JHTA shoots down Butch Stewart's tax relief proposal

butch-stewart-gordon-butch.jpgThe Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has rejected a suggestion that the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) be used to finance the Government's income tax relief plan.

The suggestion was made by hotelier Gordon 'Butch' Stewart.

The JHTA, in a news release, said while the suggestion is well intentioned it does not fall within the mandate of the TEF.

According to the JHTA, the TEF funds are essential to maintaining the competitiveness of the tourism sector, its growth and other critical initiatives such as the Tourism Linkages Hub.
