Rapper Robert 'Pumpkinhead' Diaz dies after undergoing minor surgery

robert-pumpkinhead-diaz.jpgNew York-based rapper Robert 'Pumpkinhead' Diaz has died at the age of 39.

The Orange Moon Over Brooklyn singer died on Tuesday, according to Rolling Stone magazine. The cause of his death is not know. His passing comes just days after undergoing minor surgery in New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife, who is pregnant with the couple's daughter, and two sons.

Diaz first became famous in 1997 with the release of his song Dynamic.

He then released two albums - The Old Testament in 2001 and Beautiful Mind in 2003. Orange Moon Over Brooklyn came out in 2005.

Pumpkinhead also sang on albums by Immortal Technique and Jean Grae.

The rap community on the East Coast have mourned his passing.

Musician Kweli wrote on Instagram, 'There is a fraternity of artists who were around for all of this. PH inspired us all. He will live on thru us even though his physical presence will be missed. RIP Robert Diaz.'

Immortal Technique said Diaz was a great supporter of other artists.
