-minute long video accused Sandals of continuously showing disregard for Jamaican professionals by "putting foreign nationals in charge of entertainment, both at the corporate and contractor level". It also accused the resort of racism in its hiring of senior managers including executive chefs and general managers.

Sandals has however rubbished the accusations, stating that 80 per cent of performers in its Jamaican resorts are Jamaicans.

"The remaining 20 per cent are used to execute circus shows, mainly as the local group capable of doing so is fully booked," said the resort in a statement.

It also said, "allegations surrounding racism could be no further from the truth as at SRI, the ratio of expats to Jamaicans is less than two per cent.

"It is important to highlight that Sandals has several Jamaican General Managers and Hotel Managers leading resorts in other islands across the Caribbean," the Gordon "Butch" Stewart-run hotel chain added.

The Ministry of Tourism meanwhile said while it "reviews the concerns within the content, there is present misleading and erroneous information that must also be understood in the context of an increasingly competitive tourism sector."

According to the ministry, the record growth in the industry has left "many hotels and attractions packed and bursting at the seams".

It also supported Sandals' statement that 80 per cent of its entertainers are Jamaican.

"We are working very closely with Entertainment and Culture Minister, Olivia Babsy Grange to meet with all relevant stakeholders to dissect and address upfront all concerns," the ministry said.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgMavado's legal team says that the entertainer is willing to meet with detectives, but the time has to convenient.

In a letter to the police, the lawyers reportedly outlined the artiste's schedule and requested an appropriate date to get the session done. The attorneys say 'Vado is willing to meet with investigators, but has to be mindful of the legal implications if he fails to honour his obligations.

The police issued a statement on Tuesday asking the entertainer, whose real name is David Brooks, to report to the Constant Spring Police Station in St Andrew by midday the following day.

"The police believe that Mr. Brooks can assist with an ongoing investigation," the statement said.

But Mavado's attorneys Peter Champagnie and Tamika Harris say at the time the statement was issued Mavada was overseas honouring previous contractual obligations.

The request for Mavado to report to the police came after a series of incidents in the St Andrew community known as Cassava Piece last weekend.

In the first incident, which occurred last Saturday, Mavado was reportedly shot at by a man with whom he had a dispute earlier.

Days later, two men from the community were shot and killed by unknown assailan

chase-cross.jpgEntertainer, Chase Cross, has been charged with assaulting Anthony Goulbourne, the man accused of shooting at Mavado during a dispute in Cassava Piece on Saturday.

Goulbourne reported that he was assaulted by Chase Cross and Mavado.

Mavado, who is overseas, is expected back in the island this weekend to be questioned by the police.

Chase Cross has been released on station bail.

Since the shooting, rival gunmen have been trading bullets in Cassava Piece.

A man was killed and his body set on fire earlier this week.

The police have since imposed a curfew in the area.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgDetectives from the Major Investigation Division (MID) have taken over the probe involving Mavado's 17 year old son, along with other relatives and associates of the dancehall entertainer.

This was disclosed during Friday's hearing of a writ of habeas corpus filed in the St. Andrew Parish Court.

Mavado's attorneys had filed the writ demanding the release of the entertainer's son, his brother, two cousins and gardener. They were arrested on Tuesday as part of the investigation into the deadly violence in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew. During the hearing, investigators told the parish judge that the MID now has an interest in the five individuals.

The cops are to return to court on Monday to give the parish judge a status report on the individuals.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgCamika Harrison, one of two attorneys-at-law representing Mavado, who was a "no-show" at Wednesday's questioning session at the Constant Spring Police in St Andrew said he had left the island on Sunday and the police should have been aware of that situation.

"The police has all the necessary resources to check on his whereabouts... They have PICA (Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency), which is at their disposal. They should have known. He has not been in the island for more than 24 hours... He does not live in Jamaica and returned home (to the United States)."

Pierre Rogers is also representing the entertainer.

Harrison said she and Rogers met with a senior cop at the Constant Spring Police arrangements were being made for their client to come in.

