Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), Mexico's leading private airport operator, raised USD 121 million on 9 November issuing 23m five-year notes with a nominal value of MXN 100 each.

GAP is among the pre-qualified bidders participating in the privatization of Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica.

The local currency bonds mature in 2022 with interest payable every 28 days at a variable rate of TIIE-28 plus 44 basis points. GAP maintains a debt-to-EBITDA ratio below 1 with MXN 9bn (USD 473m) in total debt.

GAP's latest bond issuance coincides with a period of sustained growth for the Guadalajara-based company. GAP grew traffic by 11.7% in November over the same month in 2016, a rate equal to passenger traffic growth at the company's airports YTD. GAP projects a 17% increase in aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues in 2017 and similar EBITDA growth.

GAP maintains the highest possible credit rating from S&P and Moody's. GAP's extraordinary growth in traffic, solid fundamentals and outstanding performance over the past several years has boosted investor confidence leading to a strong demand for the company's equity and debt instruments in the US and Mexican capital markets.

GAP's extraordinary performance in 2017 is attributable to a successful strategy of developing new routes and supporting the growth of airlines within its airport network. The growth in passenger traffic has boosted the company's financial performance, providing handsome returns to shareholders of the NYSE- and BMX-listed equities.

Airports operated by GAP provide an immeasurable economic stimulus to the communities in which they are situated, supporting commercial, tourism and industrial activities.

The Opposition is piling more pressure on the Government over the controversial contract awarded to O'Brien's International Car Sales and Rental Services to source used vehicles for the police.

In a statement released last night, Opposition spokesman Mikael Phillips questioned Friday's announcement that the Cabinet has instructed the National Security Minister to formally write to General Accident Insurance Company Limited to request payment of the performance bond put up by O'Brien's.

According to Phillips, this is a new twist, as the National Security Minister Robert Montague had reported in Parliament last Tuesday that the ministry had already called the bond.

The Opposition spokesman also said the decision by the government to withdraw the moratorium granted to O'Brien's to clear some 66 vehicles from the wharf has blighted the possibility for the cars to be delivered any time soon.

The vehicles have been sitting on the wharf because O'Brien's could not come up the $40 million to pay the required Special Consumption Tax and General Consumption Tax.

Instead, it wrote to the National Security Ministry asking that it pays the taxes since this expense was not including in the bid.

The National Security Ministry refused, however, the Finance Ministry worked out an arrangement for the Customs Department to allow the importer until May next year to pay off the requisite taxes.

Amid the controversy over the granting of this moratorium, the Cabinet had a special meeting on Friday where, on the advice of the attorney general, the offer for the moratorium was withdrawn.

Phillips says the decision to call the bond and withdraw the moratorium signals that the government does not take seriously, the issue of police mobility despite the skyrocketing murder rate.

The $400 million contract to O'Brien's was to purchase 200 used vehicles including pickups.

However, only about 30 have been so far delivered.

crime-scene-gun.jpgGunmen on Sunday evening attacked mourners at a funeral at Kings Chapel Seventh-day Adventist Church on Windward Road in Kingston, killing two people and injuring seven others.

The victims were attending the funeral for Romain Anthony White, 30, when gunshots rang out.

The gunmen reportedly travelled in cars and on motor bikes.

Mourners reportedly managed to corner one of the attackers and rained blows on him.

He was, however, rescued by the police and has been taken to the KPH where he is in their custody.

White, a higgler, was stabbed to death more than a month ago on Beckford Street in downtown Kingston in a dispute over a parking space.

Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) Errol Greene said two of the victims were taken into surgery and the others were being treated in the accident and emergency area.

Meanwhile, Senior Medical Officer at the KPH, Dr Natalie Whylie said the incident resulted in additional surgeons and nurses being summoned for duty.

In addition, Whylie said four emergency theatres had to be opened.

"Usually on a weekend we have one emergency theatre that's open. We had to open four to ensure that the hospital can respond to what is taking place," she said.

"We have also mobilised the emergency laboratory services because we need additional resources, including blood," Whylie added.

