John Holt Collapses onstage in UK

Chairman of the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes and Affiliates (JAVAA), Frankie Campbell, is wishing singer John Holt a speedy and lasting recovery, following his recent collapse onstage at the One Love Festival in Springfield in the United Kingdom.

Campbell said that the I Want A Love I Can Feel singer did an operation last month and was, perhaps, back in action too early.

"I just think he went back to performing too early. We don't want to lose anybody else at this point in Jamaican music - certainly, not Holt," Campbell said.

The JAVAA chairman and bass player in Fab 5 Band also encourages performers to ensure that they are covered by an effective health-insurance policy, as sickness and death are inevitable.

"We want to know that our musicians are healthy as possible. In Fab 5, we have an insurance programme, because health is vital. We can't afford to lose somebody like Holt, because he is one of the few living vintage artistes who have been holding up the music in the four corners of earth," Campbell said.

"John has been extensively touring and we want him to continue spreading the music."

The singer continues to receive treatment at an undisclosed location.

The 2014 One Love Festival was dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela. The second live stage at the venue was renamed The Madiba Stage this year, in honour of the late freedom fighter and former president of South Africa. The stage was formerly called Soul Adventurers.

The line-up included Cocoa Tea, John Holt, The Wailing Souls, Brushy One String, Cornel Campbell with Soothsayers, Macka B and the Roots Reggae Band, Michael Prophet, Addis Pablo, Gary Clail Sound System, Gorgon Sound System featuring Bunny Lee, King Kong, Nerieus Joseph with Sereus Band, Jesse Royal, Apache Indian, Saxon Sound Marque.

John Holt started his musical career in 1963 with I Cried a Tear, a record produced by Leslie Kong. However, his prominence locally came as the lead singer of The Paragons. They recorded several hit records like Ali Baba, Tonight and I See Your Face for producer Duke Reid at his Treasure Isle Studio.

Holt left The Paragons in 1970 and concentrated on his solo career, Stick By Me coming in 1972.

Jcan Media has learnt that about three months ago, a female second-form student at the school visited the office of the guidance counsellor, after she was experiencing personal challenges.

It is understood that the professional service of the counsellor was administered to the student, following which the service as a pastor was offered by way of prayer for the minor.

bobby-shmurda.jpg

Jamaican rapper Bobby Shmurda has sparked a dance craze called the Shmoney Dance with his single Hot Ni**a. The rapper is based in New York and has received over 10 million views for the song and was recently signed by Epic Records.

Controversial cultural Hip Hop critic and media personality Charlamage recently commended the rapper for his overnight success. He also credited the rapper's ability to get people dancing to his Jamaican background. Charlamange also said Bobby Shmurda reminded him of iconic Jamaican rapper Heavy D.

"I like Bobby Shmurda, you know why? Because he is having fun. He is Jamaican, and he makes people dance in the club. I don't know when New Yorkers got too cool to dance. Heavy D used to dance. I was in London and the first song the DJ played was Bobby Shmurda, and the entire club was wilding," the usually tough critic said.

Hot Nia has several cover versions from several underground and commercially successful rappers, including Acehood, T.I., Juicy J, Corey Gunz, French Montana, and Lil Kim. Several stars including Beyonce´, Chris Brown, Meek Mill, and K. Michelle have also posted videos of themselves doing the comedic Shmurda dance move. Elephant Man also released a song called Shmoney Dance in an attempt to improve the song's popularity in Jamaica.

dancing-returns-to-dancehall.jpg

After a relatively long drought, dancing is making a return to the dancehall scene. According to Bling Dawg aka Bawse Dawg, who is leading the movement with his Esco produced dance single called Kreech, dancehall is a seasonal genre and it's now dancing season.

Their dance moves which are very popular in the dancehall at present are the Sivva dance move created by Ding Dong and the Ravers Clavers, as well as the Moggla dance move popularised by Flippa Moggla and Voicemail.

Local dancer John Bling expressed happiness at the early signs that dancing is making a return. The dancer says he feels proud that his We Are The Dance campaign was not in vain.

