sly-and-robbie.jpgMusical influences from the Caribbean took the stage at Sunday night's staging of the MTV Video Music awards.

Caribbean artistes Nicki Minaj and Rihanna treated viewers to one of a kind performances, while the dancehall influence was very present during Beyonce's and Rihanna's sets. Rihanna, who was presented with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, performed four times over the course of the night, her best set being the reggae inspired block party. During her performance, music from Sly & Robbie, Beenie Man and Mr. Vegas were sampled.