Mavado is booked for a show in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

johnny-daley-photo-1.jpgFor immediate release June 6, 2018, Kingston Jamaica After what was thought to be a done deal and the start of a new chapter for Comedian and broadcaster Chris Johnny Daley's Johnny LIVE radio show on University owned radio station News Talk 93fm; the show came to a premature halt on Tuesday when Daley was informed that the station was ceasing new programming until further notice.

Negotiations began almost a month ago with Station Managers and Chris Daley and even with the sales team for Newstalk 93 FM. There was an agreement made for the new home of Daley's Johnny LIVE radio show to air on Newstalk 93fm weekday afternoons 2:30-5pm starting on June 4th 2018.

"The station manager assured me that all was well and we were set to sign the final contract on the very first broadcast day Monday June 4, they even wanted the show to start earlier than that date so its a surprise that the University and the Station Management are at odds and i am caught in the middle" Daley explained

The Johnny LIVE Afternoon show was off to a great start and feedback on the the first show on Monday was already positive, however communication with the University and the Radio station's management seemed to have either broken down or was non existent.

"If the Stations Management did not have the authority to engage my show to join the station then they shouldn't have done so. If the University is making this decision without realizing how it affects people then i'm very disappointed. My team and i have made adjustments to our lives to accommodate the daily afternoon show, my producer left another job to work with me, this isn't something to be taken lightly," Daley added

The comedian had also started a social media promotional campaign about his new radio home urging his fans to tune in. This would be the third home of Daley's radio brand as it was previously aired on Suncity Radio and Bess 100FM.

"The whole thing makes me very sad because fans have been asking me when i would be back on radio and i was happy to tell them that Johnny LIVE had a new radio home. I really don't like to be constantly moving the brand from station to station but even if Newstalk can work out its internal issues with the University i doubt i will return to the table because they have been surprisingly unprofessional," Daley stated

In the meantime Daley is focused on his Johnny LIVE Comedy Bar comedy series held on a Tuesday night at 100 Hope Road. He is set to have fast rising American comedian Shuler King appear in Jamaica for the first time on June 26 for a Comedy Bar special.

The US Supreme Court ruled in favor of Jack Phillips, the Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a gay wedding.

I wish I could say the ruling was a huge win for the First Amendment. All I can say is that it was not necessarily a loss for the First Amendment. A win would have been a decision affirming an individual's right to operate his business, and create art, in accordance with his sincerely held religious beliefs. The 7-2 decision passed down by the Court this morning does not offer any precedent so sweeping or important as that. Instead it finds, in this specific case, that the baker's rights were violated because the Colorado Civil Rights Commission showed open hostility to Phillips' religious convictions. But what if they were more subtle in their hostility? What if a Christian business owner is targeted by cleverer bullies? What about all of the other Christian business owners who have been legally penalized for refraining from participating in gay weddings? This decision has nothing to say on any of those questions. This salvo from the fascist gay Left was blocked, but there is nothing stopping them from firing another round. And then another. And then another. The fight continues.

But even if the Court basically punted on the broader questions, it is still good to pause and appreciate the fact that the innocent victim won in this case and the vindictive bullies lost. The Colorado Civil Rights Commission clearly bullied Phillips and sought to punish him for his religious views, even at one point comparing his cake refusal to the Holocaust. They have now been thoroughly humiliated, and I imagine they will face considerable backlash from their fellow liberals for squandering a golden opportunity. This is all worth celebrating.

And we should also rejoice that the other bullies -- the gay couple, David Mullins and Charlie Craig -- failed to achieve the victory and admiration they were chasing. While the Supreme Court focused its rebukes on the Civil Rights Commission, I think a hearty rebuke is owed to these two men, who targeted Jack Phillips and sought to ruin his life and his business for no good reason.

They failed. Praise God they failed. They richly deserve this failure and the public humiliation that accompanies it. But there are more bullies waiting in the wings to try and successfully accomplish what Mullins and Craig failed to do. We must remain vigilant. The First Amendment lives another day, but its long-term prospects remain in doubt.