A woman, Sudan Anderson, is claiming that her 20-year-old niece who was killed in the shooting incident at a funeral at King's Chapel Seventh-day Adventist Church, in east Kingston on Sunday, was being unfairly targeted.

The shooting left at least two persons dead and another seven nursing gunshot wounds.

The Gleaner is reporting that Anderson says her relative, Ashley Hopson, was threatened by gangsters from another area who previously had had a falling out with one of Hopson's deceased family members.

"There is some friction between Charles Street and Matthews Lane. I think she was targeted because she and three youth stand up and di three a dem get shot as well. We had a family who died sometime ago by the name of Demar James. He was a gangster. Tru dat now, is like dem just target anybody from the family. Ashley was loving, caring and have manners. The only thing people can say is that she act like a boy," Anderson said.

The funeral Hopson was attending was that of Romain White, who was stabbed to death by another man, allegedly over a spot where he sold goods in downtown Kingston, just under a month ago.

starface.jpgAfter being embroiled in a verbal spat with fellow entertainer Spice earlier this year, recording artiste Starface says she is turning a new page in her musical career and consider events of the past to be a closed chapter.

The emerging star whose given name is Nadesha Edwards admits she has made some missteps on her journey but explained that it was partially due to misguided advise from former members of her team. Not wanting to debase anyone, in particular, she says the faux pas serves as a lesson not to be repeated and holds no enmity against anyone.

"It's important to be an optimist, hence I try to take the positives from situations of the past instead of dwelling on negativity. Right now I think it's these negative things that are holding back a lot of us as females and especially as artistes in a male-dominated industry." - she added.

Armed with a revamped management team spearheaded by Konsequence Muzik, Starface says she is ready for everything that the new year has to offer. The Denham Town native adds that as part of her rebranding exercise fans can expect more diversity in her music going forward.

"I just released a new single and video on Vevo titled 'Focus' a very uplifting song that many persons, especially from the inner-cities, can relate to. Other productions doing well in the space include 'No Free Love' a very energetic anthem for the ladies and 'Oh Yeah', a collaboration with Latin American based dancehall star Eshconinco."

With aspirations of becoming a global superstar, Starface says music is not just a job but a way of life for her. Hence a lot, though not all of her music comes from a personal place. A philanthropist at heart, Starface notes that her drive to succeed is not merely for personal gratification but also to assist in nation building and rendering aid to many of the displaced and disenfranchised within our society.

Filled with ebullience and some potent lyrics Starface is very optimistic about attaining her goals and wants not only to break new boundaries for the genre but also to be a positive voice of change for women in the industry.

Probe into 119 guns moves to MoBay

guns-photo-1.jpgThe two barrels that were intercepted in the United States (US) last month with an arsenal of 119 guns and more than 200 rounds of ammunition destined for Jamaica were repackaged with other goods and allowed to continue to Montego Bay, Jamaican law enforcement sources have revealed.

According to one source, the move was part of a covert attempt by American law enforcement operatives to apprehend persons linked to the shipment.

The source revealed that the barrels had been under the watchful eyes of American law enforcement agents and personnel from Jamaica's Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime (C-TOC) division since they arrived in Montego Bay last month.

However, it's reported that no one has come forward to collect them.

Assistant Commissioner Fitz Bailey, who heads C-TOC, declined to comment when contacted today. "I have no comment on that matter," Bailey told The Gleaner.

After days of surveillance, law enforcement insiders said the joint team moved in last evening and retrieved the barrels.

It's reported, too, that investigators collected forensic and other evidence they believe can lead them to the persons connected to the shipment.

guns-photo-1.jpgJamaica's security forces are being warned that they will continue to face the onslaught of illegal guns entering the island, because of the posture of the United States in relation to gun ownership.

Keith 'Trinity' Gardner' a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, is arguing that the plethora of guns in the US will always provide a consistent supply to Jamaica.

His comments are in reaction to the seizure of a huge shipment of illegal guns and ammunition in Miami destined for Jamaica.

The US authorities intercepted 117 illegal guns last month at Miami International Airport.

The issue of illegal guns shipped from the US has been a longstanding one, and a big factor is the ease of ownership in that country.

