News Americas, JFK, NY, Tues. Sept. 30, 2014: A 33-year-old Jamaican woman was last night being held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after she was busted for cocaine in a pair of wedge heeled shoes and in her Chanel pocketbook.

Janisha Amalee Atkins , 33, was busted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers after she arrived at New York's Kennedy Airport aboard a JetBlue flight from Montego Bay.

Atkins now faces federal narcotics smuggling charges and will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the U.S. Eastern District Court of New York.

During the course of the inspection on September 19th, CBP officers said they discovered two pairs of platform shoes that felt unusually heavy in the passenger's luggage.

Atkins was escorted to a private search room where the officers probed the shoes and discovered a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

CBP officers say they continued examining the luggage and discovered a pocketbook that also felt unusually heavy. Atkins' pocketbook was probed and it also revealed a white powdery substance that also tested positive for cocaine.

Atkins was arrested for the importation of a controlled substance and was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. The total weight of cocaine seized was approximately 3.7 lbs. with an approximate street value of more than US$64,000.

"This latest seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our CBP officers, and their excellence in detecting those who would try to smuggle these illegal substances," said Robert E. Perez, Director, Field Operations New York.

In recent months, several Caribbean nationals have been busted with cocaine at JFK including a Trinidad national who had tried to hide the drug in cooked goat meat.

Dancehall artiste Alkaline had to cut his set short in Surinam over the weekend, after he was booed by several patrons who didn't take kindly to the lyrics of the young artiste.

According to eye witnesses, the deejay was in the middle of performing one of his controversial songs when patrons began to boo the artiste and throw bottles on the stage. Sources say Alkaline tried to perform through the boos, however when bottles began to rain on the platform, he was forced to cut his set short.

Alkaline is known for his sexually laced lyrics and was condemned by some Jamaicans after the young deejay endorsed anal stimulation in one of his songs earlier this year.

Dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta was also booked for the show.

Armed unknown assailants invaded the home of dancehall artiste Danielle DI recently, seeking jewellery and other valuables.

The artiste is currently off the island, however her mother said.

"I have a little young man here with me. The bell rang and someone came and said there was something that wasn't signed. I told him to go and sign it. As he went and opened the gate, three of them rushed in with their big guns," the artiste's mother, who still sounded frightened, stated.

"I was in my bedroom and they came in. When I saw the men, they wanted gold and money. I said I have no gold to give you, I am an Adventist and they ransacked the place. Everybody was tied with electric wire and clothes," she continued, pointing out that the men remained 15 minutes in her bedroom.

She added that her first cousin, who was in the house on her bed at the time of the home invasion, was robbed of approximately $500,000 in chains, rings, a wrist bracelet and a watch. She was also relieved of her diabetic bracelet which she had been wearing for more than 25 years.

"They asked me for the money. I told them I do not have any. I said take my hand, bag and they opened them out onto the bed," she explained. Danielle DI's room had been searched, but only a Movado watch valued at over US$1,200 and a ring were taken.

The woman has remained at a loss as to how the men escaped, as the gate to the premises could only be opened by herself and a caretaker.

The Matilda's Corner police has confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association's (FCCA) annual keynote event, the Conference & Trade Show, has a 20-year history of increasing cruise tourism's impact for its host destinations by spotlighting their products, experiences and infrastructure to the industry's most influential decision makers-over 100 executives, presidents and CEOs from FCCA's 15 Member Lines, which operate over 100 ships in Caribbean and Latin American waters.

St. Maarten is looking to build onto their past growth by hosting their second FCCA Conference & Trade Show from October 6 - 10. The destination knows the significance of hosting this event because of their progress after their first Conference in 2003. In 2001, St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies reported 875,540 passenger arrivals. This number rose 70 percent to 1,490,386 in 2005, just two years after hosting the Conference.

As the destination knows, these numbers extend far beyond the cruise pier; they impact the entire economy. According to the Business Research & Economic Advisors (BREA) 2012 study, Economic Contribution of Cruise Tourism to the Destination Economies, the average expenditure per passenger in St. Maarten was $185.40, which benefitted numerous industries through purchases of goods that included food and beverage at restaurants and bars, clothing, shore excursions, ground transportation, local crafts and souvenirs, watches and jewelry, perfumes and cosmetics, electronics, entertainment/night clubs/casinos, retail purchases of liquor, and telephone and internet.

However, this is hardly the only economic contribution provided by cruise tourism. The same study showed that the average expenditure per crew in St. Maarten was $135.50 for similar products and services. Plus it revealed the direct and indirect employment generated by the cruise industry, totaling 8,123 jobs and $159.8 million in employee wages.