"Mi feel good sey it a return, the dancers protested and we kept meetings to bring back dancing into the dancehall and now wi see the profits of our efforts. I guarantee that by the end of the year everybody will be dancing again and dancers soon start tour again," John Bling said.

Site releases list of artistes who Should Climb Zip FM Tower to boost dying careers

Here are a list of artistes that should perhaps follow suicidal dancehall artiste iKon D Link and climb the tower of Zip Fm in an attempt to revive their dying careers.

alkaline-photo-5.jpg
Alkaline

This young artiste, damaged his own reputation by endorsing battywash while living in an homophobic country. Battywash is using the tongue to stimulate the rectum. Alkaline needs to climb the tower and beg the Jamaican fanbase to forgive him or if not...JUMP!

black-ryno-photo-1.jpgBlack Ryno

This deejay fell from grace after leaving Vybz Kartel's Gaza alleging that he was assaulted by Kartel's men. His career has never been the same since. They say Popcaan stole his style and made it more catchy. But we say, climb the Zip FM tower and beg Liquid some airplay or Jump!!

bramma-photo-1.jpg
Bramma

This artiste has been signed to Bigship Records for over a decade and has failed to win one dancehall fan or solidify himself as a relevant dancehall artiste. Any artiste who was signed to Bigship during their most successful era in music and didnt buss, definitely needs to climb the Zip FM tower and beg some airtime...or JUMP!

chase-cross.jpgChase Cross

This rapjay is signed to Mavado's Gully Side camp. He had a lil flame going for his career in late 2000s, but dissed Bounty Killer and has been on a downward spiral since. Chase Cross needs to definitely jump from the Zip Fm tower...or beg Bounty Killer for forgiveness.

d-angel-photo-2-large.jpg
D Angel

She was only on the radio during her marriage to dancehall artiste Beenie Man. The controversy boosted her popularity, but as soon as cheating issues surfaced and the marriage ended, so did her career. D Angel needs to climb that Zip FM tower and beg Liquid a strength.

deablo-jop.jpgDeablo J.O.P

Deablo this fresh act is a founding member of Aidonia's camp. To date Deablo is one of the hardest artiste to buss, despite being quite lyrical. It is either Aidonia's fans are not loyal to his artistes or he clearly needs a change of camp. Anyway Deablo needs to climb the Zip FM tower and beg for airplay or just JUMP!

iyara.jpg
Iyara

This Alliance artiste has been a part of the crew for almost a decade and is yet to breakout. Iyara needs to go wash off at Portland mineral or climb that Zip FM tower and Jump. "DJ Liquid could you please assist in this young man's career?" . Even Kalado join Alliance yesterday and buss leave Iyara...and again its not because he is not good.smh

justus.jpgJustus (the white dude)

Ja Productions producer Justus, has not received a hit rhythm since his friend and partner Roach was sadly murdered while leaving an event. Justus needs to climb that tower and demand some respect for Roach's legacy.

masicka.jpg
Masicka

This young artiste Masicka is not witty lyrically, but he definitely has good rhyming skills and good flows. However he has dissed almost 90% of the music industry and basically blackballed himself. Masicka needs to climb the Zip FM pole and beg forgiveness from all the artistes he dissed that are suffocating his career, because obviously Konshens can't save him, he couldn't even save Delus or Darrio. Not even radio play can help you obviously. So apologize or else JUMP!

mavado-photo-8.jpgMavado

This artiste has been in the U.S for over three years and has collaborated with over 10 hip hop artistes including Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj. However his debut album was a failure and he is yet to sell any records, not even with his collaborations. Unlike Bounty Killer who sold platinum with No Doubt or even Busy Signal who sold platinum in Europe with Major Lazer. Seriously Mavado cant even sell platinum in Europe? He definitely should climb the Empire State building in the U.S and JUMP or if you want to go the radio route, there must be a high enough tower at Hot 97 or Power 105.

mr-peppa-photo-1.jpgMr Peppa

This artiste received two hit songs in the early 2000s but has failed to make an impact since. He recently tried with a Bounty Killer collab, but we think its best if he climbed the Zip FM tower for some inspiration...maybe something with JUMP in his mind.