Mr Gardner, speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines, noted that, despite mounting evidence that gun ownership policies need changing, the right to bear arms overrides these concerns.

This means local authorities will have to continue to work hard to stop or minimise the importation of these weapons, he said.

US now recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital

donald-trump-photo-3.jpgPresident Donald Trump has announced that the US now recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital, overturning decades of official US policy.

Mr Trump described the move as "a long overdue step" to advance the Middle East peace process.

The president said the US would support a two-state solution, if approved by both the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responded to the decision by saying the US could no longer be a peace broker.

He earlier warned of "dangerous consequences" through a spokesman.

Latest updates

Speaking at the White House, Mr Trump said he had "judged this course of action to be in the best interests of the United States of America, and the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians".

The president said he was directing the US state department to begin preparations to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was a historic day, and Israel was profoundly grateful to President Trump. Jerusalem contains sites sacred to the three major monotheistic faiths.

East Jerusalem, which includes the Old City, was annexed by Israel after the Six Day War of 1967, but is not internationally recognised as part of Israel.

The US decision comes despite vocal opposition in the Muslim world, even among US allies.

But moving the embassy fulfils a campaign promise and appeals to Mr Trump's right-wing base.

Recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital was "nothing more or less than a recognition of reality", the president said.

"It is also the right thing to do," he added.

"Sting was a no-brainer. He and I had done a song together and we have been friends for a long time. We were doing some work here and there and I just said: 'How about coming to Jamaica?' And I will tell you a crazy story right now. Every Breath You Take, which is Sting's biggest song, was written right here in Jamaica... at Golden Eye. A lot a people don't know that. Jamaica holds a very dear place in his heart. It will be his first time performing here... so a real no-brainer. As far as Wyclef is concerned... Clef is almost Jamaican, so it was easy. Clef and I have had a great relationship for years. Fetty and I see each other here and there and a mutual contact told him about the concert. He just came and check me out and said I will be there for that," Shaggy is quoted as saying.

"I am deeply touched by the outpouring of love from all sectors of the society," Boyne is quoted as saying in the release, as he was updated on the concern expressed by Jamaicans at home and abroad on social media and through calls to JIS and radio stations.

The release said he was told that churches everywhere were in prayer for his recovery.

"I am grateful to God. I am a miracle," he added as he reflected on the frightening experience.

Boyne stated that he has been seeing his doctors regularly and paying attention to his diet and exercise routine, and encourages everyone to do the same, the release said.

"And I am deeply moved to know that I am loved and appreciated by my colleagues, especially at JIS and in the media. Tell them I shall be back and doing more programmes and writing more articles in the near future with God's help," the veteran journalist said while asking the JIS to assure everyone that he is doing well

george-nooks-image-1.jpgReggae singer George Nooks had his case was rescheduled to March 27, 2018 when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half-Way-Tree yesterday.

Nooks had his bail extended on his possession of cocaine charge.

Reports are that the judge, Judge Vaughn Smith advised Nooks's attorney, Donahue Martin, that the case should be tried in the Drug Treatment Court. However, Martin said his team is opposed to this move.

Martin also received the judge's approval to review the Duhaney Park Police Station's narcotics and crime diaries from the period May 4 -- 10, 2017. According to the attorney, this request will allow the defence to review the documented events surrounding the case.

Nooks is also being represented by Queen's Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson.

The case has already seen two hearings -- May 17 and July 21.

obama-and-kids-tweet.jpgTwitter may be considered President Donald Trump's domain, but it is actually his predecessor who appears to be better at leveraging the platform -- and with less effort.

Former President Barack Obama's tweet reacting to racist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August was the most-liked tweet of 2017 and in Twitter history, according to Twitter's year-in-review, released on Tuesday. The tweet, sent from Obama's personal @BarackObama account, quotes Nelson Mandela's 1994 autobiography: "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion..." It was also the second-most retweeted tweet of the year. (The most retweeted was about chicken nuggets.)

Trump was the year's most tweeted-about world leader and most frequently mentioned US elected official, but none of his individual tweets broke through among the most-liked or most-retweeted messages.

