Vybz Kartel Sentencing Put Off To April 3

Justice Lennox Campbell, the judge who presided at the Vybz Kartel murder trial has put off sentencing until April 3.

Campbell made the pronouncement in the Home Circuit Court a short while ago.

Campbell said that he had sent a letter to the defence lawyers requesting certain information regarding the convicts, however he is yet to get the information.

The judge said he wanted to find out if someone with artistic talent like Kartel is allowed to continue producing music while in prison.

He wanted to know if there was such allowances if he could make an order for the proceeds of the recordings to go towards the estate of the deceased.

And this morning when Tavares-Finson was making his submission in relation to Kartel, he mentioned that the Director of Public Prosecutions is now trying to change the protocol in relation to the handling of evidence in her office.

However, Llewellyn told the court that she said no such thing.

She also denied claims by Tavares-Finson that she would be launching an investigation into the conduct of the investigators in the Kartel case.

Both Vybz kartel and Kern Spencer's attorneys had the same issues of poor evidence. However the youth from the ghetto (Vybz Kartel) was found guilty and Politician Kern Spencer set free, Defence attorneys says EVIDENCE did not support the charges!

vybz-kartel-photo-18.jpg

Kern Omar Spencer, the former legislator who for more than five years has fought corruption charges related to the Cuban light bulb programme, was released from court this morning a free man.

Spencer, the former junior energy minister who had responsibility for the implementation of the programme, and his former personal assistant Colleen Wright, were freed after Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey upheld a no-case submission made by their attorneys.

Spencer, the former north east St Elizabeth Member of Parliament who cried in Parliament when the allegations were first made public, was a picture of relief after the ruling.

Defence attorneys K.D. Knight and Deborah Martin argued, in their submissions, that Spencer and Wright were denied a fair trial because of prosecutorial misconduct and the lengthy delays in the case and that the evidence did not support the charges.Same situation with Kartel. Why was he found guilty?

Dancehall artiste Alkaline has continuously received backlash online since releasing the single Fuck You, in which he stated that he wanted a batty wash as a brawta during sex.

Several irate social net workers have voiced their concerns in writing, or by creating images mocking the artiste. Here are some of the stunts pulled by social networks to send the controversial deejay a message.

To make matters worse, the deejay recently released a picture in which he sports processed hair.

I am writing to you in regards to the Vybz Kartel murder trial. Not being in attendance at the trial (supposedly the longest murder trial in Jamaica's history), I had to rely on media reports and unless much has been "lost in translation", I do not think that based on the evidence presented a jury could have met for approximately 2 hours to examine the offerings presented in a 65 day trial (judge Lennox Campbell spent all of 6 days to do his summary).

Clearly jurors had long decided that the "WORLD BOSS" and his co-accused had to be sent away and they were not going to objectively examine the evidence presented. I guess they were exercising their "common sense" as urged by judge Campbell - Jurors are not members of the court, or public opinion they are sitting in the court of law, the Supreme Court to be exact and the evidence presented must be beyond reasonable doubt to result in a conviction.

The police had also used Mr. Palmer's phone while it was in their possession, an action which I suspect would have resulted in the collapse of the crown's case in other jurisdictions.

A particular concern must also be the conduct of the presiding judge. He did not come across as an impartial arbitrator but probably demonstrated bias towards the prosecution. he for example repeatedly refused to include timestamps of audio and video evidence during his summary. I am not a fan of dancehall or a lawyer and i do believe that if you do the crime you should pay the penalty, that's just it. I will say this though, the Jamaican system is known for its lackadaisical traits and cover up.

vybz-kartel-photo-20.jpg

They see Mr. Palmer as a young black. Yes, a black ghetto youth with power. But think about it; open up your minds for one moment and let us think as educated people. If you were a business man selling bags, what would you do? Make the bags appealing to what the public is gravitating towards right?  It's the same with musicians, rappers, djs,r&b singers, pop stars you name it. Don't blame Mr. Palmer for violence in Jamaica because killing and robberies have been happening long before you and I were born. Mr. Bunting went on national TV and stated that Mr. Palmer is one of Jamaica's four problems..Question to you Mr. Bunting - has crime decreased for the last two years these men have been behind bars, and do you strongly believe that with Mr. Palmer and his co-accussed in prison that the crime rate will go down?  Because so far it has not. As the minister of national security you are doing a very poor job and instead of blaming Mr. palmer, maybe Mr. bunting you should consider retiring.