Remember that Jack Phillips was well known for his devout Christian beliefs before that fateful day when Mullins and Craig walked in the door. Phillips would regularly refuse to create customized cakes for events he found morally problematic. Yet, of all the bakers in the area, these two gay men just so happened to seek the services of the one baker who was so orthodox that he wouldn't even make Halloween cakes. It does not take much of a logical leap to see that this was quite intentional.

It is said that Phillips "refused to serve" Mullins and Craig. That's not true. He offered to sell them any item in the store. He would have even sold them a wedding cake. The only thing he would not do -- could not do - was customize one. So, the gay men could have simply purchased a standard wedding cake. Or they could have left the store and gone to literally any other bakery in the state. Decent human beings would select either of those two options. But Mullins and Craig are not decent human begins. They opted for option three: set out on a years-long process to utterly destroy Jack Phillips, take down his business, and impoverish his family.

crime-scene-tape-gloves.jpgFamily and friends of 23-year-old Lorenza Thomas, otherwise called 'Israel' or 'Trulups', of Cassava Piece Road are in mourning after his bizarre "three deaths on Tuesday morning as violence intensifies in the St Andrew community.

Thomas was reportedly at home early in the morning when armed men kicked in the door to the house that he occupied and shot and then severed his head. His body was then set ablaze by the attackers.

montreal-international-reggae-festival.jpgMontreal International Reggae Fest (MIRF) will be on hiatus for 2018, a release from the festival's organisers say.

What was scheduled to be the 15th anniversary this year will be put on hold until next year, 2019. It became clear in May that staging a quality 3-day festival was not going to be possible. During the MIRF teams time away, they will be revamping and restructuring major parts of the festival behind the scenes in order to be a more organized and dynamic event for all concerned.

Regarding the hiatus, Mr. Blagrove, Founder and President of MIRF says "it is hurtful to know that the festival will not be happening this year. We tried everything possible to save this season but it just couldn't happen. We will be improving production and have created a platform for an interactive experience, so fans have more engagement. We will be back next year better than ever."

MIRF outlets have been overwhelmed with inquiries and messages of support from fans; all of which has fueled the teams efforts to make sure 2019 will be a year to remember. Fans are encouraged to keep up to date via the festival Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/montrealinternationalreggaefestival/ or via Instagram @MTLReggaeFest. Email inquiries can be sent to info@montrealreggaefest.com

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgPolice officers from the Constant Spring station swooped down on the entertainer's Norbrook residence in search of him.

"We have confirmed that Mavado has left the island, but we have taken his 16 year-old son into custody. Mavado's nephew, Chase Cross, is also in custody as well as his brother and his cousin. They will all be questioned regarding crimes committed in the area," the source said.

The development comes hours after the gruesome murder of a man in Cassava Piece early Tuesday morning as the internecine gang violence intensified in the area.

The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Lorenza Thomas, otherwise called 'Israel' or 'Trulups', of Cassava Piece Road.

Thomas was reportedly at home early in the morning when armed men kicked in the door to the house that he occupied and shot and then severed his head. His body was then set ablaze by the attackers.

The Police were summoned, the scene processed and his body removed to the morgue

Thomas was the second person killed in three days in the wake of a shooting incident involving Mavado in the community on Saturday. The first murder was that of a Cassava Piece resident, Ian Robinson, otherwise called 'Gaza Man', who was shot dead at the Constant Spring Market.

Mavado was reportedly involved in a physical confrontation which led to him being shot at on Saturday. The police have a man in custody in relation to that shooting but he is yet to be charged.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgPolice have ordered dancehall artiste Mavado to turn himself into the authorities for questioning and have detained a number of the deejay's close relatives at the Constant Spring lock up in relation to the flare up of violence in the entertainer's Cassava Piece, St Andrew community.