Another tweet from Obama reacting to Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) brain cancer diagnosis in July was the third most liked tweet of the year, behind a message from pop singer Ariana Grande:

And two more of Obama's tweets from the end of his term, from the @POTUS44 account archive of his Twitter activity as president, were also among 2017's most retweeted messages.

@POTUS44

Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe--not in my ability to create change, but in yours. 11:52 PM - Jan 10, 2017

@POTUS44

It's been the honor of my life to serve you. You made me a better leader and a better man.

junior-gong-photo-3.jpgOlivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender Entertainment and Sport, has congratulated Damian Marley for winning the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Reggae Act.

Miss Grange said, "this outstanding member of the talented Marley clan is on a roll, having just been nominated in the Best Reggae Album category of the Grammy Awards and now winning the MOBO Award. It really feels special to say "back-to-back" congratulations to him.

The Minister said she was also proud of Chronixx, Aidonia, Alkaline, and Popcaan who were other Jamaican artistes vying for the MOBO Award. She said their credentials qualified all of them to enter but there could only be one winner.

The MOBO Awards, established in 1996, is held in the United Kingdom annually to recognise artistes of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music.

Since its inception, the MOBO Awards has become one of Europe's biggest and most influential music award ceremonies, celebrating excellence in black music in the UK and internationally for more than 20 years in the musical forms of hip-hop, grime, RnB, soul, Reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music.

The MOBO Awards are seen as a UK equivalent to the BET Awards and Soul Train Awards in the United States.

There was news last week that both Marley and Chronixx were among the five acts nominated for the Grammy in the Best Reggae Album Category.

The winner will be announced next January.

golden-crust-hawthorne.jpgNew York-based Jamaican businessman Lowell Hawthorne reportedly committed suicide amid fears over millions of US dollars in tax debt.

The owner of the Golden Krust restaurant chain who committed suicide in his Bronx factory was deep in tax debt and was being sued by a former staffer for thousands in lost wages, court records show.

Lowell Hawthorne was "worried" about the liens, which included more than $150,000 in city taxes on the company's buildings, a police source said.

Authorities also said they discovered a note that Hawthorne left before he shot himself in the head Saturday afternoon. They did not disclose what he wrote.

In addition to Hawthorne's tax issues, a former maintenance staffer was suing him in Manhattan Federal Court. Onetime employee Robert Wray said he was never paid for the overtime he worked during his 11-year tenure. The beloved Golden Krust boss died after shooting himself in the head on Saturday at his Bronx, New York factory. Wray's May 8 lawsuit contends more than 100 other Golden Krust staffers were similarly stiffed on OT.

The case -- which seeks class-action status -- is pending.

Hawthorne's popular restaurant chain did not outwardly appear to be struggling while allegedly cutting corners as it served up meat patties, jerk treats and pastries.

In fact, he boasted about expanding the "McDonald's of the Caribbean" during an episode of CBS' "Undercover Boss" in May 2016.

"By 2020, all Americans we expect to be eating Golden Krust patties," he said.

Hawthorne, 57, shot himself inside the firm's Claremont factory at about 5:30 p.m., police sources said.

Some of his staffers said they suspected something was wrong when they saw his silver Tesla 85D parked oddly outside the factory, straddling two lanes.

On Sunday, friends and relatives were struggling to understand the suicide.

"Does not make any sense whatsoever," said Pat Russo, who worked with Hawthorne and his brother since the 1990s. "The one thing I learned a long time ago: You just don't know what you think you know."

Hawthorne's death hit the city hard.

"We are shocked and saddened by the death of Lowell Hawthorne," tweeted Mayor de Blasio. "Our prayers are with his family and his loved ones."

"The legacy of Lowell Hawthorne will live on," tweeted Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette Clarke. "I admire him greatly for bringing our shared love for Jamaican culture to life on a larger scale through food and fellowship."

Hawthorne came to the U.S. from Jamaica when he was 21. With the financial help of family, he opened his first Golden Krust store on E. Gun Hill Road in 1989.

There are now 120 stores in nine states, supplying more than 18,000 dollar stores and supermarkets.

