Akeem Bloomfield takes gold at CARIFTA Games in record time

Jamaica's Akeem Bloomfield continued his phenomenal rise in the 400m capturing the 400m Under-20 gold at the Carifta Games in a record 45.85 seconds. The previous record was 47.26 held by Henri Delauze of the Bahamas set last year when the age group category was shifted to Under-20.

Delauze finished third this year in 46.81 seconds behind Rai Benjamin of Antigua who was second in 46.19 seconds. Jamaica's other finalist, Terry Thomas was fifth in with 48.38 seconds.

Only last Saturday, Bloomfield, of Kingston College, ran an astonishing 44.93 seconds at the GraceKennedy ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championship having just taken up the event on the instruction of his coach Neil Harrison.
