Earthquakes rattle Eastern Caribbean and Guyana

Sections of the Eastern Caribbean and Guyana were rocked by earthquakes shortly before noon on Thursday.

The Seismic Research Center at the University of the West Indies confirmed that tremors occurred in St Lucia, Barbados and Martinique.

The first that measured 5.7 while the second, felt in the same region four hours later at 11:16 am, measured 6.4 occurred at 7:01am.

In St Lucia, the earthquakes were particularly heavy in the north, but there have been no reports of damage.

In Guyana, the tremor was rocked sections of the Essequibo Coast and the villages of Bartica, Buck Hall and Mabaruma.
