Why does the ministry need names of 'sick; teachers? JTA asks

There are rumblings in the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) regarding what it says are efforts by the Ministry of Education to solicit information from schools as it relates to teachers who were absent during the recent sick-out.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, the Association questioned what was the intended purpose of the information in light of the fact that there was a clear understanding arrived at among the parties in a meeting at the Ministry of Labour on March 14, including that there would be no victimisation.

It expressed concern about a plan to extend the school year to account for the three days lost.