Now let's take a look at the case in a nutshell. The Deputy Commissioner of police stated that he is concerned that the cell phones were being used but not surprised because he is very much aware of the level of corruption in the police force. Now, how can a police officer collect a cell phone as evidence and allow other police officers to use the same cell phone and then after tendered it into evidence and the judge accepted it into evidence? The blood found on the premises where it was said that the alleged murder took place was collected as evidence and matched against Clive William's uncle. It came back negative and the prosecution's reply was the reason the blood wasn't a match was because Mr. Williams was a "jacket".

A cell site expert from the police force was called upon and he testified that no one cell phone can make a call one second after being registered at the Norman Manley airport and at the Acadia cell sites.

When the question was put to him by the defense as to how that is possible, his reply was he could not answer to that.

He was asked if it's possible that the chip was cloned and he replied saying it's a possibility.

Another police expert was called upon by the prosecutor. He testified that metadata is a data about data and the main witness had testified before that he arrived at Havendale 5 or 5:30 but call data record showed his phone making calls in Portmore at that particular time. The police expert was asked by the defense how this is possible. His reply was I don't know. He also testified that a photograph was taken from a phone allegedly belonging to the accused Mr. Palmer of a dog bite on his foot. Metadata time of the photo was 7:09 pm at that time call data was shown that the main witness

was in route on Red Hills road heading to Havendale, and the main witness had testified that Mr. palmer got bitten while he was running after him. Now could it be that the main witness was there before he was actually there? How is it possible that the main witness was in both places at the same time? When asked upon by the defense how is it possible, his reply was he does not know. Now this said police expert gave evidence that he created a call data report on the 22nd of October 2011, and at that time was the first he was using the phone while he was examining them, but his report showed that he was being accessed on the 3,4,10,11,12,13,14 of October 2011. When asked by the defense who had access to the cell phone during this time since October 22nd 2011 was the first time it was being used by him, he replied saying he could not speak on that.

The inconsistencies of this witness go further but I choose to end it here. Another witness was called by the prosecution. This time it was the head of the Digicel group who was in charge of preparing the call data record that was given to the police to give to the court. He testified that he prepared two (2) cds: js1 and js2. Now the js1 was a copy of the evidence collected and only to be opened in court for court use only. Js2 was the working copy which the police used to create evidence, however when the evidence was presented by the police expert, it was shown from js2 and that CD the head of the Digicel group said he gave it to the police for only working use was not for court presentation.

When asked by the defense how can the court verify that the information on js2 was authentic he replied  saying it could only be proven with the original js1. He also testified that the information on js2 could be copied and modified. The defense then asked the court to present the original js1 CD at which the prosecutor told the defense and the court that the original js1 cd could not be found because it was lost. Seems to me like all the evidence just got up and walked. The handwriting expert was called to testify by the defense team. This expert also works for the prosecution. Now a letter was written by the main witness to the public defender stating that he was being forced by the police to give a statement against the accused men in Mr. Palmer's trial. He also included in his letter that he had indeed seen Clive Williams alive after august 16.2011. The handwriting expert analyzed the letter by comparing the signature on the letter to over 39 signatures on the main witness statement produced by the prosecution.

The expert indeed said that the letter was signed by the same person. When the prosecution began to cross examine the witness, he told by expert that his examination was incomplete because he didn't have the original statement of the witness' handwriting, in which the expert replied he wasn't given the original statement but instead given photo copies, the defense objected and ask the prosecution for the original. The prosecutor told the court the original was missing.

The prosecution called  a police cell site expert. During his evidence he testified saying he has a photo of the house navigated by Google Earth. When questioned by the defense how he came up with the location he told the court he got coordinates from a photograph from a phone that allegedly to belonged to Mr. palmer. In presenting his findings to the court, the house that Google pointed to was not the same house the alleged murder was said to have taken place but a house that was actually across from it. When asked by the defense how that house came up he replied that he could not  speak to that matter or maybe Google Earth was at fault.