popcaan-photo-1.jpgPopcaan

Popcaan was soaring under the Gaza camp, making friends with Drake and other rappers. However as soon as Vybz Kartel kicked him to the curb for his alleged disloyalty, the artiste has been struggling to make hits with fluidity. He is already getting plays at Zip FM. So we think he should climb the prison wall and plead to Vybz Kartel, so that he can get regain relevance.

potential-kidd-image-1.jpgPotential Kidd

This Trench Town artiste rose to overnight stardom with A Ya Suh Nice, however his career ended as soon as it started after persons began to complain about his controversial lyrics in the single. He also suffered another serious career blow when his manager/cousin, robbed all his money from tour and left him flat broke. Potential Kidds needs a break, help him out Zip FM. Nuh badda mek him jump.

predator.jpgPredator

This deejay had a wave of hits in early 2000, however his music quickly faded as other catchy slangs replaced his 'mad' antics. Predator just climb Zip tower and do what any mad man would do...

radijah.jpgRadijah

This fresh act tattooed his face to get attention and here it is its working, because he made the list. However unlike his tattoo, his music has failed to stand out in the public domain. Like iKon D Link, we think Radijah should be looking for the highest tower to JUMP!

raine.jpgRaine Seville

Sexy she definitely is, and sex appeal she has, but Raine Seville is really one of the hardest balloons to burst in the local music industry. She has worked with some of the biggest names in local production and is yet to stamp her name as a brand. She already tried the stripping down shock value, so I guess all that is left for her to do is try the Zip FM tower and JUMP for the air play!

mr-lexx-photo-1.jpgMr Lexx

This veteran deejay had a lot going for him in the 90s until he crashed his own career by getting married to a groupie, after the marriage crumbled so did his career. He further sank himself deeper after he messed around and lost his U.S visa. Mr Lexx has released several songs in recent times, with none making an impact. Maybe he should have cemented himself in Europe when he was hot, instead of running down Jamaica hype and U.S hype. But there is always that faithful Zip FM pole waiting on you, when woman and music have failed.

Note the comments do not represent Yardflex.

Multitalented Music Artist, Deejay, Actor and Dancer, "John Bling" is presently in Jamaica, but preparing for his European Promotion Tour, beginning in the UK for his newly-released music Video for "We Are the Dance". For which a clothing line has begun for the "We Are the Dance" movement. There are currently T-Shirts and Hoodies of all colors available for purchase.

You may watch the video for "WE ARE THE DANCE":

John was also featured in the upcoming blockbuster feature film, "JAMAICAN MAFIA", which will also be touring across the United States very soon.

John's role as one of the Jamaican Mobsters and his music once accepted will be featured on the up and coming soundtrack of the US Feature Film, "JAMAICAN MAFIA", written by and starring Mykal Fax, as well as Jamaican greats Paul Campbell, Roger Roger, Nardo Ranks, Glamour Wayne and D'Angel. His manager, Ms. Dale Foti, is Executive Producer and Production Manager on this film.

You may watch the video for "JAMAICAN MAFIA OFFICIAL TRAILER":

"We Are the Dance" is a Dancehall song written by John Bling (Ambassador for the Dancers of Jamaica and Dancehall) and featuring well-known Jamaican dancers and artists, plus the first ever world famous Dancehall Queen, "Carlene", whose name and persona is also mentioned in the song, as well as Donnaray Roc, CEO of internationally-known Dancerz Boulevard. The first portion of the video was shot by Nigel Angus and Jamal Jones of One Shot Lens Productions in the USA and the second portion was filmed in Jamaica with the artists and dancers there, courtesy of Ian Jarret, Avalanch and Christopher Lewis of ABSTRACT VISIONS. Some New York based dancers featured were Spikes,Chin Bling Byrd Focus, Kendra Legz and Fyah Theater Productions. The song is performed by Jamaican Dance Pioneers Sadiki, Ding Dong, John Bling, Boysie, Mad Michelle, Queen Latesha, Craigy Dread, Keiva Di Diva and Latonya Styles with lead vocalist Don Frisco. It's an All-Star Dancers Anthem which was recorded as an initiative to give a voice for the dance fraternity, demonstrating their importance on the dancehall scene. The endeavor was organized by Latonya Styles and Keiva Di Diva, Produced by Danny Champagne (Champagne Records). John just recently shot the video for this song in long Island City, NY and some of the authentic Jamaican Dancehall Artists featured on the song participated.