In a Twitter message on Saturday, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness offered his condolences to Hawthorn's family and employees.

Jamaican is key IS recruiter says the US

is-recruiter.jpg(AFP) - The US Treasury Tuesday placed a Jamaica-based Islamic cleric on its terror blacklist, calling him a key recruiter for the Islamic State group and a propagandist who inspired numerous notorious jihadist attacks.

The Treasury placed Abdullah Ibrahim al-Faisal on its "specially designated global terrorist" sanctions blacklist, saying he helped Islamic State recruits travel to IS-controlled territory and was trusted by the jihadist group to vouch for potential recruits.

In addition, according to the Treasury, he "has directly or indirectly influenced numerous terrorists" including, they said, attacks stretching back to the attempt by Richard Reid to blow up an American Airlines flight headed to Miami in December 2001 with explosives hidden in his shoes.

Faisal, 54, is currently under arrest in Jamaica and facing extradition to the United States.

Born in Jamaica under the name Trevor Forrest, he is linked to the jihadist group Authentic Tauheed, which is aligned with Islamic State, according to the Counter Extremism Project.

He was an imam in London's Brixton district and was convicted in 2003 of soliciting murder and inciting racial hatred, spending four years in prison before being released and expelled to Jamaica.

After that he also spent time in Africa and has a base of support in Kenya, according to the Counter Extremism Project. Several people died in protests in support of Faisal in January 2010 when the Kenyan government moved to expel him from the country.

And instead of being nice to the couple, the trolls have come out in their numbers and are doing what they do best - being critical. Their problem is that the girlfriend looks older than Pine and they are making a big deal out of it.

While the Portmore-based internet comedian, real name K'Vonne Legore is yet to confirm the reports, social media has been buzzing after photos from a baby shower surfaced online earlier this week.

lisa-hanna-and-richard.jpgWedding bells will be ringing in a few days for local power couple beauty queen Lisa Hanna and her slightly older fiancee, businessman Richard Lake.

The former Miss World who is now a Member of Parliament and her 63-year-old long-time beau are set to tie the knot over the weekend at an ultra private ceremony in Kingston.

The big day for 42-year-old Hanna comes just weeks after she she went shopping for her wedding dress in New York. The Miss World 1993 winner announced her engagement last year on social media with a photo of herself showing off a ring, "Yes I said Yes!," she wrote.

This will be Lisa Hanna's second marriage. She previously tied the knot with businessman David Panton in 1999 however filed for divorce back in 2004. They couple share a teenage son together. Lake was also married before.

matt-lauer-fired.jpgMatt Lauer was fired from NBC News on Wednesday after an employee filed a complaint about "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace," the network announced.

Savannah Guthrie made the announcement at the top of the "Today" show. Lauer has been the cornerstone of the program, one of the most profitable franchises on television, for two decades.

NBC News chairman Andrew Lack said in a memo to staff that it was the first complaint lodged against Lauer in his career at the network. But he said "we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."

Lauer was not immediately reachable for comment. An NBC News spokeswoman declined to comment about the details of the allegation against him.

Reporters for The New York Times had been investigating Lauer for several weeks, according to sources who had been contacted by the Times.

Lauer is the latest high-profile man in media to be brought down by allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. Just last week, CBS News fired one of its own morning anchors, Charlie Rose, after a report in The Washington Post chronicled years of sexual misconduct.

The torrent began when The New York Times and The New Yorker reported on allegations against the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Since then, actors Kevin Spacey and Louis C.K. have been suspended or removed from projects after allegations against them became public. And other prominent journalists, including Mark Halperin of NBC and Michael Oreskes of NPR, have been fired or suspended from their jobs.

The firing of Lauer removes one of the most recognizable personalities on television, and at a time when morning news programs are increasingly important to network news divisions.

mikhail-morris-judy-madaraz-dancehall-uni.jpgJamaica-born, Vancouver-based dancer and choreographer, Mikhail Morris, has embarked on a new venture - he's teaching a new course on Jamaican dancehall--the first time for this style of dance to be taught as part of a university program--at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

Morris, 28, is teaching "FPA 120: Introduction to Dance Forms: Contemporary and Popular Subject: Dancehall History and Fundamentals", at the Vancouver campus.

