Prince's record sales soar after death; tops Billboard chart

prince-photo-1.jpgPrince has taken the number one and two slots on the Billboard 200 albums chart with the greatest hits album The Very Best of Prince and the Purple Rain soundtrack, as both re-entered the chart in the wake of his death last Thursday.

The Very Best of Prince sold 179,000 units and Purple Rain shifted 69,000 units.

Another Prince album hit the top 10 as The Hits/The B-Side re-enters at number six with 41,000 units sold.

The three titles are also the number one, two and seven selling albums of the week.

Prince's overall catalog of albums sold 256,000 copies.

In the meantime Prince is on course to dominate the UK charts this week. The musician holds every spot in the top five in the midweek chart update, with 16 albums set to enter the top 100.