"We are calling on the entertainer to visit the police station as we seek to ask him a number of questions in relation to a number of developments in the Cassava Piece area," a senior officer from the Constant Spring police division is reported as saying.

Police confirmed that Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, reportedly left the island Monday night, hours before law enforcement officers from the Constant Spring station swooped down on the entertainer's Norbrook residence in search of him.

Robert Nesta Morgan PR Expert My Foot!

(Yardflex just had to republish this Letter Of The Day Published: Friday | June 1, 2018 | in the Gleaner)

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Director of communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Nesta Morgan, has declared himself a PR expert and has dashed headlong to disprove this.

In the current controversy over his declared desire or intention to enter representational politics and the reaction from Pearnel Charles Sr, had he exercised some restraint, been more careful in his choice of words and the tone of his subsequent response, he might have convinced some persons that he really is an expert.

Here is where he has gone wrong.

1. Did he consider the likely reaction of the aged Charles Sr when he posted his intention to replace him as the MP? It is true the constituency does not belong to the Charles family and Mr Morgan has every right to challenge now and in the future. The question is, as a PR expert, did he consider the implications of how he went about his announcement?

2. His reaction to Charles Sr's pushback was overflowing with arrogance and conceit. If you are a PR expert, you prove this by your work, not by blaring a trumpet. The net effect of his statements is to stir up a public brawl within his own party - one likely to impress only the most loyal.

3. He was heard on a radio clip on May 30 expressing fears publicly for his safety. Now this is a dispute among Labourites - not PNP and JLP. Is this what the PR expert wants to telegraph to the wider public - Labourite sharpening to attack another Labourite publicly? Of course, this has happened in the past, but is this what the PR expert wants to highlight now?

What is evident here is an example of someone who overreaches believing they can easily transfer the their 'expertise' in other areas. This is often a prelude to a big crash.

My advice to the young man is: Cease and settle! Go labour for the constituency by trodding the dusty roads. Get out of the social-media bubble. Don't get too impressed by the press release you wrote about yourself.

HUGO VICTOR

niko-chromatic.jpgFriends and family said their final farewell to Nicholas Grant, better known as Niko Chromatic, Saturday at his thanksgiving service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston. And despite the fact that there were quite a few colleague who made the effort to be present, the absence of the key players of Chromatic Sound System was obvious.

Many whispers were heard as persons speculated as to why Creep Chromatic could not have found a way to excuse himself from a gig in Canada that would fall on the day of their co-founder's funeral.

That aside, however, Niko's spouse Kimberley Mais and their two children had the support of family and close friends, many of whom wept openly for a man whose life was described as bringing joy to others.

Niko, who battled kidney disease for three years, died on Tuesday, May 8 while efforts were being made for him to do surgery for a kidney transplant..

Reverend Kingsley Asphall, who delivered the homily, noted that Niko was a happy person and urged members of the gathering to remember that while they were happy in the "world", they must get to the point of being happy in the Lord.

The inaugural Ali Cole Cup was launched recently at Excelsior High School's auditorium.

The invitational tournament is in honour of former Excelsior Manning Cup football captain Allan "Ali" Cole, who died suddenly last year. Ali Cole is the son of former Jamaica football standout Allan "Skill" Cole.

This year's event, to be hosted at the Mountain View Avenue-based school on July 13 and 14, is set to feature Zone A schools Excelsior, Camperdown High, Kingston High and Dunoon Technical. Zone B features Holy Trinity High, Papine High, Clan Carthy High and Vauxhall High.

Deanroy Bromfield, principal of Excelsior, said that the nature of the tournament epitomises Cole's personality.

"I think it is such a wonderful initiative, and I'm sure it will be a great tournament. But even more than being a great tournament is the objective of this initiative, which is to develop these youngsters through sports. It is characteristic of Ali Cole, it's a characteristic of what Excelsior stands for -- that we share what we have," Bromfield is quoted as saying.

He explained that effort was made to focus primarily on non-traditional institutions located in eastern and central sections of Kingston.