On a next matter, how did the main witness happen to make out that Mr. Williams was lying motionless on the floor with Mr. St John standing over him with a block while he was running for his life all from a cell phone light? Bearing in mind, the house was in complete darkness, how did the main witness run from such a short distance from the house to jump over a 8 foot gate and not sustain any injuries at all? (atalented young man).

A note book containing crucial information to the case just vanished. A video was shown in court, a video showing no faces, just clothes and tattoos. No murder was seen taking place on the video. After it was put out by the media long before the trial started that the police have video evidence of the accused men committing murder.

I have come to realize that people can sound alike..and people sound different over the phone even on a voice note..Take for example the dancehall duo twins of twins when they are in character 90% of the time they do sound like the person they are mimicking. With today's technology, anything is possible including creating a fake text message or even making a fake phone call. There is an application for that and it works, trust me it does because I have tried it and you cannot tell if it's real or fake.

The prosecutor called another police expert that stated he was in charge of dealing with the text messages. He presented a colored chart to the court that was created by him showing text messages taken from a cell phone allegedly belonging to Mr. Palmer in a readable form but right before the court he changed the color and format in which  the messages were sent. Please note that he had earlier informed the court that the js2 cd was read only and that nothing could be changed. That same police took the text "program them things for lizzy" and placed it somewhere else and later admitted he doesn't know how that happened.

It's no doubt the police force is corrupted. Police even kill their own and say they died in a shoot out. Mr. Palmer is paying the price for voicing his opinion against the corrupted government; he was brave enough to talk and to even write a book about the ills of society. You cannot find a person guilty because you dislike them, or for how they look. His tattoos and bleaching is just an artistic impression and after all it's his skin.

For anyone to sell anything at all you have to be creative, especially in the entertainment industry where the competition is so fierce. Vybz Kartel and Adidja Palmer are two different individuals .Shawn Storm and Shawn Campbell are two different individuals. Call it spilt personalities if you may. For them it works. Tapping into character to put food on the table.

Do you think corruption is going to stop if someone doesn't talk about it? Do you think potholes are gonna fill up on their own if someone doesn't challenge the government? Wake up people. I wish the system would have tried these men for who they are and not from the community in which they are from.

A man must be judged according to the evidence against him and not what was made up for him. This case surely and purely is made up of unfair circumstantial evidence.

In order for there to be a better justice system, the corruption has to be removed. These men deserve a fair trial.

LA Lewis has done it again. This time, he is offering a 1.6 million reward for any evidence that shows the location of Lizard. He said his "intelligence" has pointed in the direction of Ocho Rios where the former dancer was allegedly spotted more than once.

"We have the warrant out because people have been approaching us saying they saw Lizard in Ocho Rios. We have been working behind the scene with Gaza Federation and we feel like the evidence used to convict Vybz Kartel was tampered with. They have no blood stain, nor forensic evidence, so we thought this would have been a pushover case, but the results were shocking to the world," L.A Lewis told The Star.

Social media has been flooded with funny memes of Tiana who has been labeled by the up and coming dancehall artiste, Lala Pinkdoll as "Mrs.Fagotty", which she says seeks to attest to the female version of  the ever controversial dancehall artist Alkaline.

Although the artist Lala was tight lipped on the details of what ignited the feud between the two, she however suggested that she and Tiana were fucking each other.

The dancehall community has been no stranger to an increase in the public endorsement of taboo dancehall activities in the past weeks, with artists such as Alkaline blatantly endorsing the pleasures of anal stimulation and J Amsterdam publicly endorsing the pleasures of treating women with oral sex.

Former glamour cop Reneto Adams is advocating that convicted entertainer Vybz Kartel be locked up for no fewer than 50 years.

Adams, who expressed delight at the guilty verdict against Vybz Kartel for murder last week, said he bore no grudge against the artiste in particular, but said the country had been done a favour by the panel of jurors.

"I have been one of the voices crying out in the wilderness for criminals to be found guilty and locked up for no less than 50 years for heinous crimes.

