donald-trump-photo-4.jpgIt holds nuclear missile codes, it's in charge of the security of the United States, and its ultimate boss, the US president, is a prolific tweeter. But when it comes to handling its own Twitter account, the Pentagon could do with improving its skills.

On Thursday the US Department of Defense accidentally retweeted a tweet calling for Donald Trump to resign as US president.

The original tweet which also called for two other US politicians to step down following sexual harassment allegations was tweeted from an account belonging to @ProudResister, an anti-Trump activist.

It said: "The solution is simple. Roy Moore: Step down from the race. Al Franken: Resign from congress, Donald Trump: Resign from the presidency. GOP: Stop making sexual assault a partisan issue. It's a crime as is your hypocrisy."

The Pentagon's main account retweeted the message to its 5.2 million followers before quickly deleting it. But the embarrassing blunder did not go unnoticed. A screen shot of the Pentagon's retweet was itself retweeted and shared, and the reaction to it was swift.

"Uh someone made a mistake," posted one Twitter user.

Another user tweeted: "Looks like that ex-Twitter employee found a new gig at the Pentagon," referring to a similar social media blunder earlier this month when a Twitter employee deactivated President Trump's account on their last day in the job.

At the time, the president brushed off the 11-minute Twitter outage, but the incident raised questions about the security of President Trump's account.

He called for a huge turnout in street protests on Saturday.

Colin Kaepernick is GQ's 'Citizen of the Year'

colin-kaepernick-gq-magazine.jpgColin Kaepernick, an American football player who last year started protesting police brutality against African Americans by kneeling during the US national anthem, has been named "Citizen of the Year" by GQ magazine.

The public stand of the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has sparked a wave of similar protests across the National Football League and other athletic events.

Announcing its decision on Monday, GQ likened Kaepernick to other sports icons, including boxer Muhammad Ali, who opposed the Vietnam War.

"He's been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL - all because he took a knee to protest police brutality," the magazine said of Kaepernick's protest. Kaepernick's determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson - athletes who risked everything to make a difference," it said.

Kaepernick declined to be interviewed by GQ but posed for pictures. He posted a message on Twitter, saying he was "honored' by the recognition.

Eve spills on Nicki Minaj's racy Paper cover

nicki-minaj-paper.jpgRapper Eve just landed her new gig on 'The Talk,' and is already making waves via the daytime talk show.

The hosts all weighed in on Nicki Minaj's risqué Paper Magazine cover, featuring the Queens native engaged in a menage a trois with herself.

Eve, who has worked with Nicki on set and is also a fellow MC, revealed she was not a fan of the controversial pics.

"I worked with Nicki, I got to know her on 'Barbershop'... she's a nice person, she's an amazing rapper, and as a lyricist I respect her... but as a woman, from my point of view, personally, I would not be able to do that," Eve told the audience.

"I think in this climate, it's not good. I think every artist has a right to express themselves however they want to express themselves and I respect that as well. For me personally, as I started coming up in the business, I started realizing that young girls were looking up to me and younger people were looking up to me, and that, not that you want to be a role model, but it becomes what you become, it is what you are."

nicki-minaj-paper-magazine.jpg

Continuing, "As I've gotten older ... I'd just rather be a voice that's uplifting... I can be a voice for those girls that might not have a voice, in a different way without showing myself off ... For the Nicki fans, I love her, respect her. Go women in hip hop. It's not my thing. I just don't think it's right. Personally. Period. That's it."

Nicki's devoted fan base immediately took to Twitter to defend the Queen of the Barbs, claiming Eve's judgmental stance was hypocritical.

"Eve is full of s--t. Instead of shaming Nicki Minaj for owning her sexuality as a GROWN woman she could have used that opportunity to talk more about the success of a fellow Black female rapper."

Edith Dalton James High is among five schools to receive a walk-through metal detector as well as a number of handheld devices.

The announcement was made by Education Minister Ruel Reid on Wednesday afternoon at a ceremony during which 130 handheld metal scanners and five walk-through detectors were handed over by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Edith Dalton James High will install the walk-through scanner at the entrance to the school this month.

This comes a month after a 15 year-old male student was stabbed to death by a classmate at the school.

Senator Reid, who addressed the ceremony, noted that the government was determined to ensure that there was no recurrence of the incident at the school or any other institution.

"When we did our investigation, the youngster in question had about two or three weapons on his person, and had he been through that kind of surveillance, then they would have been detected and he would have been disarmed," said the minister.

He added that the initiative was a sort of resocialisation in the school system to combat the "high levels of anti-social behaviour and violence across the country."

Other schools to receive walk-through metal detectors are Brown's Town High, Anchovy High and Norman Manley High.

crime-scene-tape.jpgJust over two weeks after gangster Omar 'King Evil' Lewis was killed in their community, residents of Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, were exposed to more extreme violence on Monday night when two women were murdered and a man seriously injured in a brazen gun attack.

The deceased women are 41-year-old Cleopatra 'Keisha' Fletcher, a popular nail technician; and her 52-year-old customer, Dawnette Shettleworth, an employee at the Sangster International Airport. The injured man is a 43-year-old JUTA operator.

According to reports, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Fletcher, Shettleworth and the injured man were sitting in Fletcher's salon when an unknown assailant walked into the establishment, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and opened fire. All three persons were hit.

"De man just walk inna de woman and open up gunfire and then run off," recounted a witness, who said the killer wore a hoodie that blocked a clear view of his face. "By the time people rush inna de salon fe help, de woman dead already."

On the night of Wednesday, October 25, when Lewis was killed, he had reportedly gone to that same salon to have his nails done. He was attacked by unknown assailants as he entered his car and was sprayed with a barrage of bullets. He died on the spot.

"Ever since that man (Lewis) was killed, I told myself that I would not be going back to that salon, because I just had a gut feeling that something else was going to happen over there," a female resident told The Gleaner yesterday. "We are all living on the edge here in MoBay because we are all like sitting duck for the gunmen."