The course is a combination of theory and dance. Morris created the curriculum to teach the socio-historical factors that inspired the creation of reggae and dancehall music and culture.

Students attain a better understanding of Jamaican culture and living experiences expressed through the actual music and dance. Students learn and practice the dancehall dance steps and listen to the music to contextualize the lyrics, and concepts for the steps.

dancehall-at-canadian-uni.jpg

Using dancehall vocabulary as a foundation, Morris said he grew up around dancehall culture and has seen how people fought to celebrate it.

Often associated with "low-culture" due to historical political tensions in Jamaica, it has been a challenge for the dance to gain acceptance as a true and valid cultural art form. Thus, for SFU to have created an actual course that teaches the history and fundamentals of dancehall, is a huge step in the right direction. There are very few university institutions that have this kind of programming available for their students.

The history of Jamaica with its convergence of peoples from varied cultural background created a solid foundation for the emergence of dancehall; dance and music. This same history has also made it possible for dancehall to extend its boundaries beyond the small island state of Jamaica to the rest of the world.

SFU offers Jamaican Dancehall, Hip Hop, and Bhangra in the three Vancouver/BC Lower Mainland campuses. These three cultural forms reflect the growing interest that students have in alternate dance techniques. (Source: SFU website)

sunday-closed.jpgRecent events in Poland shouldn't come as a surprise to Seventh-day Adventists who have long been telling the world about "last day" events, one of which will be a Sunday Law, which many believe is the Mark of the Beast spoken about in the book of Revelation.

Despite the fact that nowhere in the Holy Bible does it state that Sunday is the day of rest, Polish lawmakers voted on Friday, November 24, 2017, to officially declare Sunday as a day of rest by slowly phasing out Sunday shopping by 2020.

According to reports by the Associated Press (AP) and other respectable media outlets, the bill, which was backed by the powerful trade unions and the Roman CAtholic Church, passed with a vote of 254 to 156. The Catholic bishops, however, are still not satisfied and are insisting on a full Sunday ban. The Associated Press states that "Poland's influential Roman Catholic bishops said in a statement they were not fully satisfied and insisted that all Sundays should be free from work for everyone."

The bill is expected to pass the Polish Senate and will be signed into law by the country's president.

Poland, a country of 38 million, is said to be predominately Catholic. This is the same religion which takes dubious credit for interfering with the fourth commandment which says "REMEMBER the Sabbath day to keep it holy...in six days the Lord made heaven and earth and rested on the seventh day." The seventh day Sabbath of the bible is Saturday, not Sunday. It was the Roman Catholic Church which arrogantly and without any authority, admits that they "Transferred the solemnity of the Sabbath from the seventh day of the week - Saturday - to the first day of the week, Sunday."

One article online notes that ..."The Old Testament teaches that Saturday is a day of rest since God rested on the seventh day after creating the world. Sunday, the first day of the week, became the Catholic "seventh day" and a day of rest after the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on Sunday."

However, the same New Testament also teaches that Jesus, when he was here on earth "as his custom was" went into the synagogue on the Sabbath, the seventh day of the week. Nowhere in the New Testament does it say that, having risen on the Sunday he then declared it a day of worship. As a matter of fact, the true meaning of Jesus rising on Sunday, meant that even in death he kept the Sabbath holy by resting in the grave on Saturday, the Sabbath, and then rising on the Sunday.

Reports are that according to the new law, from March 1 to December 31, 2018, stores will be open on the first and last Sundays of the month only. In 2019, stores will only be open on the last Sunday of the month. Then in 2020, most retail establishments will be closed in the country on all but eight Sundays.

Interestingly, while many are lauding this move and welcome it as a day of rest and family, some comments have taken the lawmakers to task.

According to one person who commented online:

According to another: "You'd be hard pressed to prove that we don't have to obey the 4th commandment which tells us to not do any of our work on the 7th day of the week. Which commandment asks us to pick whichever day we want?