This song has a very special meaning because, as featured on the front page of the Jamaica Star recently, the authentic Jamaican Dancehall Dancers are not being featured in the popular artists' Intl music videos and therefore not being financially supported for their talents. After all, this is where the dance form originated and most Jamaican Artists who were fortunate enough to successfully crossover to mainstream should be supporting their culture by relying on these dancers to deliver the best possible performance of the dance.

chris-gayle-photo-1.jpg
News Americas, LONDON, England, Thurs. Aug. 14, 2014: Never one to mince words or hold his tongue, West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle is at it again, this time turning his wrath on the government of his homeland of Jamaica.

Gayle, in an interview with The London Telegraph, claims he is "disappointed" that he has not gotten the level of accolades and respect from Jamaica's politicians like Trinidad has given to Brian Lara.

The top batsman, who hit two triple centuries in his career, one against South Africa in 2005 and the other against Sri Lanka in 2010, said despite this achievement, he's "never even saw a camera at the airport."

"I am so disappointed in the Jamaican government," Gayle told The Telegraph. "I'm just asking for a little decency and a little acknowledgment. I've scored two triple centuries and I never even saw at a camera at the airport. That hurt."

Gayle, who leads a very social life, even last week telling his Twitter followers when he was about to have "sex," said he has "seen other people, who have not done anything at all for Jamaica, receiving lots of privilege" but he has received none.

He also revealed, without disclosing what his denied request was, that he has asked "twice for a small favor, and neither time did they say yes."

Added Gayle: "I guess when you die, all the good things are said about you. But in life, if you have something to say or offer, do it now. Don't wait until the person is dead and gone to say: 'Oh, he was such a great player, he did all of this.'

"It's just the way I feel, and I want to express myself. There, I've said it, and I don't have any regrets. The government will get my message, and that's important."

Gayle reportedly earns a combined $9 million annually and plays for four franchises across the globe.

After being pressured into playing a song by an aspiring dancehall artiste who threatened to commit suicide if his song was not played by him, disc jockey ZJ Liquid has made it clear that he will not be playing the song in its present format again.

Liquid told the media, "No! I will not be playing it again, maybe if him do it over and do it properly, I might consider doing it."

Twenty-four-year-old aspiring dancehall artiste Jyquan O'brian, who goes by the moniker Ikon d Link, stunned the nation yesterday evening, when he climbed an extremely tall ZIP FM transmission pole and threatened to jump if ZJ Liquid did not play his song.

According to reports, Ikon visited the radio station to speak with Liquid, but was told he could not as the disc jock was already on air. He was denied entry but in defiance, the artiste sneaked past security and climbed the station's pole, threatening to take his life if his song called Stress was not played.

stylysh-ishawna.jpg
Stylysh has denied that her song 'Secret Lovers', which features Ishawna, is intended to be a pro-lesbian record.

According to the deejay, critics have misunderstood her concept and have drawn the conclusion that she and Ishawna were serenading each other.

Stylysh admitted that the wording to the lyrics can be misleading, but was adamant that her intentions were pure.

"I think people are drawing that conclusion because we are two females, and the way wi a flow di lyrics. is when I upload the song on YouTube, and people start comment sey it sound like we are singing to each other, mi realise sey it can be misleading, but the truth is that wasn't intended. I was talking about my secret lovers and she was talking about hers. But I guess because the world is changing so much, people are reading into everything they listen to," Stylysh said.

Secret Lovers was produced by Hitmaker Music productions. The ladies are aiming to film a music video for the song in coming weeks. Stylysh also says the promotional flyer, which shows her hugging Ishawna from behind, is an innocent photo.

"Girls hug all the time, and that nothing to read into". She said. Ishawna recently ended her relationship with DJ Foota Hype.

Dancehall artiste Agent Sasco, otherwise known as Assassin, has made another step into the hip-hop music industry, following his collaboration with Kanye West in 2013 called 'I'm In It', which was featured on the gold-selling album 'Yeezus'.