While the police have not divulged a motive for Monday night's killing, speculation is rife in the western city that it had something to do with the death of Lewis, who the police said was the leader of the Canterbury-based Nation Crocs gang. At different times in his life, Lewis figured on the police's most wanted list both here in Jamaica and in the United States.

"Rumour a go round seh Keisha know a who kill Omar, so it look like dem decide fe silence her," another resident told The Gleaner. "Keisha a good girl ... hard-working girl ... . She tek pride inna her work so her customer dem love her. It is sad fe see how she just lose her life soh."

Dawnette Shettleworth, apparently, was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The former Mt Salem resident was reportedly off the island at the time of Omar 'King Evil' Lewis' death and wouldn't have been a witness to it.

"Poor Dawnette ... always smiling, don't trouble a soul, and look how she just dead and gone," one of her co-workers told The Gleaner. "Every day or every other day somebody get killed inna MoBay. Me feel like just resign my job and run weh. Me fraid fe walk de streets."

shocked.jpgReports have surfaced that criminals are posing as members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and robbing individuals.

The police are now urging the public to be on the lookout as the men are dressed in fake police clothing and travel in a vehicle with flashing blue lights.

The most recent reported incident occurred Saturday night along East Kings House Road in St Andrew where the men stopped a businessman near the entrance to the Kingsgate Apartments.

He was robbed of a large amount of cash and his licensed firearm.

Head of the JCF Corporate Communications Unit, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay said that the victim was approached by two men in a car, who said they were police officers.

They demanded a search of the man's vehicle and he was relieved of his firearm and over one million dollars.

"We are conducting investigations; we have confirmed that these men were not police officers. We are following leads at the moment," Lindsay said as she urged people to be on alert for the fake cops.

"When you are stopped, you need to be 100 per cent sure that persons are in fact police officers and demand to see some form of identification," she advised.

"If they are in a vehicle marked police, call 119 to verify," Lindsay added.

It's Goosebumps from former ARP member Mitch

Webmin

mitch.jpgArmed with a new single, new management and a renewed focus and strategy, Roger Mitchell is once again fully ready to claim his musical space, with the release of his recent single, Goosebumps, an upbeat collaboration with artiste Dolla Coin.

Working harmoniously with Emperor Productions, this singer-songwriter, whose style has been described as "melodious and edgy", blends these elements nicely into Goosebumps, making it a truly infectious single. Noting that the collab has been receiving rave feedback, both from radio and in the streets, the artiste revealed that an accompanying music video is in the works, along with another soon-to-be-released single.

This former member of the now defunct but popular reggae group, ARP, found fame with the outfit in the late nineties into early 2000, and even after ARP disbanded, he continued singing. Better known to his fans simply as Mitch, he explains that this is the name he still uses for his solo career.

"Mitch will always be Mitch and of course, some people will continue to say 'Mitch from ARP', but that just shows the power of the group," he says candidly.

Although to some it may seem that Mitch had taken a hiatus from the music scene, he was quick to point out that this was not so.

"Believe it or not I have always been doing music...never stopped. I have been voicing for various producers and getting a lot of promises, but the truth is that nothing happens before the right time and I believe that the time is now," he declared, acknowledging the exceptional efforts of his "family" at Emperor Productions to ensure that everything falls into place.

Not surprisingly, in the last five years Mitch has been frequenting Europe and he has spent extended periods on that continent, in particular, Denmark, where he had been working on an album project with talented Danish producers Søren "Pharfar" Schou and Adi 'Jahdil' Nadri at Food Palace Music in Copenhagen.

His third album, Lucky, was released on November 25 last year on Danish label, Icedrop Records and it is available on all digital platforms. According to Mitch, Lucky is an intoxicating mix of Reggae, Jazz Funk and African beats.

"Pharfar is the same producer who worked with late Danish reggae singer Natasja Saad, and it was really a great experience doing this album with him and Jahdil," Mitch explained.

Sorry, the first single from the 11-track album, is described as a "warm and sizzling reggae version of Justin Bieber's original" with the video being shot in Old Harbour.

According to their bio, it was in 1998 that ARP released the classic 'I Want Your Body', which established the group. A series of noteworthy hits followed including, 'Return Of The Mac', 'Girls Dem Cry', 'Song For Mama', 'Really Want You', 'The Girl Dem Want', a cover version of K-Ci And JoJo's 'All My Life', and a team up with Patra on 'True Love'. ARP also enjoyed particular success in the dancehall with, 'Di Gal Dem Want' and in combination with U.T. Dread 'Youths Dem Play', riding the 'Cloak & Dagger' rhythm. In 1999, the band joined Penthouse Records where they released 'Temple Of The Lord' and worked on an album with producer Donovan Germain.

bob-marley-photo-7.jpgBob Marley's Get Up, Stand Up is the theme song for Optimist International Caribbean District's (OICD) anti-bullying human rights campaign.

The campaign -- expected to run from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018 -- was launched at the Junior Optimist International Caribbean Summit at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in St Andrew last weekend.

In making the announcement, OICD Governor Calvin A Hunter said permission was granted for the Optimist Club to use the song free of cost by Marley's daughter Cedella Marley, who declared the initiative to be a "great one".

Hunter said the song was selected because the words would serve as an inspiration for those being bullied and who have a sense of hopelessness.

"We want to encourage young people across the Caribbean to become social advocates around human rights, with a focus on fighting discrimination and bullying that often take place within our schools," said Hunter.

Marley died in May 1981. He was 36.

grace-jones-interview-photo-1.jpgLegendary Jamaican-American singer Grace Jones is known for her quirkiness, and she didn't disappoint during a madcap appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

The superstar, 69, stunned the presenter when she suddenly leaped on to his desk, pretending to be a cat.

A wary Jonathan said he had been warned about Grace as an interviewee adding he was 'scared' of what the iconic performer would do.