By these numbers, St. Maarten's 70 percent increase after hosting their first Conference would represent an increase of $114 million in passenger spending alone, along with the coinciding growth of crew spending, cruise line spending, and employment.

Projecting this same growth after this year's Conference would be aggressive, considering that in 2014 St. Maarten expects 1.67 million passenger arrivals onboard 523 vessels from FCCA Member Lines alone. But a single cruise ship has a large economic wake. BREA's figures show that just one average cruise vessel-130,000 GRT, 1,040 feet long, carrying 3,000 passengers and 500 crewmembers-would generate $556,200 in passenger spending and $67,750 in crew spending, along with roughly $15,000 in port fees, totaling $638,950 in direct economic contribution, not including employment and other indirect contributions.

Projecting a more conservative growth rate of 20 percent, or 105 additional cruise ship calls, would mean an extra $67 million per year directly contributed to St. Maarten's economy. Plus a 20 percent increase in cruise tourism-impacted employment would represent 1,625 more jobs with $32 million in wages.

Considering this potential economic impact, it becomes easy to understand why St. Maarten again decided to invest in its entire destination's economy by hosting the FCCA Conference & Trade Show.

About the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association

Created in 1972, the FCCA is a not-for-profit trade organization that provides a forum for discussion on tourism development, ports, safety, security, and other cruise industry issue and builds bilateral relationships with destinations' private and public sectors. Dancehall artiste Winky D says sharing the stage with Jamaican star Kalado at Belgravia Sports Club on Saturday will provide another opportunity for him to prove his class, following an alleged bottle throwing at an event he performed at in Africa.

Jonathan Banda, the artiste's manager, told the Daily News yesterday that Winky D's international class is the main reason why he is usually the most natural choice to share the stage with touring foreign artistes.

"Winky D is regularly called to share the stage with top foreign musicians because his standard has reached international levels," said Banda.

"Winky D's camp is very happy because it shows that both music promoters and music fans have confidence in the Ninja President."

Banda also revealed that the Musarova Bigman star has benefitted from sharing the stage with several international artistes.

Apart from Winky D, the Kalado concert will also feature local dancehall favourites Dadza D and Kinnah.

Gate charges for the show have been pegged at $20 for the VIP section while tickets for the rest of the venue will go for $5.

Digital One International, the promoters of the concert have also lined up a number of activities for the Jamaican deejay at various night spots in the capital in the build-up to the concert including a welcome party that was scheduled for the Beer Engine club at Jameson Hotel last night.

Kalado, born Eton Gordon in 1984 in Kingston, is one of the rising dancehall stars on the Jamaican and global dancehall scenes in recent years since catching the eye of producer Scatta Burrell during the 2008 edition of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall television show.

Kalado's fortunes on the dancehall scene have flourished under the wings of Bounty Killer.

His increasing repertoire includes hits like Good Good, Body Nuh Dead, Make Me Feel, Sad Streets, Pree Money, Pay Dem No Mind, Bad Inna Bed and Take A Ride.

Tarrus Riley Goes on tour

Webmin

tarrus-riley.jpg

While it is arguably much more expensive and time-consuming to produce a live show, artistes, promoters and the general public all agree that everyone benefits more from live events. In an effort to find a way to take huge, quality-produced shows across the island, Martin Lewis, CEO of One Nation Event Entertainment Limited, and Shane Brown of Juke Boxx have teamed up on a new entertainment format that will allow fans to see their favourite artistes performing live closer to home.

The On Tour series recently got started with reggae artiste Tarrus Riley performing at four different venues across the island on the weekend. The first two On Tour series will be sponsored by Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, with an option to extend their sponsorship contract.

According to Lewis, who has a background in the area of production, he recognised the void in Jamaica for the average person to be able to enjoy a good show.

"Most people don't get to go to Jazz & Blues or Sumfest because they are only held in certain centres. It's as if those people don't count. I've spent 20 years touring, and that is what touring is about - bringing the product to the people. On Tour also aims to ensure that artistes become more invested in their presentation, and it also encourages the artistes to realise their real worth," he said.

"This is our promise; we are taking a 'big show' to small venues across Jamaica to the people. Extreme efforts will be made on the show production and the experience," he added.

Brown agreed, adding that following Riley's islandwide tour, Morgan Heritage will be the next featured act.