And, going in depth, another critic added: "And that leaves us with Paul. But even he said in Romans: "by the law is the knowledge of sin," and, "shall we continue in sin ...? God forbid," and "Do we make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." Clearly, according to Paul, picking some other day than the one Jesus blessed and sanctified at creation would be sin, and Christians aren't supposed to sin.

However, today we tend to look at Paul's writings through the glasses of our culture and traditions, and sometimes we therefore read into Paul's writings things he never intended. For example, Paul in Rom. 14 talks about honoring or not honoring some sort of day, and folks often conclude that he was talking about the weekly Sabbath, when Rom. 14 nowhere says that that's what he was talking about. And wouldn't it be odd for him to contradict himself in the very same book, saying that the law defines sin in one place, Christians shouldn't sin in another place, and it's all right to break the 4th commandment in yet another place?

It is more reasonable to conclude that Paul in Rom. 14 was referring to Jewish feast days and annual sabbaths described in Lev. 23, which fell on different days of the week from year to year. Then we aren't making Paul contradict himself."

Please do not become complacent in your faith, merely waiting for the Sunday law to be enforced. We NEED to have a DAILY relationship with Jesus Christ in order to get through the time of trouble that is coming. Are you living for Christ everyday?

Revelation 12:11 ...'And they overcame him by the blood of the lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto death.' ... These are powerful words and they describe the TRUE people of God. Who are they? They are the ones who trust in the blood of Jesus, and by the word of their testimony, SHOW that their lives were totally devoted to God. And as Revelation 14:12 says, they (the saints) are the ones who keep the faith OF Jesus. They don't just have faith 'IN' Jesus, they keep the faith OF Christ. In other words, the faith, character and life of Jesus is actively being LIVED OUT in their lives. Does this describe you? Are you covered by CHRIST AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS?

lowell-hawthorne-caribbean-bakery.jpgThe Diaspora and Jamaicans at home are reeling from the shock suicide of founder and CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill Lowell Hawthorne. Police sources say 57-year-old Hawthorne killed himself inside his Bronx factory Saturday.

Hawthorne reportedly shot himself with two bullets to the head, while inside the Park Ave. building near E. 173rd St. in Claremont about 5:30 p.m.

Tributes have since been pouring in for a man who was loved by many, not least of all his loyal workers, who cried openly and admitted that they are "shocked and saddened" at his untimely passing.

"He was a good boss, humble and a good businessman," said Pete Tee, 27, a former employee.

"He never seemed sad. This is just terrible news right now."

"He was a nice boss, a wonderful guy," said Woods, an employee since 2003. "He's the kind of guy you want to work for that long. He takes care of his employees."

"I didn't believe the news when I heard it at first," Woods added. "I don't know if the pressure of running the business was too much, but I'm shocked

Meanwhile, there are some persons who simply refuse tp believe that a man like Hawthorne would commit suicide and have been quick to put forward a conspiracy theory.

"If he was a Jamaican citizen, the Jamaican government should get involved. Jamaican police should get involved in the investigation ASAP. I don't believe that he killed himself. I Don't believe it for 1 second."

"THIS STORY MUST COME WITH A SLANT - JAMAICANS are fighters no matter what I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING COMING OUT OF AMERIKKKA, i will not say rip'' until the truth comes out."

Hawthorne opened the first Golden Krust store on E. Gun Hill Rd. in 1989 and built the Jamaica beef patty company into a national empire boasting more than 120 restaurants across the U.S.

It also produces more than 50 million patties a year for retail stores and supplies them to about 20,000 outlets, according to The New York Times.

The opposition People's National Party (PNP) says that in light of revelations of misuse of public funds and breaches of government procurement guidelines at Wednesday's meeting of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee of House of Representatives, Prime Minister Andrew Holness must "immediately address these serious and profound issues of poor accountability and probity within the government."