Five years ago, their EDM hit 'Watch Out For This' (Bumaye) featuring Flexion was selected as the soundtrack for Pepsi's Lionel Messi ad. The song appeared on Major Lazer's second album 'Free the Universe' and was a massive hit single in several European countries.

Several past Hookie Weekend attendees have referred to this day opening event as the ultimate continuation to the energy created at the previous day's Hookie DC pool party.

Following the Lion's Pride J'ouvert vibes is the fan favourite, Riddim & Road on June 24th.Hookie Weekend culminates with this event that puts a twist on the traditional Mas model and allows the masquerader to be the costume designer.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgAccording to Mavado's attorney Tamika Harris, the entertainer is claiming his son is innocent.

Harris says Mavado is distraught and a little perturbed and maintains that the allegation against his son is not true, and is willing to go at lengths to defend him.

She is representing the 16-year-old who is charged with conspiracy to murder, arson, shooting with intent, as well as illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

As he is a minor, the teen's name cannot be released to the public.

The minor is being charged in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Lorenza Thomas, also known as "Chulups" and "Israel".

Harris also indicated that Mavado is to return to the island but he does not want the media to know when.

court.jpgChief engineer at the state-run National Energy Solutions (NESOL), 33-year-old Lawrence Pommels, and 34-year-old mechanic, Ricardo Harris, who were arrested after $35 million was allegedly found at premises in Old Harbour , St Catherine on June 7, are to make their first appearance in court on Tuesday, June 19.

The men, who have been charged with money laundering, possession of criminal property, breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act and bribery, were booked to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, but the date was pushed back to this week.

Their attorneys are expected to apply for bail when the matter is mentioned on Tuesday.

In addition to the cash, four high-end motor vehicles, including a BMW X6 and an Audi, along with other valuables, were also seized by detectives who raided the homes in Old Harbour.

Pommels, a recent graduate of a local university, was reportedly in charge at NESOL at the time of his arrest. NESOL previously operated as the Rural Electrification Programme, which had its mandate widened from just bringing electricity to rural communities.

What is being described as the culmination of a high-level probe saw investigators from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch as well as the Financial Investigation Division (FID), swooping down on two houses in New Harbour Village last week Thursday, resulting in the cash, motor vehicles and other valuables being seized.

Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell, has since indicated that he wants the management of NESOL and officials of the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology to appear before Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee to answer questions in light of the NESOL developments.

The two accused are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 18.

rapper-xxx-tentacion.jpgDEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Deputies at the Broward Sheriff's Office in Fort Lauderdale, United States are searching for suspects in relation to the murder of Jamaican-American rapper-singer XXXTentacion who was pronounced dead yesterday evening at a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital.

The troubled rapper-singer was fatally shot in the driver's seat of a luxury electric sportscar, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. The 20-year-old rising star, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shot outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.

At least one of them fired, and then both suspects fled the scene in a dark SUV, Concepcion said.

A sheriff's office statement described the shooting as an apparent robbery attempt, adding that no immediate arrests were made. His brief career was mired in controversy.

In 2016, he was arrested on charges including home invasion for a 2015 incident, and less than a month later was jailed on charges that he attacked his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time.

Get well soon, Alan Lewin

alan-lewin-photo-1.jpg alan-lewin-photo-2.jpg Yardflex is sending lots of love and 'get well soon' wishes to ward-winning Montego Bay journalist Alan Lewin, who has had a long association with this publication.

Gully Bop was arrested after the female complainant made a report at the Morant Bay Police Station that he hit her in the face during an argument at Nuts River . The alleged assault reportedly caused the female swelling and pain.

The entertainer was granted $40,000 bail.

"Football brings us altogether in one team, we are united by this spectacular game."

mavado-son-yardflex.jpgThe teenage son of dancehall singjay Mavado was questioned by police on Tuesday, meanwhile, his famous father is yet to execute the request of the Constant Spring Police who urged the entertainer to turn himself in.