He then asked her what people expect of her and she replied: 'I do the opposite of what everyone expect... They expect me to crawl on the table and do this.'

She then growled and playfully swiped at the host, appearing to imitate the infamous moment from a 1980 interview with Russell Harty where she slapped him live on air.

Jonathan laughed as Grace crawled around on the desk, before jumping back down on to the couch.

She then clutched her heart joking that it was 'too much' for her adding: 'I can't do that all the time I'm a grandmother now.'

The host responded: 'How do you think I feel, I nearly s*** myself.'

Viewers watching the ITV chat show at home were thrilled at the spontaneous moment, with one saying: 'Grace Jones being utterly incredible within 10 seconds.'

'Not listening to a word that is being said, just watching Grace Jones almost having a cardiac arrest on the sofa,' said a second.

Another viewer commented on the singer's appearance adding: 'Grace Jones defies the ageing process. She looks magnificent for a lady of senior years. Respect Mrs Jones.'

bermuda-premier-david-burt-photo-1.jpgPremier David Burt says he remains confident Bermuda's reputation will survive the fallout from the Paradise Papers.

In the House of Assembly on Friday, the Premier said "The reports of Bermuda's demise are greatly exaggerated" and called for a "chorus of unity" in the wake of recent revelations contained in the hacked documents.

Earlier this week, an expert in compliance rules told the Royal Gazette newspaper that the island is "up the creek without a paddle" after the massive leak of documents stolen in a cyberattack on Bermuda-headquartered law firm Appleby, which also has offices in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands.

The source, who asked not to be named, said: "This is actually really, really bad and it's bad because it demonstrates Bermuda's jurisdictional attitude to shifting public opinion and reality and the rather rigid line of legality."

Burt told MPs a co-ordinated police criminal investigation into the hack is underway in several jurisdictions, including Bermuda, and said he had asked regulators to step up their game.

Burt said his sole concern was "Bermuda and her reputation".

"I am confident that Bermuda's reputation will survive this latest series of events. Within the government, targeted action has been taken to manage the continuing impact of this disclosure. All relevant ministries are working together to coordinate responses as required, but more importantly to strengthen systems of oversight where necessary and communicating clearly that Bermuda is the same, sound place to do business it has always been. The depth and breadth of our energy and skill is such that we can meet this challenge, emerge stronger and continue the work of building a fairer and better Bermuda." kamina-johnson.jpgfloyd-morris.jpgThe People's National Party's Youth Organisation (PNPYO) is demanding an apology from Senator Kamina Johnson Smith to Senator Dr Floyd Morris for so-called disparaging remarks she made yesterday morning while addressing the Senate on the National Identification and Registration Bill.

Reports are that minutes before the start of the Senate, Morris was given several pages of amendments in writing that he was expected to peruse for discussion.

Morris, who is visually impaired, expressed difficulty and asked for an adjournment of the Senate to facilitate his participation in the debate. The Government senators voted against his request.

"As if this were not enough, the Senate majority leader, Kamina Johnson Smith, went further to mock Dr Morris, saying he would have just completed his PhD and autobiography and should therefore come into no difficulty understanding the amendments provided. This is a clear abandonment of the prior commitment she had made to Senate, during the debate on the Jury Act, to work with the parliamentary clerk to better facilitate disabled members," the PNPYO said in a release.

"This to us, is a disgraceful, calculated attack not only on Senator Floyd Morris, but also the disabled community of this country. the release said.

The PNPYO said Dr Morris's achievements showcase the key role our disabled community can and have played in governance.

duppy-film-marlon-perry.jpgPolice are keeping a close watch on sections of St Thomas following reports that Marlon 'Duppy Film' Perry, the man who was on Jamaica's most wanted list, is to be buried on Sunday.

Perry, who was on the police radar for approximately six years, was in September shot dead during a police operation in Port Morant, St Thomas.

"We are aware that the funeral for Perry is set for tomorrow and as a result we will be monitoring sections of the parish," Beau Rigabe, superintendent of the division told Loop News.

Police say they have not received any reports that criminals are planning possible attacks for the death of Perry but made it clear that they were are not taking anything for granted.

"We have put in place a number of security measures and will be keeping close watch on the area," police said.

Meanwhile a number of residents in the area say there is a tense calm in the area where Perry is to be buried.

"People just a hope say the funeral just come and go without any further incident," said one resident who asked not to be named out of fear.

Three guns, an AK-47 and two pistols, were recovered from the scene where he was cut down by authorities.

Before he was shot dead, Perry, topped the list of most wanted criminals in Jamaica, accused of murders, shootings, rapes and robberies committed in Kingston and St Thomas.

He was also wanted in connection to several murders including the killing of Corporal Kenneth Davis and Constable Craig Palmer.

On June 25, a $1.5 million JMD reward was offered for information leading to Perry's capture.

Several appeals were made to Perry, his associates and anyone able to provide information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Perry refused to turn himself in to the police and managed to evade several operations launched by the police and military to capture and arrest him.

ganja-image-5.jpgSoon-to-be legal recreational marijuana sales in Canada could bring up to C$1 billion (US$800 million) annually into government coffers, an official said Friday.

"If the market is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 400,000 kilos (440 tons)... then the tax impact of that would be somewhere in the neighbourhood of C$1 billion," said MP and former Toronto police chief Bill Blair, who has been tasked with overseeing the setup of the new regime.

"That's a very high estimate, in my opinion," he added, stressing that the actual size of the recreational pot market is not yet known.

Ottawa is scheduled to legalise cannabis next July after having already permitted its use for medical care.

One of the major considerations in the country's cannabis taxation policy is to keep costs low enough to undercut the illicit pot market.

The authorities have proposed a 10 per cent excise tax on marijuana in addition to applying sales taxes of up to 15 per cent, with amounts varying across jurisdictions.

The proceeds would be split with the provinces, which have announced a patchwork of public and private sector retail sales for cannabis.

A public school teacher in Georgia has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly threatening a student late last month, officials said.