The deejay has been featured on another rap record, this time with veteran rap artiste Raekwon and Canadian R&B billboard-charting singer Melanie Fiona.

Raekwon is a member of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group which was certified four-times platinum by the RIAA for their album Wu-Tang Forever, released in 1997.

The single featuring Agent Sasco is called Soundboy Kill It, and sees the rapper and deejay delivering hard-core lyrics to give listeners a dub-plate-inspired effort. In the song, Agent Sasco belts: "Sound fi dead the whol' clique a dem, when mi sey di sound dead all di tweeter dem".

raekwon.jpg

"I was in the studio in New York, and they played me the song and said I should do something on it, and as simple as that, we recorded it. We give thanks for the opportunities that come along to represent our music on a certain level. What I want to do, and will continue to do when I collaborate with rap artistes, is to represent dancehall and Jamaican culture. So, yu nah catch me rapping. And we have other things in the pipeline that we can't speak about as yet, but the massive can look out for more Assassin-hip-hop fusion," the artiste said.

The deejay was also featured on US-based hip-hop radio station Hot 97.

Medical doctor and recording artiste Shaka Pow is gearing up to make a return to the music industry.

According to the artiste, who compares himself to Superman because of his dual personality, he had taken a break to focus on medicine. However, with the return of old-school dancehall rhythms, he believes the climate is right to make a return.

Shaka Pow says he has proven his worth in the medical field and now feels the need to do the same for his second passion. The deejay has his eyes set on the international market, citing that his songs were more accepted in places like the United States, Japan and Germany.

The deejay is gearing up to release a new mixtape called The Baddest Dancehall Mixtape Ever. The project features dancing songs, social commentary and roots-reggae music and was mixed by Shaka Pow's younger brother, Cha Baby.

The deejay recently joined forces with veteran dancehall producer Snow Cone, who achieved Billboard success with dancehall star Sean Paul. Now, the collaboration between Snow Cone and Shaka Pow has given birth to a new single called Best Babyfather, which is featured on the old school-flavoured 'Nuh Fraid' rhythm.

The rhythm also features veterans like Mr Vegas, Mad Cobra, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Capleton, Terry Ganzi and Sizzla Kalonji.

He is also promoting the new Swing Dance.

Reggae artiste Super Beagle is gearing up to release a new album, as he hopes to build on his renewed popularity after being sampled by Grammy Award-winning rapper Kanye West for his multi-platinum selling single, Mercy.

Kanye West borrowed the intro from Super Beagle's single, Dust A Sound Boy, which is regarded locally as one of the strongest sound clash singles of all time.

The singer says online sales for Dust A Sound Boy has improved since Kanye West did the sample, and although he was tight-lipped about actual figures, he made it clear that the returns from publishing are at an all-time high.

"Since the sample, the work turn up more again. I was living in the US for a while with my family, so many persons didn't realize that Super Beagle was the one behind such a classic record, but now, due to the success of Mercy (by Kanye West), I am back to work. The song is selling, and publishing looks good and will even get better as certain things continue to iron out," Super Beagle said.

The iconic reggae artiste recently moved back to Jamaica in order to concentrate on producing new music. He says while living in the US had its benefits, the environment is not necessarily the best to produce authentic Jamaican music.

"You have shows here and there, and I had my own reggae band touring with. But to do real reggae music and get the feeling right, you have to be in Jamaica, or else it just won't feel right, and it's harder to connect with the people. With this new gravitation to my music, the best place to be is yard, and so I am here producing music and working on the album," he said.

The album, called Heart of Love, will be distributed by VP Records and was self-produced by Super Beagle via his 20-year-old record label, Fresh Breed productions. The artiste has already released one single from the album, called Mama Cry. The single features Terror Fabulous and has been getting favourable rotation worldwide. An accompanying music video was recently released on local TV and can be viewed on YouTube.com. Super Beagle is also making preparations for a promotional tour of Europe and the US.