In a statement this afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips, said that the prime minister must urgently call for a forensic audit of the payments made by the National Security Ministry under the $426.9 million contract with a motor vehicle sales company and account to the country for the $213 million which was reported to have already been paid as deposit to the company for the provision of 200 used vehicles for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The Opposition leader is also seeking the intervention of the Contractor General and the Auditor General in light of what he said appears to be "clear breaches of the government procurement guidelines, the repeated failure of the Minister of National Security to answer questions put to him in Parliament, and his gross dereliction of his duties as a minister."

He said this has led to failed policies which are causing the police to face an increase in violent crime and murder without adequate resources to address it.

Dr Phillips said the prime minister should immediately relieve the National Security Minister Robert Montague of his duties, if the country is to have any confidence in the government's determination and ability to fight crime.

"The country has now paid out $213 million to a contractor and yet has only 30 used Toyota Axio cars, which do not meet JCF specifications, to show for it. Where has the money gone?" Dr Phillips queried.

Gibbon's father described as her as having a heart of gold. He said that everyone loved his daughter.

"She had to have been lured from that hotel because she had nothing on her," her father said.

Her mother, Andrea Gibbon, said her daughter made friends on the island. She insisted that she would never go out at night alone.

Gibbon's body was discovered with her throat slashed in bushes near the Long Hill main road in St James last Saturday morning.

The elder Gibbon said the family found out about her daughter's death after authorities showed a photo to her uncle, who owns a hotel in Montego Bay.

Gibbon arrived to the country back in October with a three month visa.

Her body was spotted by the horrified residents in the bushes.

Police identified Gibbon after showing her photograph to hotel officials in the area where they thought she may have been staying, according to the New York Daily News.

Grief-stricken family members to Gibbon were at a total loss for words about what may have happened.

'It has to have been a complete stranger. Desiree had a heart of gold, everybody loved her. Everything hurts. It's hard to breathe,' aunt Peggy Brunner told the Daily News.

Parents and relatives created a GoFundMe page to aid in transportation of her body back to the United States as well as funeral costs.

'My heart is truly broken!!! I asking you all to please help me and my sister at this very difficult and heartbreaking time,' her sister wrote to the page.

'My niece was murdered in Jamaica very brutally and we need to get her home as soon as possible!!!! Please help!!!! Thank-you all!!!!,' her aunt added.

Boyne was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after falling ill and news came later that he had suffered multiple heart attacks and was in a coma.

@POTUS44

Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe--not in my ability to create change, but in yours. 11:52 PM - Jan 10, 2017

@POTUS44

Thank-you all!!!!,' her aunt added.

guns-photo-1.jpgPolice this week searched the house of the woman who has been detained in connection with last month's massive gun bust in Miami, Florida. Detectives from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime branch (C-TOC) also searched several of her relatives' homes in Montego Bay, St James as the probe into the massive gun and ammo find intensified.

On Monday, the woman surrendered to C-TOC branch on Orange Street in Kingston approximately 9:00 am. She was subsequently detained on reasonable suspicion of conspiracy to import guns and ammunition.

Her detention came on the heels of the 119 guns and 267 rounds of ammunition seized at Miami Airport in Florida on November 13.

Therefore, come January 6, 2018 at Jamaica House, there will be a shindig like never before when international acts Sting, Fetty Wap and Wyclef Jean, join our homegrown international acts Christopher Martin, Aidonia, Dexta Daps, Junior Reid, Shenseea, Barrington Levy, Third World, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Capleton, Professor Nuts, and Wayne Wonder, along with Trinidadians Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin, for the sixth renewal of Shaggy & Friends.

In commenting on the three top acts, Shaggy said that this year he "got lucky".

@POTUS44

Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe--not in my ability to create change, but in yours. 11:52 PM - Jan 10, 2017

@POTUS44

Where has the money gone?" Dr Phillips queried.

desiree-gibbon-photo-1.jpgdesiree-gibbon-found-dead-in-jamaica.jpgA New York model seeking work in Jamaica was found dead on the side of a road with her throat slashed.

Desiree Gibbon, 26, from Queens, was found by locals bloodied and lifeless a few miles from Montego Bay on the Caribbean island's north coast on Sunday

According to foreign media reports, Gibbon, who had Jamaican roots, had travelled to the island on October 20, and obtained a permit to stay in the country for three months.