A video taken from the classroom of the Rockdale Career Academy in Conyers shows the teacher telling a student not to "screw" with him, or he will "get in big-a-- trouble." It is not clear if the student he was allegedly speaking to can be seen in the video.

"Don't smile at me, man, OK? That's how people like you get shot," the teacher, who is white, told the student, who is black. "I got a bet. I bet by the time you're 21, somebody's gonna put a bullet right through your head. And it might be me -- the one that does it."

Students in the classroom are heard expressing shock at the teacher's statements.

The mother of the student that the teacher was allegedly speaking to posted the video to Facebook on Friday, saying that she was "outraged" that the incident occurred.

"You see these stories on the news never believing it will happen to your child," April Carr wrote on Facebook. "Well it happened to mine and we will get justice."

Teacher's aide fired after allegedly shoving student on video

Carr told ABC Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV that the physics teacher made the comments after her son and other students laughed as he wrote an equation on the board.

The teacher then walked over to Carr's son and began his rant, Carr told ABC News, adding that there was "no back and forth" or "disrespectful" banter between her son and his teacher.

"He's in a classroom of a majority African-American students, so for you to say 'you people,' it's an outright racist statement -- no covering it up," Carr said.

Carr said her son recently turned 17 and that she's had "plenty of conversations with him about how to conduct himself and how to act when he's out," which includes being "respectful at all times." He is in the gifted programme, takes multiple AP classes and is on the wrestling and football team for the school, Carr said.

Carr said that with "all the shootings" going on in the country, she "can't afford" to take the teacher's comments lightly.

"I have to take it as seriously as it sounded," she said.

Carr said that she believes the teacher should be fired.

"This is not OK, you know, for our educators and the people who parents send our kids to school to learn from," Carr said.

An incident report from the Rockdale County Sheriff's office identified the teacher as Paul Hagen. The incident was reported to authorities by Carr on Friday after she received a phone call from the school the previous day informing her of the incident. Carr learned of the video after speaking to her son, according to the incident report.

nicki-minaj-brother.jpgJelani Maraj, the brother of rapper Nicki Minaj, has been found guilty of predatory sexual assault.

Maraj, 38, was on trial for raping an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions at his Long Island home. He was charged with the crime in 2015 and found guilty at Nassau County court, New York, this week. Maraj faces the potential of 25 years to life in prison.

Neither Maraj nor his sister, whose birth name is Onika Tanya Maraj, testified in the trial. The child, now 14, and her younger brother testified. The defence lawyer claimed the allegations were fabricated by the child's mother in order to extort $25m (£19m) from Nicki Minaj.

James R Ray III, a civil attorney who briefly represented the mother, testified that he did demand a $25m legal settlement from Jelani Maraj after he had been arrested, but said the girl's mother was unaware of the demand.

"She was never involved as far as what we did," Ray III testified. The woman later fired him as her attorney.

Maraj is set to be sentenced on 14 December. His lawyer has said he will appeal the judgment.

chris-gayle-photo-7.jpgWest Indies cricket superstar Chris Gayle is seeking to cash in on a court case win against an Australian media group, promising a tell-all interview - but only if the price is right.

The all-rounder was accused by Fairfax Media, publisher of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, in a series of stories last year of exposing his penis to a massage therapist and indecently propositioning her.

"I have a very interested (sic) successful story to tell!! It can be an exclusive 60mins interview or y'all just have to wait on my next book!," he tweeted to his 3.75 million Twitter followers Friday.

"It's about what transpired in court and behind the scenes in Australia, how they went to bigger heads to get me ban...

Judge frees US woman duped by Jamaican lover

(AP) - An Upper Darby mother is a free woman, acquitted October 27 by jurors who believed she'd been duped by a Jamaican sweetheart when authorities at the Philadelphia International Airport found 9.2 pounds of cocaine in 10 cans of instant chocolate drink in her suitcase.

"I am still trying to recover," said Tiwanda White, 40, as she was joined by defense attorneys Enrique Latoison and Laura Laszewski at their Front Street law office as they rehashed the case that made for shocking headlines at the time of her arrest in May, 2016. "It has changed my life in almost every aspect."

A jury of eight women and four men deliberated about two hours Thursday, October 26, and about 10 minutes Friday morning, October 27, before returning the not guilty verdict on charges of possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver; possession of a controlled substance; and conspiracy to possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver, according to Latoison.

White, a caseworker for the Department of Human Services with an exuberant personality, did not testify during the trial, which opened Wednesday, October 25, before Common Pleas Court Judge James P Bradley.

Looking back, White said she was coming off three days of fun in Montego Bay when her life turned upside down - an ordeal she recounted during a 43-minute interrogation by a pair of Homeland Security agents hours after her return to Philadelphia, on the evening of May 24, 2016.

The interrogation was recorded on video, which both the prosecution and defence used, in part, to bolster their case. Assistant District Attorney Michelle Thurstlic-O'Neill described White as seemingly unconcerned in the video, combining her demeanour with other circumstantial elements like paying in cash for her ticket for a last-minute trip, to portray her as a professional drug-running mule, to show her as a willing participant in the smuggling of cocaine valued at as much as US$500,000.

Even Laszewski admitted Wednesday that White's spontaneous trip "would be a red flag, 100 per cent."

Bermuda Police say they have made two arrests in connection with the killing of a 30-year-old Jamaican man last Friday.

Morlan Steede was reportedly killed by a lone gunman who chased him through the back streets of Pembroke parish.

Steede, who was married and the father of a four-year-old daughter, was shot several times before collapsing in the middle of Parsons Road on the outskirts of Hamilton.

The Bermuda Police confirmed they were looking at the possibility that the killing was related to a drugs feud.

Detective Sergeant Jason Smith told a news conference that Steede was not known to police.

Following allegations from a taxi operator that drivers of public passenger vehicles owned by members of the constabulary and their friends, often avoid prosecution, Police Commissioner, George Quallo, has promised to identify all members of the JCF, who own public passenger vehicles.