Mavado's son, Donte Brooks was arrested last week along with four others in connection with the violence in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew.

In the meantime, reports are that, Head of the St. Andrew North Police, Superintendent Glenford Miller, has warned that investigators will not wait indefinitely for Mavado to surrender to them. Last week, the police sent out an advisory urging Mavado to report for questioning in connection with the violence in Cassava Piece. However, the dancehall singjay is currently in the United States fulfilling his contractual obligations.

There was talk of banning his songs and then the artiste took down the post, after which he apologised.

hands-behind-bars.jpgIt is no joke, attorney Jennifer Messado is back in police custody.

Mrs. Messado is charged jointly with Real Estate broker Beverly Barakat.

police-station.jpgThe police have stepped up their investigation into the murder of Clarendon businessman Brandon Murray at the Mayfair Hotel in St Andrew on Sunday and are hoping that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras located at the premises can lead them to the killers.

The cops are to return to court on Monday to give the parish judge a status report on the individuals.

leon-bailey.jpgKFC Jamaica has announced a partnership with Jamaican football sensation, Leon Bailey ahead of the launch of the company's World Cup marketing campaign.

Bailey, who plays professionally for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, will star in marketing campaigns for KFC Jamaica's limited time Winner Box meal offer and its flagship Big Deal, set to launch next week. The partnership will also see KFC teaming up with Bailey, Bailey's brother Kyle Butler and the Phoenix All-Star Academy, as they embark on plans to give back to Jamaica.

Bailey has already begun discussions with KFC to give back to Cassava Piece, from where the sports star originally hails, as well as the wider community, through sports development.

"Bailey has big plans in the near future both in his career on the field and here in Jamaica off the field," said Andrei Roper, Brand Manager for KFC Jamaica."KFC is here to support his vision for his community and Jamaica in any way that we can."

Bailey first honed his skills at Phoenix All-Star Academy, owned and operated by Bailey's father Craig Butler.

The footballer's talent has caught the attention of numerous football clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and his current team Bayer Leverkusen.

"KFC Jamaica has always been a supporter of youth development through sports and Leon Bailey is the embodiment of development through football," Roper added.

Bailey's great success has garnered the support and adoration of Jamaicans globally.

Restaurants of Jamaica, owners and operators of KFC locally, is the first and only Jamaican Corporate entity that Bailey has partnered with.

Bailey's professional football career began in Belgium at Koninklijke Racing Club Genk (KRC Genk), where he scored his first goal for the team in November 2015. His talent and performance throughout the season saw Bailey top scoring for the club in 2015 and being awarded the Belgian Young Footballer of the Year for the 2015 - 2016 season. Bailey's success continued into the 2016 - 2017 football season, when his goal scored against Rapid Wien in September 2016 was recognized as the Top Goal of the season.

By the end of the 2017 - 2018 football season, Bailey had scored 12 goals over 34 games which played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen's 5th place finish in the Bundesliga.

KFC added that Jamaicans should expect big things from the KFC-Bailey-Phoenix Academy partnership in the future. "Leon is a BIG DEAL in the truest sense. The sky is the limit for him and KFC Jamaica is proud to be a part of his growth and ascension both on and off the field," Roper added.

"This partnership between KFC Jamaica and Leon is very exciting, and one that we plan to bring to life in a BIG way, not just on television and in traditional media, but in the digital and social media space, at our KFC restaurants and in the community."

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgCamika Harrison, one of two attorneys-at-law representing Mavado, who was a "no-show" at Wednesday's questioning session at the Constant Spring Police in St Andrew said he had left the island on Sunday and the police should have been aware of that situation.

They opted for option three: set out on a years-long process to utterly destroy Jack Phillips, take down his business, and impoverish his family.

montreal-international-reggae-festival.jpgMontreal International Reggae Fest (MIRF) will be on hiatus for 2018, a release from the festival's organisers say.

Robert Nesta Morgan PR Expert My Foot!

