Investigators are still at the scene of the shooting, which took place at about 1:00 o'clock.

The child and three men were shot at the intersection of Tulip Lane and Milk Lane in the community. One of the men is said to be in critical condition.

"When they were rushing with her in the hospital she turned to one of the medical persons and said, 'doctor I don't want to die; doctor am I going to live?'" said the aunt of the little girl.

The little girl was reportedly shot in the hands and upper body when gunmen - travelling on motorcycles - opened fire in the community. She was among four people shot and injured. Twenty four hours later, the girl is said to be battling bravely in hospital, in serious but stable condition.

"Reports we are getting is that doctors are working round the clock on her and we are praying," the aunt told Loop News.

Residents of the volatile community have praised the fighting spirit of the child.

"Imagine she was doing her hair to go back to school when gunman just walked up and opened fire. Even when she got shot the child got up and walked into her home and then collapsed," one man said.