The Jamaican people have suffered for far too long," Adams said. Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, along with Shawn 'Storm' Campbell, Kahira Jones, and André St John were all found guilty by an 11-member jury that voted 10:1 for the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams, who police say was killed at a house owned by Vybz Kartel on Swallowfield Avenue in Havendale, St Andrew, in August 2011.

Shane Williams was acquitted by the jury, but was subsequently slapped with another murder charge by police. "It is not just Kartel, but all criminal elements.

There have been certain judgements in recent times that give us hope. 'Zeeks', 'Dudus', 'Dog Paw', 'Andem' are all in prison," he said in reference to former gang leaders Donald Phipps, Christopher Coke, Christopher Linton, and Joel Andem.

"I am very elated," Adams remarked. During the trial of Vybz Kartel, defence lawyers pointed to evidence tampering and sloppy investigative work by some police officers and labelled the police force as corrupt.

Yesterday, Adams said that he was not pleased with some aspects of the claims, which he argued painted the police in a bad light. "I would describe it as horrendous the way certain exhibits and evidence were handled.

There can be no excuse for that type of thing when there are certain guidelines and rules relating to handling evidence and exhibits; some of which I helped to formulate. It is not pleasing at all," he said. Vybz Kartel and his three co-accused be sentenced by Justice Lennox Campbell next Thursday.

Under Jamaican law they will have to serve at least 15 years before being eligible for parole, but will have to await Justice Campbell's sentence to know how many years they will be locked up in a maximum security penal facility before a parole board decides that they are no longer a menace to society.

Accused juror in the Kartel murder trial, Livingston Cain, had approached other jurors telling them to return a verdict of not guilty in relation to all the accused men.

This was revealed when Cain appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Tuesday morning.

Cain told a particular juror: "I will take care of you as long as you say weh me a say. These men are promising entertainers and uno must let them go."

The court was told that the jurors in the matter had reported the issue to the foreman before the accused man approached her with an offer of $500,000 for the release of all the men accused of the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

He has been offered $750,000 bail with daily reporting conditions and is to return to court next week Friday.

Bodyguard Beef-Up For DPP, Kartel Prosecutors

Jamaica's top prosecutor yesterday revealed that the police have increased security around her office and the two prosecutors in the Vybz Kartel murder trial because of "specific and general security concerns".

As part of the increased safety measures, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn disclosed that close protection security has been provided for Jeremy Taylor, the lead prosecutor in the Kartel case, and his junior, Crown counsel Leighton Morris.

Llewellyn, however, declined to discuss the security concerns or the measures that have been put in place by the police, saying that would be inappropriate.

"But they are still in place and will remain in place until I am advised by the police authorities that they are no longer required," she insisted.

"The welfare of my staff is paramount," Llewellyn added, while indicating that she was not aware of any death threats against Taylor.

The concerns about the safety of the two prosecutors could mean additional challenges for the police who have already placed in protective custody, the main prosecution witness and Stephanie Breakenridge, the sister of Clive 'Lizard' Williams, who Kartel and his co-accused were convicted for killing.

Without mentioning the Kartel case, Llewellyn explained that she is required to carry out regular reviews of the "welfare needs" of her staff, adding that once it is deemed appropriate, the police would be asked to put measures in place.

Kartel fans look to Obama for support

Despite Vybz Kartel's conviction on a murder charge on Thursday, his family and fans are clinging on the smallest bit of hope the deejay can beat his current predicament, as dire as it may be.

His fans in particular are going to the extremes to try and secure and out for the self-professed 'Worl' Boss' as they have petitioned the United States government to help free him. The petitions, started this weekend, claim that Vybz Kartel did not receive a fair trial in the Clive 'Lizard' Williams case, which he and three co-accused were convicted of his August 2011 murder.

One of the petitions claimed evidence tampering by police during their investigation, citing alleged corruption and bias against him throughout, though that petition has seen been stopped. A second petition, started on Sunday, is hoping to secure 100,000 signatures by April 15 so it can be formally presented to U.S. President Barack Obama's administration.

