Elaine Thompson shatters Merlene Ottey's record

elaine-thompson-breaks-record.jpgNational champion Elaine Thompson underlined her medal credentials for next month's World Championships in Beijing by producing a big victory over 200 meters on the second day of the Sainsbury Anniversary Games in the London Olympic Stadium.

Thompson the second fastest Jamaican this year led home a host of Americans to capture the event in a personal best of 22.10 seconds which broke the 24 year record of 22.24 by Jamaican Great Merlene Ottey.

Meanwhile Kimberly Williams took the silver in the women's triple jump with a leap of 14.15 meters. Olga Rypakova of Kazakstan won with a jump of 14.33 meters.

Commonwealth champion Stephanie McPherson was third in the women's 400 meters in 50.91 seconds behind Natasha Hastings of the US 50.24 seconds.