Webmin
No Comments

He explained that effort was made to focus primarily on non-traditional institutions located in eastern and central sections of Kingston.

major-lazer.jpgNYC: Major Lazer and Busy Signal have done it again, this time with their combination hit 'Jump.' The song, which was released last year on Major Lazer's 6-track EP, is featured in a hot new Bacardi TV ad which is in rotation in the USA on NBC TV and other mainstream platforms.

The ad, which was shot in Miami, Florida coveys the message that It doesn't matter if it's your living room, a barbershop, a beach or even a laundromat, you can still groove to the beat.

This is not the first time that dancehall heart throb Busy Signal has teamed with Major Lazer for a successful TV ad.

"Football brings us altogether in one team, we are united by this spectacular game."

mavado-son-yardflex.jpgThe teenage son of dancehall singjay Mavado was questioned by police on Tuesday, meanwhile, his famous father is yet to execute the request of the Constant Spring Police who urged the entertainer to turn himself in.

He was detained last week with other relatives including, recording artiste Chase Cross.

The dancehall deejay who has maintained his innocence is expected to return to court on July 3.

sandals.jpgSandals Resorts International has dismissed as "misleading and downright spurious" a video criticizing the hotel chain's entertainment hiring practices.

The police say the incident happened yesterday morning about 5:30 a.m. in Portland West area in the parish.

According to the police, Montague, who was wanted for shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm, was shot and injured when he engaged lawmen in an exchange of gunfire during an operation in the area.

They say two firearms - a .40 Smith and Wesson pistol and a .38 revolver, a magazine and nine rounds of ammunition - were seized during the incident.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgCamika Harrison, one of two attorneys-at-law representing Mavado, who was a "no-show" at Wednesday's questioning session at the Constant Spring Police in St Andrew said he had left the island on Sunday and the police should have been aware of that situation.

They opted for option three: set out on a years-long process to utterly destroy Jack Phillips, take down his business, and impoverish his family.

montreal-international-reggae-festival.jpgMontreal International Reggae Fest (MIRF) will be on hiatus for 2018, a release from the festival's organisers say.

About Montreal Reggae Fest:

The festival takes place the third weekend in August to commemorate the end of summer.

The festival has been running for 14 years. 2019 will make the 15th year.

mavado-photo-12-large.jpgPolice officers from the Constant Spring station swooped down on the entertainer's Norbrook residence in search of him.

He explained that effort was made to focus primarily on non-traditional institutions located in eastern and central sections of Kingston.

major-lazer.jpgNYC: Major Lazer and Busy Signal have done it again, this time with their combination hit 'Jump.' The song, which was released last year on Major Lazer's 6-track EP, is featured in a hot new Bacardi TV ad which is in rotation in the USA on NBC TV and other mainstream platforms.

The Dancheall artiste's 1998 hit single 'Who Am I' has made it to the list of Billboard Magazine's Top 98 Tracks of 1998.

At least by one radio station which has banned from its airways, Chozenn's remake of the raunchy Dovey Magnum song on a dancehall rhythm. The song is none other than 'Bawl Out".

tommy-lee-photo-10-full-color.jpgIf Tommy Lee Sparta thinks that all is well and his case is closed, then he's in for a rude awakening.

The police have confirmed that the case is neither closed nor cold and that they are continuing investigations in relation to the dancehall entertainer.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ealan Powell said that the judge's ruling does not mean the investigations are at an end.

Tommy Lee was arrested on May 20 at Manor Park in St. Andrew and later transferred to the Freeport police station in St. James.

The police had said the artiste was detained for questioning in relation to several crimes committed in St. James.

On Tuesday, St. James Parish Judge Sandria Wong Small ruled that the entertainer be released immediately as he was not properly detained.

Meanwhile, the artiste is booked to perform at Reggae Sumfest in July. Staged by Downsound, the company CEO Josef Bogdanovich was quoted as saying that he was looking forward to having the Sparta boss on the festival and advised Tommy Lee to continue focusing on his career
