ymz-launch-video-link-r5.jpgYMZ, the July 9 concert scheduled for the National Stadium field in Kingston, Jamaica, had its official launch last Tuesday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in front of a packed house of sponsors, media, artistes and a host of excited teeny boppers, led by starlet Journey Jewels. The event's tagline promises "It a go loud" and host for the evening, Emprezz, certainly ensured that it was.

Organisers, Mysterious Music Minds, pulled out all the stops, including a first at a Jamaican media launch, by having a live link with US-based five member sibling group (and their best friend), R5, one of the show's headliners. Employing the best modern technology available, the organisers ensured that the packed house inside the Pegasus was able to see and talk to R5 in what was surely a historic occasion. The three members of R5 who were present, were truly excited at making their Jamaican debut and it was loads of fun as they interacted with the press, fans and well-wishers.

When asked who was their favourite Jamaican artiste, the youngsters named Bob Marley and they bubbled with enthusiasm as they spoke about their desire to try Jamaican food. In fact, so inspired were they that after the launch R5 posted the YMZ concert flyer on their Facebook/Instagram pages and it attracted close to 28,000 likes. "We'll be playing our first show in Jamaica July 9th! #ymz #youthmusiczone," R5 posted along with the flyer.

Of course, those artistes who were present in the flesh, could not be outdone. Don Andre was a huge hit with the uber-popular, "Tom Cruise" song and dance which levelled the place. He had the gathering, especially the children, singing and bouncing along to the infectious song and its hard to believe that things could possibly get any louder at the actual concert on July 9. But Don Andre says that this was just the tip of the iceberg. Bling Dawg was present, as well, and mingled with the crowd but did not perform. Voicemail was also in fine form and kicked off the live performance section with a bang. The consensus is that YMZ is definitely the event for the summer.

Guest speaker, Dania Beckford, Director of Entertainment at the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment,Gender and Sports, pledged her ministry's full support for the event, so too did Mitsie Harris-Dillon PRO at the National Parent Teachers Association, which is officially endorsing YMZ. Sponsors Jamaica Yellow Pages, KaribLink Digital, Youth Link, Gleaner, Children's Own, Zip FM, Irie FM, Hype TV, Main Event, Esirom, Renaissance Disco, Atlas Protection, Tutti Frutti, Caribbean Sofa, Events R US, Pure National Ice, Suretime Medical Services, Kozy Korner, Carib Tix, 1Luv TV, Romeich Entertainment, Respect Jamaica certainly made their presence seen and felt and iCool showed exactly why they are so popular.

The July 9 concert also features Silento (Whip/Nae Nae) and Wayne J.

Check out YMZ on July 9 at the National Stadium a go loud!