The taximan, in an interview with Nationwide News, noted that these taxis "untouchable".

This follows allegations that some members of the police force are not taking action against bus and taxi operators who break traffic laws because they own or have an interest in the vehicles.

Commissioner Quallo says he's asked the Transport Authority to provide him with a list of public passenger vehicle owners who're JCF members.

The country's top cop says members of the force must get permission from the Police Service Commission to engage in another trade.

US 50,000 Haitian residents, by the Thanksgiving holiday later this month

A letter from the United States Department of State could pave the way for deporting 50,000 Haitian residents, by the Thanksgiving holiday later this month, enjoying a reprieve from certain immigration rules that were waived after the 2010 earthquake, according to reports here.

The ruling that conditions have improved enough in Haiti and in Central America to resume normal immigration rules in those regions comes days before the Department of Homeland Security is expected to announce whether to renew the special status, according to the Washington Post.

The Miami Herald reports that political leaders in Miami-Dade, Florida -- home to the largest concentration of Haitians protected by the special status, known as Temporary Protected Status (TPS), have urged President Donald Trump to continue the waiver.

But the paper quickly added that the State Department decision could be a prelude to that status being lifted.

More than 300,000 Central Americans and Haitians living in the United States under a form of temporary permission no longer need to be shielded from deportation, the State Department told Homeland Security officials, the Post reported.

church-shooter.jpgThe mass shooter who opened fire during Mass inside a Texas church killing at least 27 - including a two-year-old child - has been identified as a 26-year-old former Bible study teacher who was dishonorably discharged from the US Air Force.

Devin Patrick Kelley walked into the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, dressed in black, tactical gear with a ballistics belt and an assault rifle, and began shooting, according to local law enforcement sources.

The attack only stopped when Kelly was tackled by a heroic local man.

Kelley, 26, of New Braunfels, a suburb of San Antonio, fled in his SUV but crashed near state lines and was killed after a brief foot chase into Guadalupe County, according Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Murphy.

He then volunteered as a teacher for Bible studies at Kingsville First Baptist Church, according to his LinkedIn which shows him posing which a young child. Police are now investigating the possibility that Kelley was in a local militia group.

Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr told CNN that at least 27 people - including the shooter- have been killed in the shooting, but the death toll is expected to climb. The first responders on the scene were from local churches who began receiving texts from family and friends about the shooting.

The Connally Memorial Medical Center said 'multiple' victims are being treated.

grace-jones.jpgMusician, actress and model Grace Jones has revealed she was sexually harassed when she landed her first big acting role, a report by CNN stated..

Speaking to CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Thursday, Jones, who was born in Jamaica, said the unnamed producer on the Ossie Davis-directed film asked her to bring her portfolio to his house so that he could make a final call on her casting.

"He (the producer) poured some champagne, he was in his bathrobe and of course, took me to a room ... it was his bedroom," Jones said.

"So with the champagne, even then at that young age ... I threw it in his face and walked out the door."

Jones said that for alleged perpetrators of sexual assault, "it's a power thing."

The "Slave to the Rhythm" hit-maker added that people at the beginning of their careers are especially exposed.

"It's really difficult call because when you're in that position, you're so vulnerable, you're so nervous," she said.

"You want this break so badly because you've been banging away at the pavement, probably longer than others and you finally think 'I've made it to the big time, this is my way, the door is open' and now you have a monster to confront."

ishawna-photo-7.jpgSimply take the letter 'B' off Michael Jackson's pop anthem 'Beat It' and you will get the name and musical score of Ishawna's Equal Rights follow-up single. Ishawna previewed the track last week and the feeling is that "Eat It" - the title of the song - is pushing the envelope a bit too far.

Mix-up-Foota-Hype, Ishawna's ex is agreeing with Dancehall fans who feel that Eat It is just too saucy to be cute.

Mix-up-Foota-Hype believes Ishawna is becoming too dependent on controversy to remain relevant.

Ishawna, however, continues to promote 'Eat It' like it's going out of style.

So....Sean Kingston poses up with his very-light-skinned-close to-white Bae on Social media and is getting some anti-social feedback. Why?

Well, some say that Bae is just too light and that Sean is just following the trend of 'successful', or rather 'mek a lickle money' black men who think that having a white.brown skin girl is verification of that success.

"They say it comes when u least expect it!," Kingston wrote on Saturday when he uploaded a photo with his new bae. "Love is real every king deserves a queen [Amarii] you are the chosen one."

Truth be told, some fans of the artiste are happy that Kingston has found love, but several social media users called him out on his Bae's complexion

"Smh, these Jamaican artiste always frighten for brown woman when dem get little money," one user wrote, while another shared their theory on why Jamaican acts prefer to date women of fair complexion, "it's an inferiority complex. It's an 'achievement', it's confirmation that they have made it, not for all but for most."

He is one of a long list of entertainers to be blasted on social media for the complexion of his girlfriend.sean-kingston-and-girlfriend.jpg

Dr. Ford sentenced to 6 months in prison

court.jpgPopular medical doctor Jephthah Ford has been sentenced six months in prison on each of two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice. The sentences are to run concurrently.

However, Ford's attorney Bert Samuels has indicated that his client will be appealing and Parish Judge Simone Wolf Reece granted bail pending the outcome.

Earlier, Samuels had recommended that a fine be imposed instead of custodial sentence.

In August, Ford was convicted on two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Prosecutor Joel Brown led evidence that Ford offered police investigators millions of dollars to free two Surinamese men who were held with US$533,000 or approximately J$55 million during a police operation along Half Way Tree Road, in St Andrew in July 2014.

The police investigator testified during the trial that he met with Ford at his St Andrew offices and secretly recorded the meeting.

He said it was during that meeting the well-known medical doctor offered him a percentage of the money confiscated to free the men.

