fantasia-photo-1.jpgThe US Embassy Kingston has announced that the 'Queen of RockSoul,' Fantasia Barrino will be this year's headline performer at its signature cultural event: Blues on the Green 2016.

With hits such as I Believe, When I See You, and Truth Is, Fantasia's performance promises to celebrate the beauty and depth of the African-American experience.

The theme for this year is the shared motto of the United States and Jamaica: Out of many, one!

The event will be held on Friday, February 26, at Emancipation Park in St Andrew; with free admission all are invited to attend the musical showcase.

Seating begins at 6pm and the show kicks off at 7 pm.

Blues on the Green 2016 will also showcase performances by Jamaica's own reggae-dancehall fusion singer/songwriter Christopher Martin and roots-rock-reggae band RagingFyah.

Blues on the Green commemorates African-American History Month, (Black History Month).

Every February, Americans reflect on the contributions of African-Americans to our society and our ongoing efforts to deliver our Founders' democratic promise to all citizens.

In an issued release from the US Embassy, the agency stated that this is why it is proud to present this year's concert together with RESPECT Jamaica and in partnership with the Ministry of Youth & Culture.

"In the spirit of inclusiveness, we are asking those attending to bring educational or learning items, formula, or diapers to donate to the Women's Resource and Outreach Centre to help the teen mothers under their care. Center representatives will be on hand to accept donations," the release added.

Paula-Anne Porter Jones will be this year's Master of Ceremonies.