Meanwhile Kartel's mother and sister have spoken out for the first time since the Mar. 13 verdict. His mother, Teresa Palmer gave an exclusive interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday in which she expressed anger and sadness at the situation, suggesting many 'lies' have been told on her son.

"I don't like that. A lot of lies were told. They tampered with the phones," she said. "Dem man yah no need no sentence. Dem must go a road. Dem haffi let go mi pickney."

Palmer said she has not eaten since the verdict and is trying to cope with the news. She believes, however, that several people have unfairly judged her son because of his hardcore lyrics and persona he presents.

"They say who God bless, no man curse," she said. "You can fight against a man like this? You [should] fight against people who come into your community and rob, rape and kill. I don't know why society is fighting the man and he never took anything from them."

Kartel's sister, Morine Nelson even chimed in, challenging an assertion by Jamaica's security minister, Peter Bunting that her brother's music has promoted crime over the years, while insisting people should stop hating the deejay without knowing his background.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused will be sentenced on March 27. However, his legal team has indicated they will file an appeal to overturn the conviction.

vybz-kartel-photo-11-full.jpg

Meanwhile a juror in the Clive 'Lizard' Williams case, Livingston Cain has been charged with five counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after allegedly offering millions of dollars to sway other jurors in the case to render a not guilty verdict for Kartel and company. He will appear in the Half Way Tree Magistrates Court on March 18.

Several customers of telecommunications company, LIME, in sections of Portmore and Spanish Town in St Catherine, remain without service after vandals burnt cables serving mobile sites in the parish.

LIME's corporate communications manager, Elon Parkinson, says minutes after four this morning, the company's surveillance teams observed that several of the sites were not active.

It was later discovered that vandals used a tire and other debris to set fire to a manhole housing fibre optic cables in the vicinity of the Ferry Police station.

Parkinson says some of the company's major customers, National Commercial Bank and the Inland Revenue Department are without service.

He says it was too early to determine the cost to effect the repairs but notes that fibre optic cables are generally very expensive.

A juror at the Vybz Katel murder trial has been taken into custody on allegations of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

It is understood that the juror approached another juror and offered a bribe in exchange for a not guilty verdict.

The juror is likely to appear before court tomorrow.

The eleven-member jury began deliberating at 3:45 p.m.

Initially, the eleven-member jury deliberated for 1 hour and 53 minutes before returning a 10-1 verdict.

They were sent back to reconsider because the verdict was not unanimous and was reached under two hours.

The jurors then went back to consider the matter before again returning to the courtroom.

Kartel, 38, whose real name is Adidja Palmer and his co-accused went on trial on November 20 in the Home Circuit Court.

They had been in custody since September 2011.

They were charged with the murder of 27-year-old Clive 'Lizard' Williams, of Waterford, St Catherine.

The Crown represented by senior deputy director of public prosecutions, Jeremy Taylor, and Crown Counsel Leighton Morris alleged that on August 16, 2011 'Lizard' was beaten to death at Kartel's house at 7 Swallowfield Avenue, Havendale, St Andrew over two missing guns.

The prosecution relied on circumstantial evidence and common design to prove its case against the men.

Those found guilty are to return to court for sentencing on March 27.

The defence attorneys have indicated their intention to appeal.

Kartel and five other men had been charged with William's murder, but at the start of the trial in November last year, the fifth co-accused, fashion designer, Calvin Haye, was freed after the Crown offered no evidence against him.

Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan has had her share of relationships and hookups -- and those hookups I'm sure she's kept secret...until now.

In Touch Weekly's reporting that they have a list written by Lilo herself of the names of all the men she's slept with! some men you may recognize and some of those men were in relationships at the time!

How did they find it? Apparently, Lindsay left the list behind at a hotel after playing what appears to be a game of Scattergories by the photo of the list.

intouch.jpg

Via In Touch Weekly:

In Touch has exclusively obtained a shocking list, penned in Lindsay Lohan's handwriting, exposing 36 of her famous lovers.

Among the dozens of superstars named are Adam Levine, Zac Efron, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. "They were giggling and talking s--- about people in the industry," a source, who watched as Lindsay jotted down name after name at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Jan. 30, 2013, tells In Touch.