Samuels acknowledged that it was a serious offence, but cautioned that it involved no violence and resulted in no monetary value to Ford.

regulator-wentworth-graham.jpgA body found at the Fisherman's Beach in St Catherine has been identified as that of Wentworth Graham, the chief regulatory officer at the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

The body was found late Tuesday evening.

Graham, 48, went missing from the Spanish Hospital on Monday, two days after he was admitted.

That same day, he was seen in Lake's Pen, St Catherine.

The Portmore Police who are investigating have not yet determined the cause of death.

Earlier this year, Graham filed a claim against the Jamaica Stock Exchange and its managing director, Marlene Street Forrest, alleging breach of his employment contract, following efforts to suspend him from the job.

Graham was attempting to block the suspension, which he was fighting before the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT), and any other action that could result in his dismissal. (PICTURE OF Wentworth Graham)

ninja-man-photo-7.jpgDancehall artiste Ninja Man has been rushed to hospital complaining of chest pains.

Ninja Man, whose real name is Desmond Ballentyne was attending his murder trial when he reported feeling ill.

The trial, is however, continuing in Ninja Man's absence after the artiste reportedly gave permission to his lawyers to do.

A witness who lives overseas is now testifying.

Ninja Man was taken back into police custody on October 17 as his murder trial started in the Gun Court.

In 2009, he was arrested and charged along with his son, Janeil, and another man, Dennis Clayton, for the fatal shooting of Ricardo Johnson that same year.

popcaan-photo-6.jpgThe Unruly Boss, Popcaan is clearly not having anything to do with unruly Chi Ching and he made this very clear over the weekend, thus giving life to the rumours that there is a problem between Ching and Popcaan. In 2015, Popcaan signed Ching to his Unruly label and the two developed a close friendship since then.

People have been saying for months that there is an issue between the two, especially since Sean Paul took Ching on tour and the long tongue Foota Hype stirred up trouble by calling out Popcaan for not doing the same for Ching, who, up until then was a prominent member of the Unruly camp.

chi-ching-ching.jpgWell, last weekend, one of Popcaan's right hand men, Petro Unruly posted a photo on Instagram and captioned it "#CrazyCrazy #Outside." Chi Ching Ching commented on the photo with a simple tick emoji and that sent Popcaan into overdrive.

He commented: "[Petro Unruly] tell some wanna be unruly don't nuff up ina real unruly business."

Wannabe Unruly versus Real Unruly...what the hell is that all about? Aren't all Unrulys equal? Obviously not. And to top it all, in a move which some see as "petty" Popcaan also un-followed Ching on Instagram

white-bully-room-mate.jpgCollege freshman Brianna Brochu, 18, was arrested for allegedly harassing her roommate, and the acts she reportedly committed are downright disturbing. Here's everything to know about her.

Brianna Rae Brochu, 18, was arrested on Oct. 28, after her roommate Chennel "Jazzy" Rowe claimed that she was ill due to bullying from Brochu. Here are five things to know about Brianna, who is now facing criminal charges.

black-student-bullied-by-roomate-photo-1.jpg

1. Brianna Brochu covertly harassed her black roommate Chennel Rowe, and allegedly contaminated her belongings, in order to get her to move out. "After one and a half months spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubbing used tampons on her backpack, putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn't shine, and so much more, I can finally say goodbye to Jamaican Barbie," Brochu, who is white, allegedly wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, via the New York Times. Just awful.

2. Brochu was charged with criminal mischief. She was arrested on Oct. 28, and charged with the misdemeanors of third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of the peace. Her court date is Nov. 15.

3. She was also expelled from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. "As of this morning, Brianna Brochu is no longer a student at the University of Hartford," the school's president, Gregory S. Woodward, stated on November 1. "She will not be returning to the institution."

black-student-bullied-by-roomate-photo-2.jpg

4. Rowe has responded to Brochu's actions in a passionate Facebook post. "As a young African American woman I don't want to become another statistic," she wrote. "When it comes to college incidents/crimes and racial cases justice needs to be served." You can read more here.

5. Celebrities like Shonda Rimes are outraged by the student's heinous behavior. "That this type of ignorant hate can flourish in 2017 tests my faith in humanity?" the Grey's Anatomy showrunner tweeted.

cocaine-seized-photo-1.jpgTwo Jamaicans who were held in Cayman on September 29 following the seizure of 438 pounds of ganja have pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges. They have also pleaded guilty to illegal landing. A third individual has denied any connection to the importation and possession charges, though he admitted illegal landing.

Ceaphus Reynolds, 42, and 45-year-old Eyon Johnson will be sentenced next year, having pleaded guilty to charges of importing ganja and immigration offences The other man, 36-year-old Linton Nightpole Pallarchie, will face trial.

The three men entered their various pleas via video link from prison on Tuesday. The Magistrate ordered reports in preparation for sentencing, as drug smuggling carries a heavy penalty.

The police caught the men after several reports were called in to 911 about the arrival of a canoe and suspicious activity in the beachfront neighbourhood in South Sound, a well populated residential area.

The men attempted to flee but were tracked by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Joint Marine Unit and a police helicopter. The police seized the boat and drugs.

jazzy-rowe-facebook-live.jpgIn a Facebook live video, Jamaican student in the US, Chennel 'Jazzy' Rowe details her nightmare encounter with a white room-mate who tried to poison her with various methods: "While I've been here [at school], I've been getting sick," Rowe said in the post. "Not knowing why, I've been getting sick. It started with throat pain. I thought maybe because it's colder up here, I'm just probably catching a cold... The sore throat pain got worse and it was just throat pain. And this was happening for about a month. It got to the point where I had extreme throat pain where I couldn't sleep, to the point where I couldn't speak. Like I'd try to whisper, and I could barely whisper."

Rowe said she went to the health clinic on campus, where they ran three tests and prescribed her antibiotics. She added that all of the tests came back negative and that no one could figure out what was wrong with her; just that it was some "bad bacteria" that was causing her pain. Now, she says she has to travel from the University of Hartford to her native New York for doctor's appointments.