"Not all acts are fully equipped musically to perform a 90-minute concert. One of the first things we look at is the repertoire of the acts and the quality of their presentation. This is a new series and I work very closely with both Tarrus and Morgan Heritage, but we have a lot of artistes to approach, but for now, it's who is willing to work with us, but the quality of presentation, I'd say, is definitely an attraction for us," Brown said.

Though the resurgence of live music has generally been about reggae acts, Brown was quick to point out that dancehall artistes would also be included in the series.

"From a dancehall artiste is equipped to put on a clean, quality performance, we are all for it," he stated.

Brown also went on to say that On Tour will not only feature young artistes, but that the event was open to all.

"Our culture needs an appreciation for artistes who are not popular with today's generation, but these same artistes have paved the way for us. Only a few shows in Jamaica accommodate live music. If patrons get accustomed to these types of concert settings, then they'll definitely have a greater appreciation for our music. Promoters will also have an open mind and will have less acts on more nights. So instead of a three-day festival, we could have a weeklong festival," Brown said.

According to Brown, this series will be able to propel artistes further into international markets.

"An artiste can learn to improve his craft. This is an open arena for all local artistes to step up their game. We can use these performances to send the artistes to the world. Once the performance goes viral, it can definitely open new markets for the artiste," Brown said.

One Jam Music hosts successful charity

The back-to-school season has just about concluded and many parents are tallying up the enormous expenses incurred in sending their young charges back to school. Fortunately for some parents, the music fraternity provided significant aid to offset some of the costs of going back to school. A number of artistes including Konshens and Cherine Anderson hosted back-to-school treats; however, the biggest of these treats appears to have been the One Jam Foundation/Tenament Yard treat for communities off Maxfield Avenue.

The treat held on August 20 brought out thousands of adults and children from impoverished inner city communities off the Maxfield such as Gem Road, William Road, Lincoln Ave, Villa, Trench Town, Jungle, and Rome. In addition to receiving well needed school supplies, attendees were treated to rides, games, and musical performances from household names such as Morgan's Heritage, Hezron, and Chuck Fender and from rising stars such as Abby Dallas and JayQ. Musical director of Morgan's Heritage and a longtime resident of the area, Producer DreZion, who coordinated the events on the ground, was overjoyed to see thousands of people out enjoying the festivities and partaking of the bountiful gifts on offer. The atmosphere was so jovial that a large police contingent headed by senior officers Steve McGregor and Fitz Bailey, who were amazed to see many people from rival communities living in love, came out to personally meet the organizers.

According to Lance Dyer, founder of The One Jam Foundation, "The treat was a resounding success. One Jam's and Tenament Yard's founders were both born and at least partially raised in the ghetto, so we understand the difficulties that many families in the ghetto face to get their children ready for each new school year. We also understand that education is one of the surest paths to elevation, so we think it is critical for us to support the ambitions of those who are less fortunate.  We believe in giving, not just in giving back, so we are not going to wait until our organizations are successful to contribute from our own resources to a charitable cause. That said, we are exceedingly grateful to our sponsors such as MPR Consulting, Pepsi/Ocean Spray, COK Credit Union, and LIME Antigua and to artistes such as Morgan Heritage, Hezron, Chuck Fenda, I-Wayne, Abby Dallas, and JayQ who all agreed to perform voluntarily for the treat."

Reggae artiste Fantan Mojah recently electrified the over 20,000 reggae fans that turned out to the 20th anniversary of Reggae Jam Festival hosted in Germany.

The Rasta Got Soul, who has developed a strong fan-base in Europe and Africa, delivered a high energy and interactive set, which led to the audience giving an encore.

What you cannot do, however, is spring a loaded question on him regarding his prior sexual assault conviction in the middle of a live television broadcast.

This is the scene that played out Wednesday afternoon when Tyson sat down with CP24 Toronto News anchor Nathan Downer.

In Toronto to promote his one-man show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, Tyson stopped by the studio for an interview with Downer. Ostensibly expecting a couple cupcake questions and a handshake, Tyson found himself in the crosshairs when Downer ambushed the boxer with a question regarding his recent meet-and-greet with Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

Specifically, Downer wanted to know if Tyson - onvicted sex offender - had further damaged Ford's re-election campaign by associating with the mayor.

911-never-forget.jpg
NEW YORK -- With The Star-Spangled Banner, a bagpipe tribute and a moment of silence, a ceremony marking the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks solemnly kicked off in Lower Manhattan on Thursday.

The White House marked the anniversary with a moment of silence. Events also took place at the Pentagon and the field in Shanksville, Pa., where the other planes crashed that day.

In New York, the roll call of the victims began shortly after 8:46 a.m., the same time 13 years ago that the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center.