"It was her personal conquest list," the source says. "She was trying to impress her friends with the list and then tossed it aside."

The source also shares with In Touch that Lindsay would pause to think at times "as if she had to remind herself of who they were."

Also named on the list are Colin Farrell, Evan Peters and Wilmer Valderrama. Many of them never imagined Lindsay would kiss and tell, but she apparently did! "The list has some pretty big names on it, and they're not all single guys," an industry insider tells In Touch. "This getting out now could rock several Hollywood relationships to the core."

Its a surprise L.A Lews didnt make the list.

Kanye West has asked best pal Jay Z to accept the honour of best man, but the 44-year-old artist has turned down the offer according to reports.

Jay Z initially agreed to be best man but changed his mind when word got out the whole spectacle could be sold to E! for a special episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

A source apparently close to Beyonce and Jay Z told Perez Hilton that Jay Z agreed on the understanding that there would be no reality TV cameras there to film him, his wife Beyonce and their two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

"The thought of popping up in KUWTK [Keeping Up With the Kardashians] mortifies Beyonce," says the source.

"She purposefully keeps herself away from trashy TV and isn't prepared to lower her standards for anyone, or any occasion."

It's been reported that a television deal is already in the works, with E! desperate to gain exclusive rights to the wedding.

E! are so anxious to seal the deal, according to more close "sources", that they are willing to pay millions for it which could include paying for the wedding itself.

Although the 33-year-old reality television star told Ryan Seacrest in an interview in February she would like a smaller, more intimate wedding it would be out of character for the wedding to be kept private.

It will be Kim Kardashian's third marriage, and her second wedding to be broadcast by E!.

The reality star's marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011 was broadcast as a two-part special, involving the preparations for the big day and the ceremony itself.

The marriage, widely regarded as a publicity stunt, was short lived: Kardashian called it off after just 72 days due to "irreconcilable differences".

If Jay Z won't be best man because of television cameras, does that mean his family won't make an appearance at the wedding at all? It doesn't seem like a huge leap, but we won't know until the next source close to the couple leaks more juicy details.

Mr Peppa and Alley Cat start feud over song

There seems to be a squabble brewing between dancehall artistes Alley Cat, now called Imperial, and Mr Peppa.

The issue has apparently started recently after the release of a song, Have It Lock, featuring Mr Peppa and Bounty Killer, that has been receiving steady rotation on radio stations.

Alley Cat aYA he released a rhythm compilation called Motion Picture 2010 which featured the song by Mr Peppa, however, DJs refused to play it which pushed the artiste to re-record the song with established producers Pay Day Music and add Bounty Killer to the effort.

alley-cat.jpg

Alley Cat said Peppa has been getting strong airplay for the new version of the song in 2014. However, all the credit is going to Pay Day Music instead of his (Alley Cat's) label Imperial productions, who first produced the song.

"I want the people to know that I was the first major producer behind it, and I want to ask the DJs to give young producers a chance. If its even to create a 'pump it or dump it' segment where fans can vote on projects. But radio DJs should not have the power to decide what happens to your productions, because dem overlook the thing because of double standards. Is me and Mr Peppa sit dung and write the song initially," he said.

The deejay insisted that he has no serious grouse with Pay Day Music, Bounty Killer or Mr Peppa. He believes the actions of radio DJs pushed Mr Peppa to seek stronger affiliation in order to get the song its deserving highlight.

When contacted, Mr Peppa said Alley Cat should not have released the song because he recorded it as a demo for Bounty Killer and did not intend to promote it as a solo for himself.

He also said Alley Cat was out of line and was not concerned about the project until it started getting popularity.

A seemingly upset Mr Peppa further stated; "If is a newspaper hype yu a look mi wi tek it to lyrical war because mi tek it as a disrespect. Mi nuh want nuh side distraction and mi nah mek no man box mi food outa mi mouth."

Apart from Have It Lock Mr Peppa is also now promoting a collaboration with ANG artiste Prince Pin called Nuh New Friend. Alley Cat has a new album called Dancehall Knowledge vol 3.