Rowe also took to Facebook, where she wrote the following message: "As a young African American woman I don't want to become another statistic. When it comes to college incidents/crimes and racial cases justice needs to be served. Colleges are known to just sweep issues that happen within the campus under the rug, making the issue disappear and not doing anything about it. Now this isn't right at all and this is where the public gets involved to push for things to be done right. I'm not holding my tongue any longer about my situation because this is just ridiculous to hear nothing back from my school about this situation. As a African American woman I have to fight for myself and others to not become some statistic. I'm not making this known. I'm giving you guys the option to choose where you would like to hear this information either through Facebook live or Instagram. I will then go on live and let it be known... "It's the fact that I didn't know all of this was happening and it's the fact that she's been posting it on her Instagram," Rowe said. "And I didn't know anything about it until my neighbor's friend (told me). If only I knew. I just want to know the 'so much more.' I want to know all the posts."

Rowe's video, which has since garnered national attention, has even prompted the University of Hartford to speak up. The school's president, Greg Woodward said in a statement in part: "Acts of racism, bias, bullying, or other abusive behaviors will not be tolerated on this campus... I pledge to do everything in my power to work with our community to address related concerns together." Jazzy Rowe

brianna-brochu-mugshot.jpgBrianna Rae Brochu, 18, a freshman at the University of Hartford, was arrested on Oct. 28, after her roommate Chennel "Jazzy" Rowe claimed she became severely ill from deliberate acts of bullying by Brochu. Rowe posted a 103-minute Facebook Live video [watch below] on Monday, Oct. 30 about her experience living with Brochu. Rowe said she had felt "unwanted in [her] own room" since being randomly assigned to live with Brochu in late August. After she moved in, Rowe said she started getting sick, with "severe throat pain" that forced her to visit the University's medical center. That severe pain, Rowe claimed, was brought on by Brochu's alleged acts of rubbing her bodily fluids on Rowe's belongings, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions and spitting on her belongings.

When Rowe finally decided to move out of the room she shared with Brochu, she said she was approached by a neighbor and residents aids, who informed her of "very concerning" posts online seen on Brochu's social media accounts. They showed Rowe a post that Brochu allegedly wrote, which read: "Finally did it yo girl go rid of her roommate!! After 1 1/2 month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubbing used tampons oh her backpack, putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn't shine, and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie."

Brochu has denied the acts written in the post, according to police [via the Harford Courant]. However, Brochu admitted to licking her roommate's plate, fork, spoon and smearing her own bodily fluid on Rowe's backpack, police said. She told West Hartford police that those other statements [in the online post] were lies and a way to "appear funny" online. Rowe told police that "she has felt ostracized by Brochu," as reported by the site.

Brochu claimed she was reacting to a "hostile environment" created by Rowe, who allegedly posted Snapchat videos, poking fun at Brochu for snoring. Brochu also reportedly requested her own room change last month, but was unsuccessful.

Brochu has been charged with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, state court records show. Brochu was scheduled to appear in Hartford Community Court on Wednesday, Nov. 1, after she was released without having to post bail, according to the site.

"If they are in a vehicle marked police, call 119 to verify," Lindsay added.

mitch.jpgArmed with a new single, new management and a renewed focus and strategy, Roger Mitchell is once again fully ready to claim his musical space, with the release of his recent single, Goosebumps, an upbeat collaboration with artiste Dolla Coin.

Cops on high alert as 'Duppy Film' to be buried today

duppy-film-marlon-perry.jpgPolice are keeping a close watch on sections of St Thomas following reports that Marlon 'Duppy Film' Perry, the man who was on Jamaica's most wanted list, is to be buried on Sunday.

A hearing on damages will be held at a later date, but Gayle is already offering his story for a starting price of US$300,000.

"Biding (sic) starts at US$300K for this interview! So much to say & I will!"

Three men were shot and killed by the police Wednesday morning in an alleged shootout in Salt Spring, St James.

According to the police, the alleged gunmen opened fire on a team from the Mobile Reserve who were conducting an operation in the community minutes after 6 o'clock.

The gunfire was returned by the police team and the three unidentified men were found suffering from gunshot injuries.

They were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The police say they recovered one Ruger .40 pistol and eight rounds of ammunition as well as a Bersa .22 pistol and a magazine with 5 .22 rounds.

One of the men, who is in his early 20s, has since been released on police bail, while the other man, who is in his mid-20, is still in custody.

Detective Sergeant Jason Smith told a news conference that Steede was not known to police.

Steede's death marks Bermuda's third gun killing and fifth murder for the year.

More than 300,000 Central Americans and Haitians living in the United States under a form of temporary permission no longer need to be shielded from deportation, the State Department told Homeland Security officials, the Post reported.

back-to-school.jpgThe Office of the Children's Advocate (OCA) has confirmed that it will dispatch a team of emergency responders to the Clarks Town Primary School in Trelawny following a report that a 7-year-old boy was assaulted by a group of boys at the institution.

Children's Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison told local news agency, RJR News, that this has become necessary due to the reported severity of the case.

The child's mother alleged that a group of boys attacked her son at school about a week ago, causing him to suffer injuries which had to be treated at hospital. The woman said her son told her four male students held him down while he was using the bathroom and inserted a piece of stick into his rectum.

She also took issue with the police and the school for how she said she was treated after raising an alarm about the matter.

Mrs Gordon Harrison is reserving substantial comment on what took place, pending the outcome of the investigation by her office.

Kingston, Jamaica: PanJam Investment Limited (PanJam) has partnered with the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona to host the first 'Imagine Kingston: A Conference on the Regeneration of a City' from November 9 to 12.

stephen-facey.jpgThe four-day conference, which is being jointly held by The UWI's Department of Government, Institute of Caribbean Studies and the Institute of Jamaica's Jamaica Music Museum, will see the convergence of artists, educators, scholars and investors of urban design and landscape studies -- to imagine the regeneration of Kingston.