Kanye West's Mercy, with Super Beagle's sample, peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and hit number one on both the US Billboard Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. The record also sold over 2 million copies in the US, as of October 2012.

kalado-photo-4.jpg
Dynamic dancehall artistes, Kalado and Spice are as disappointed as their fans that, owing to a lack of professionalism on the part of the organisers, their highly anticipated, joint summer tour of Europe has been cancelled. The two entertainers should have left Jamaica this week to kick off what was scheduled to be a month-long European tour starting on August 7th and ending on August 30th. Both artistes were looking forward to touring together for the first time, in addition to which, this would have been Kalado's first European tour.

The respective management teams for the artistes have disclosed that a lack of dutiful preparation from Kayamoves, the highly recommended, Europe-based agency which was handling all the details of the proposed tour, led to an unfortunate breakdown in communications. After experiencing many challenges during the four-month preparation time for the tour and receiving vital information from Kayamoves in an ad hoc manner, things finally fell apart.

spice-photo-3.jpg

"We were informed less than two weeks prior to the beginning of the tour that the itinerary was not complete, after several attempts weeks prior to that requesting the touring schedule and information. The proposed tour was in the works for almost four months and up to this day we have not received a final itinerary to approve from the Agency," the management teams said in a joint statement.

Kalado and his management team have stated that they have no option but to distance themselves from Kayamoves and is informing the public that they have no agreement with Kayamoves and the agency is not authorized to book any shows for Kalado. All promoters who are interested in booking Kalado for Europe are advised to contact Montrevail Agencies on 514-375-0388 or at montrevail@live.com and for Spice, Khool International Booking Agency at 876-877-5956.

Kalado and Spice have expressed their apologies to their fans and note that they regret being denied the opportunity to showcase their summer catalogue and perform their several hit songs live and direct in front of a welcoming European crowd.

However, they will be working on some future dates together as they bring their talent and their catalogue to centrestage. Both artistes are hot on the scene, with Kalado presently #1 on the Richie B Jamaica Countdown Charts with Personally and Spice continues her dominance with hot remixes and new songs Like a Man which she performed to an enthusiastic crowd at Reggae Sumfest.

They are being given a free ride through the toll for one month, but after that, Class 1 vehicles will pay $200; Class 2 vehicles, $420; and Class 3, $1,000.

The opening ceremony for the new highway took place yesterday at Treadways, St. Catherine, and Minister of Transport, Works and Housing Dr. Omar Davies told journalists that while motorists are being given free access to the roadway for a month, drivers should follow the stipulated guidelines.

He said the Government would be working assiduously to ensure that the other two legs of the project are completed in short order.

Drivers are being asked to exercise caution in order to avoid accidents on the newly open roadway.

stacious-photo-2.jpg
Dancehall artiste Stacious has confirmed that unscrupulous persons have been trying to defraud several of her would-be clients.

The artiste, who also doubles as the CEO of Scrumptious Diet Club, which offers meal plans and personal training for a healthy lifestyle says at least one woman was contacted by the fraudster via Whatsapp to join the club.

"I've been overseas for a couple of weeks and I got a phone call from my colleagues at Gym Plus who stated that a woman was at the gym saying that I told her to meet me there. When they put her on the phone, she told me that she had been speaking to someone who she assumed was me via Whatsapp about becoming a member of the club," Stacious said.

She added that the fraudster had been checking up on the woman regarding meal plans and payment. The woman however, insisted on paying in person.

"I just want everyone to know that I don't conduct business via whatsapp. I don't even use Whatsapp. Persons who want to be a part of the Scrumptious Diet Club can contact me via email at scrumptiousdietclub@yahoo.com or they can come in for a consultation. If persons are contacting you about my diet club, it is not me, I prefer consultations," The matter has since been reported to the Constant Spring police who are investigating.

As it relates to her music career, the artiste will be releasing the video for her latest single, Groovin, in the upcoming weeks.

"I've stopped trying to fit in. I'm doing music my way and I know my real fans will appreciate it," she said.

John Holt Collapses onstage in UK

holt-canada.jpg

Holt left The Paragons in 1970 and concentrated on his solo career, Stick By Me coming in 1972.

bobby-shmurda.jpg

The artiste is currently promoting the music video for Stress see below

Come September 5, motorists will be required to adhere to the toll rates that were announced for the Linstead to Moneague leg of the north-south link of Highway 2000.

Stacious a victim of fraud