Faith Tieri read several names including that of her brother, Sal Edward Tieri, Jr. "Your memory and my love for you will last forever," she said. "This day should be a day of reflection and memory only."

Mary Ann Marino also read names including that of her son, Kenneth Marino. "We love you," she said. "We miss you everyday. You are in our hearts and we cherish the memories."

Others reading names included a young man who had never met his uncle killed on 9/11, a wife who lost her husband of 30 years and Barbara Pandolfo whose only child, a daughter, was killed.

As the readings continued, some family members stood silently staring at those uttering the victims' names. Others pushed strollers holding children who were not yet born during the terrorist attacks while some walked around the memorial looking at the names etched into the nearby memorial.

LONDON - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second child, Britain's royal family said Monday in a brief statement.

No delivery date was given for the new baby -- brother or sister to Prince George, who was born in July 2013.

Clarence House, the office for Prince William and Duchess Catherine, said the queen and members of both families were "delighted with the news."

British Prime Minister David Cameron also offered his congratulations to the royal pair.

Earlier Monday, the duchess, 32, broke off an official engagement to receive treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness.

She also suffered from that condition when she was pregnant with George.

The latest royal arrival will be fourth in line to the throne, pushing William's brother, Harry, further down the pecking order.

The Islamic State has released a video purporting to show a masked militant beheading a second captured American journalist, and threatening to kill a British hostage.

The footage, which is yet to be verified by the US, shows Steven Sotloff, who disappeared in Syria last year, dressed in orange and on his knees in a desert landscape.

The family of the 31-year-old freelancer says they are aware of the "horrific tragedy" and are grieving privately.

Sotloff appeared on his knees at the end of an IS video last month showing the execution of fellow US journalist James Foley, and the pleas since for his release have been ignored.

Sotloff's purported executioner, who speaks in a British accent similar to that of Foley's killer, blames the ongoing US strikes against IS for the murder.

"I'm back, Obama, and I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State," the militant said.

"So just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people."

-- n the video, Sotloff said he was "paying the price" for the US intervention in Iraq with his life.

Early last month the US began air strikes against IS targets in Iraq, while Australian planes have delivered aid to outgunned Kurdish fighters.

The militant in the video also issued a threat against a British hostage the group named as David Haines.

In Washington, the White House said it could not immediately verify the video of Sotloff's beheading.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the US intelligence services would "work as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity".

"If the video is genuine, we are sickened by this brutal act taking the life of another innocent American citizen," she said.

"Our hearts go out to the Sotloff family and we will provide more information as it becomes available."

turmeric-c-ws.jpg

From many years awareness of turmeric and its use as medicine is continuously increasing. A flowering plant, Turmeric, in the ginger family, is commonly used as a food coloring and is one of the basic ingredients in curry powder. To heal many health disorders like liver problems, digestive disorders, treatment for skin diseases and wound healing turmeric has long been used in Medicinal as an anti-inflammatory. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric which has been shown to have a wide range of therapeutic effects.

Digestive Disorders

Turmeric is considered as a digestive bitter and a carminative. It can be added into foods including rice and bean dishes to improve digestion, reduce gas and bloating. It is a cholagogue, stimulating bile production in the liver and encouraging excretion of bile via the gallbladder. This improves the body's ability to digest fats. For chronic digestive weakness and/or congestion turmeric is recommended. It can be taken as a single extract or in the form of digestive bitters, which combine turmeric with other bitter and carminative herbs. Turmeric is beneficial for people who feel tired after consuming meals or who experience gas and bloating. Whatever way turmeric is consumed it is beneficial to both the digestive system and the liver.

Liver Diseases

Turmeric is beneficial for its influence on the liver. In spring more consumption of herbs and foods can strengthen the liver. Turmeric shares similar liver protectant compounds that milk thistle and artichoke leaves contain. It is said to shrink engorged hepatic ducts, so it can be useful to treat liver conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and jaundice.

Cancer

Recent scientific research confirm that turmeric can cure host of diseases, also they found that turmeric restrain the growth of various types of cancer. Turmeric is used for the treatment of skin cancer or pre cancerous skin conditions. Both topical and internal uses are beneficial.

Atherosclerosis

Turmeric may helpful in preventing the blockage of arteries that can gradually cause a heart attack or stroke in one of two ways. Turmeric makes cholesterol levels low and inhibited the oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol). Oxidized LDL deposits in the walls of blood vessels and contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaque. Turmeric may also prevent platelet build up along the walls of an injured blood vessel. Platelets collecting at the site of a damaged blood vessel cause blood clots to form and blockage of the artery as well.