"We [PanJam] felt this conversation is too important to ignore. For years, we have envisioned a Kingston that thrives as a harbour facing metropolis -- our city has been left neglected for far too long -- developing on its own without a unified economic and physical plan," Stephen Facey, chairman and CEO of PanJam Investment Limited.

"This conference, we believe, should sow the seeds for the visioning of goals that will impact urban policy and garner political, social, and private buy in," Facey added. "Also, continuing the legacy of our founding chairman the late Honourable Maurice Facey is important."

Having invested in Kingston from as far back as the post-independence period, PanJam expressed delight at partnering with The UWI to outline the prospects of the area and the importance of the regeneration of Kingston.

Dr Sonjah Stanley Niaah, conference organiser and director of the UWI Institute of Caribbean Studies, posited that the city is waiting to be the catalyst for a fundamental expansion of tourism in Jamaica.

"The conversation about the regeneration of Kingston is important particularly as we are within two years of being declared as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) Creative City for Music. Kingston is beckoning us to imagine and reflect the creative cultural ethos it birthed," said Dr Stanley Niaah.

The conference also aims to catalyse the restoration and regeneration as the basis to chart pathways for economic growth.

"Knowing the history of PanJam in Kingston, and particularly in downtown -- with the development of the Air Jamaica Building and the Scotia Centre -- we recognised that the company had a historic, vested interest in seeing its resurgence," Dr Stanley Niaah said of the partnership.

The scholarship and expertise in urban renewal are growing globally and providing governments, policy makers, investors, entrepreneurs, and citizens and various publics with knowledge is at the forefront of the over 60 presentations in the Main Library.

PanJam in Downtown

PanJam was among the first companies to be listed on the newly formed Kingston Stock Exchange (now Jamaica Stock Exchange) in 1965.

That post-Independence period was one which sanctioned the efforts to capitalise on opportunities which positively impacted Jamaica's economic, infrastructural and social needs by businessmen and philanthropists, such as founding PanJam Chairman, the late Honourable Maurice Facey.

In 1966, Facey expedite his dreams for large scale property development in Jamaica and a year earlier, PanJam laid the first blocks on the Air Jamaica Building on Harbour Street in downtown, Kingston.

The PanJam Group also pioneered the development of high-rise buildings across Kingston. Later on in his life, Facey's dream of restoring downtown, Kingston to its former glory sparked the establishment of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the Kingston Restoration Company (KRC) in the 1970s.

Fast-forward 50-plus years, the company led by chairman and CEO of PanJam Investments Limited Stephen Facey, is still specifically invested in downtown with the redevelopment of the former Oceana Hotel.

trevor-webb-politician-sharp-shooter.jpgTrevor Webb, the politician who was captured in a recent video shooting at water bottles that were in a man's outstretched hands and on his head could be charged, police sources have confirmed.

The incident has been described as 'a serious matter' that has not only endangered the life of another individual in the case of the man holding the bottle but has also sent a wrong message to those who look up to individuals in power for guidance.

Reports have also surfaced that the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA), is also probing the matter.

In the video, Webb and the other persons are seen at what appears to be a remote location and can be heard celebrating after the politicians points and discharges his weapon hitting the water bottle on the man's head and the other two in his outstretched hands.

church-shooter.jpgThe mass shooter who opened fire during Mass inside a Texas church killing at least 27 - including a two-year-old child - has been identified as a 26-year-old former Bible study teacher who was dishonorably discharged from the US Air Force.

It's still unclear if the gunman shot himself or was taken down by a local resident.

San Antonio police raided Kelley's home on Sunday evening, with K9 and bomb squad units.

Kelley, who was reportedly married, had recently posted a photo of an AR-15 style gun on his Facebook page with the caption: 'She's a bad b***h.'

A LinkedIn account which appears to be Kelley's states that he joined the US Air Force after graduating New Braunfels High School in 2009. He worked in logistics and supply in the Air Force until he was dishonorably discharged in 2014 and was even court martialed in May 2014, CBS News reported.

The 69-year-old's account comes in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault in the entertainment industry. Dozens of women have accused Harvey Weinsten of sexual harassment and police are investigating assault claims. Weinstein has apologized for his behavior, but he denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.

He is one of a long list of entertainers to be blasted on social media for the complexion of his girlfriend.sean-kingston-and-girlfriend.jpg

court.jpgPopular medical doctor Jephthah Ford has been sentenced six months in prison on each of two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A witness who lives overseas is now testifying.

Colin Kaepernick is GQ's 'Citizen of the Year'

Webmin

colin-kaepernick-gq-magazine.jpgColin Kaepernick, an American football player who last year started protesting police brutality against African Americans by kneeling during the US national anthem, has been named "Citizen of the Year" by GQ magazine.

He posted a message on Twitter, saying he was "honored' by the recognition.

nicki-minaj-paper.jpgRapper Eve just landed her new gig on 'The Talk,' and is already making waves via the daytime talk show.

But a NSW Supreme Court jury ruled a defamation case in his favour late last month, finding the articles were motivated by malice.

A hearing on damages will be held at a later date, but Gayle is already offering his story for a starting price of US$300,000.

"How they want to use me as a scapegoat over a interview - I'll tell you what I do every day after court, believe me, when I break this down to y'all it will be like a movie! No holding back!

"Biding (sic) starts at US$300K for this interview! So much to say & I will!"

He is one of a long list of entertainers to be blasted on social media for the complexion of his girlfriend.sean-kingston-and-girlfriend.jpg

court.jpgPopular medical doctor Jephthah Ford has been sentenced six months in prison on each of two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

(PICTURE OF Wentworth Graham)

popcaan-photo-6.jpgThe Unruly Boss, Popcaan is clearly not having anything to do with unruly Chi Ching and he made this very clear over the weekend, thus giving life to the rumours that there is a problem between Ching and Popcaan.
