Sound engineer Delroy 'Spider' Thompson is dead

delroy-thompson.jpgRenowned sound engineer Delroy 'Spider' Thompson is dead. Thompson reportedly died Wednesday morning at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary of complications from a heart attack and stroke. He was 63.

In a Facebook post, music producer and owner of anchor Recording STudios, Gussie Clarke said Thompson was 'the master of mastering and his experience is irreplaceable and invaluable'. Thompson was employed at Anchor since 2009. He had previously worked at Dynamic Sounds and Tuff Gong in Kingston.

During his long career, Thompson worked with countless brand artistes led by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown and Alton Ellis.

His feel can also be heard on songs by Marcia Griffiths, the Heptones, Third World, Lovindeer, The Mighty Diamonds, Shabba Ranks, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, The Mighty Sparrow, Shaggy, Grace Jones, Fab Five, Mad Cobra (his nephew), The Congos, Yellowman, Beres Hammond, Prince Buster, Ken Boothe, Johnny Osbourne and Gregory Isaacs.

Delroy 'Spider' Thompson is survived by two children, his fiancée Angella and two brothers.
