crime-scene-gun.jpgA policeman who was on suspension from the force after he was charged with murder was killed execution style at a dance early this morning. Another man was also injured in the early morning attack in Orangefield, in Ewarton, St Catherine.

The policeman has been identified as 35-year-old constable Courtney Linton, who was attached to the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Division, popularly referred to as the Police Flying Squad.

Reports are that the policeman, who was on suspension on a murder charge for the past five years, was at the dance playing a sound system when men in a white Nissan motor car drove up.

Two of the men reportedly pulled guns and opened fire, hitting Linton and the other man.

Patrons ran for cover during the melee.

Linton was reportedly shot multiple times, even after he fell to the ground. He died on the spot.

The other man received a shot in the right shoulder and is being treated at hospital.

In a statement this morning, Police Commissioner, George Quallo, said detectives from the Major Investigations Division and the St Catherine North Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the shooting.

Commissioner Quallo expressed condolence and said teams from the Community Safety and Security Branch and the Chaplaincy Unit were dispatched to assist family members.

This morning's shooting came days after another policeman was shot dead.