Osteoarthritis

Turmeric may help relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis because of its ability to reduce pain and disability.

Menstrual problems of Woman

For women who experience monthly menstrual cramps, try using turmeric extract or bitters twice daily for two weeks prior to expected menstruation. Turmeric is an antispasmodic to smooth muscles so it reduces digestive and menstrual cramping. It should reduce the severity of pain, if not ease them completely. Certainly, diet and standard of living have a reflective influence on the menstrual cycle, but turmeric is a great addition.

Bacterial Infection / Wounds

Turmeric is useful as an external antibiotic in preventing bacterial infection in wounds.

Eye Disorder

Curcumin may prove to be as effective as corticosteroids in the uveitis (inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye between the sclera - white outer coat of the eye and the retina - the back of the eye) the type of eye disorder.

Other Health Disorders

Turmeric decreases congestion and inflammation from stagnant mucous membranes. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory to the mucous membranes, which coat the throat, lungs, stomach and intestines. Regular use of turmeric can benefit from Colitis, Crohn's disease, diarrhea, and post-giardia or post salmonella conditions. The itching and inflammation that accompanies hemorrhoids and anal fissures can reduce by use of turmeric. Turmeric can also benefit skin conditions including: eczema, psoriasis and acne, for those it is potent detoxifier.

"Turmeric gives the energy of the Divine Mother and grants prosperity of health. Turmeric is effectual for purification the chakras, as well as purifying the path of the subtle body."

Remember when a website was leaking nude pictures of popular Jamaicans sometime ago, including Denyque? Well a similar situation has occurred in America, actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Ariana Grande have so far been victims among others.

Jennifer Lawrence's reps have warned that anyone posting 'stolen' nude photos of the Oscar-winning actress will be prosecuted.

The explicit photos of JLaw were leaked online and spread on Twitter like wildfire on Sunday night.

Buzzfeed reports that photos of Lawrence, as well as other stars such as model Kate Upton, singer Ariana Grande and actress Victoria Justice, first appeared on 4chan.

The snaps allegedly surfaced due to an iCloud leak that allowed celebrities phones to be hacked.

Jennifer Lawrence and J-Law started trending on Twitter as soon as the photos leaked. We will not share the photos, but you can Google them.

By fostering an understanding of the cruise industry and its operating practices, the FCCA works with governments, ports and private sector representatives to maximize cruise passenger, crew and cruise line spending, as well as enhance the destination experience and increase the amount of cruise passengers returning as stay-over visitors.

Tarrus Riley Goes on tour

tarrus-riley.jpg

Ishawna, she might have been what they call a pretty dunce in her class. In her recent single Need Love, she says "Mi a guh return him back inna di morning" you can say 'return him back'. That's like saying the car reversed back or pushing forward...get it? Its what we call a redundancy. Google it.

Elephant Man

Second US journalist beheaded

Yardflex Health Corner: Turmeric Medicinal Use

turmeric-c-ws.jpg

By fostering an understanding of the cruise industry and its operating practices, the FCCA works with governments, ports and private sector representatives to maximize cruise passenger, crew and cruise line spending, as well as enhance the destination experience and increase the amount of cruise passengers returning as stay-over visitors. kalado-photo-5.jpg

Mike Tyson tells Journalist Fuck You on Live TV

You can do many things with Mike Tyson.

You can chat about tigers, race pigeons across the Sierra Madre and trick him into pronouncing the word "thistle."

Ishawna, she might have been what they call a pretty dunce in her class. In her recent single Need Love, she says "Mi a guh return him back inna di morning" you can say 'return him back'. That's like saying the car reversed back or pushing forward...get it? Its what we call a redundancy. Google it.

Second US journalist beheaded

Turmeric may help relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis because of its ability to reduce pain and disability.

Menstrual problems of Woman

Certainly, diet and standard of living have a reflective influence on the menstrual cycle, but turmeric is a great addition.

Bacterial Infection / Wounds

Turmeric is useful as an external antibiotic in preventing bacterial infection in wounds.

Other Health Disorders

Turmeric decreases congestion and inflammation from stagnant mucous membranes. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory to the mucous membranes, which coat the throat, lungs, stomach and intestines.

According to Justus, Foota Hype banned him and the rhythm from his event, and took jabs at him on instagram.

Justus who also replied to the jab on instagram, says Foota Hype is a gyal clown, who has no class, because he proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of a dancehall setting.

Foota Hype denies carrying any form of malice for either Justus or Ishawna.
