'If you don't have haters you are nothing,' says a cocky Deva Brat

deva-bratt-photo-1.jpgDancehall artiste Deva Brat is again showing his bratty side. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in the Palm Beach County Courthouse in West Palm Beach, Florida after he failed to appear in court to answer to charges of driving without a valid licence.

"An open warrant was issued. He was supposed to appear in court at 9:00 on Monday but failed to appear," one source told Loop Jamaica.

However, when contacted, Deva Bratt told a reporter that he has just arrived in New York on a flight from Florida, and that he was a "busy man".

"Mi just fly from Florida to New York, so what is this all about? Mi nuh know what this is all about, how people love me so? Mi like it. Mek dem gwaan love me continuously because if yu nuh have haters, you are nothing," he said.

The artiste, whose real name is Sheldon Owen Smith, recently escaped a batter case in Boca Raton, Florida, as it was thrown out due to an "uncooperative victim". Battery is an intentional unpermitted act causing harmful or offensive contact with another person.

The artiste, who was an integral member of the Kartel-led Portmore Empire, is known for the single, Gussie Clarke which hit number one on various charts over seven years ago. He has a checkered criminal history and he has been acquitted of indecent assault and assault occasioning bodily harm of two females in the Spanish Town RM Court in St Catherine in 2012.

Prior to that, he was freed of a carnal abuse charge following an incident in 2008 involving a minor.
