smoke-dem.jpgSingjay Smoke Dem is steadily carving out his own niche in the dancehall, and, although he is not yet a household name, the artiste has already made a number of trips within the Caribbean and South America in particular which have borne fruit.

Currently working on projects with the Suriname-based Next Level Productions, Smoke Dem, who has previously used the moniker Smokey Benz, gives deejay Fanton Mojah credit for helping him along his journey. It was Fantan, he said, who took him on a tour in 2015, which saw Smoke Dem performing in places such as Suriname, French Guyana, Brazil and Guyana and winning over new fans. It was during this time that he made the crucial link with his current producers.

"Fantan first took me on a few shows in Jamaica and he said I was a bad artiste, so he took me on tour in South America and a few islands. It was a great experience and it really helped to take my career a step further," the singjay explained.

" I met Next Level in Suriname when Fantan took me to their studio after the show to cut some dubplates, and the energy was great. So it was a no-brainer for us to work on a few projects," Smoke Dem further explained.

That link-up has seen the release the song Bad Mind Dem, a collaboration with Anthony Seasoning, a singer from the Red Hills Road area who was in Suriname at the same time as Smoke Dem and the two ended up working on a project for the same producers. The song has been receiving much love from radio, not only in Jamaica, but also in Suriname and across the Caribbean, where it is in moderate to heavy rotation.

The artiste sees this song, along with the fact that he has been steadily getting more shows, both overseas and locally and honing his craft on stage, as a major positive stone in his career.

Smoke Dem and Anthony Seasoning have also collaborated on another a single for Next Level entitled, Marijuana, which is set to blow much more than smoke.
