Machete-wielding mom in court; case rescheduled

machete-beaten.jpgDoreen Dyer, the St Thomas mother who was seen in a video beating her daughter with a machete had her case rescheduled to February 9 when she appeared in the Morant Bay Parish Court this morning.

The court was told the social a enquiry report was not ready, hence the new date, at which time the judge would make a decision as to sentencing.

At the previous court appearance Dyer's lawyer has asked the court to indicate what sentence it would be imposed if she were to plead guilty.

The 44-year-old mother is charged with cruelty to a child.

Dyer was charged by the police on October 6 and was subsequently offered bail.

The video shows the partially nude mother beating the girl violently with a machete while cursing expletives.

The police said their investigation revealed that the incident happened last year.