The high court judge presiding at Vybz Kartel's murder trial has instructed jurors to examine whether the conduct of police support allegations by defence lawyers of fraud and corruption to seek convictions.

Justice Lennox Campbell issued the charge to jurors as he reviewed the evidence from Digicel executive, Joseph Simmonds.

Simmonds has testified in the trial that he had prepared a statement and two Compact Discs (CDs) containing call and text message records from 40 phone numbers.

He said he had given the discs to the police, who made the request.

It was also revealed that one of the discs that contained the original data extracted from the cell phones had gone missing.

The judge told the jurors that they have to determine if the missing disc is a part of the conspiracy argued by defence lawyers.

He also told the jurors to examine whether the conduct of the police in handling the case supports the allegations by defence lawyers that there was corruption and fraud to secure the men's conviction.

Justice Campbell referred to the phone that was in the custody of the police and used.

He reminded that the defense is arguing that the phone was compromised at different stages while in police custody.

He told the jurors that they have to consider and examine carefully the complaints of the defence.

The judge is on his fourth day of summation.

Kartel and his co-accused are on trial for the August 2011 murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams who was allegedly killed over two missing guns.

The other men on trial are Kahira Jones, Shane Williams, André St John, and entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called Shawn Storm.

"Vybz Kartel is a very intriguing artiste to work with... I don't really have nothing to think about his situation because I don't know all of the truth about it and it is none of my business. At the end of the day I just know about my experiences with him and I know what he does for me and music. He is an inspiring mother fucker and he work hard too.

vybz-kartel-photo-17.jpg

The thing I found more intriguing is how he was able to evolve what the now reggae artiste should be like, whether you agree with it or you don't, his perspective of what the now reggae artiste should be is what differentiates him from everything that I have seen a long time in reggae artistes...He understands how to incorporate shock value with incredible music...He does things on the shock value level that we might look at as very crazy. I wouldn't say he say he was the Rick James of reggae because he is not a clown, that ain't Kartel.

rick-james.jpg

He is still looked at as being very serious even though he is very entertaining. I just respect what he does with his music and I hope that his situation works out for him because he has a lot more to contribute".

Beenie Man Weighs In On Vybz Kartel's Murder Case

The judge in the Vybz Kartel murder trial has told jurors that they should not find the entertainer guilty because of the contents of his lyrics.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is charged jointly with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones; Shane Williams and André St John.

High Court judge Justice Lennox Campbell gave the instruction to the 11-member panel of jurors as he started his summation of the case in the Home Circuit Court this morning.

As he opened his address, the judge told the jurors that they first have to determine whether Clive 'Lizard' Williams is dead.

He said if they find that he is not dead, that's the end of the matter.

However, he said death can be proven by other facts including circumstantial evidence.

The Crown had said it is relying on circumstantial evidence to argue that Kartel and his four co-accused plotted and murdered Williams at the artiste's Havendale, St Andrew house on August 16, 2011.

The judge outlined to the jurors what is common design, the argument used by the prosecution to implicate the accused men.

The judge told the jurors that they must be satisfied and feel sure that Williams is dead.

Justice Campbell instructed the jurors to decide if the five accused men killed Williams.

Justice Campbell noted that the evidence must point in the direction and one direction only, that the men killed Lizard.

It is alleged that 'Lizard' was beaten to death over two missing guns.

Justice Campbell also asked the jurors not to speculate or have any sympathy for anyone in the case.

He said the evidence must be the yardstick by which they judge the case.

Justice Campbell told the jurors that they should not be prejudiced by the 'locking' of guns in the case.

He said the accused men's morals are not on trial.

The High Court judge is continuing is summation.

A multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against reggae artiste Tony Rebel and his company is now being heard in the Supreme Court.

Musician and composer Wayne Lattibeaudiere, popularly known as Jah Wayne, has sued Tony Rebel for using his music without crediting him.

Jah Wayne claims that Rebel breached his copyright in relation to the composition 'Going Home' that was released by Rebel under the title 'La La Bella'. Jah Wayne is contending that he wrote the composition for the song in 1996.

He is also suing Rebel's record label Flame Production Incorporation Limited.

The suit was filed in 1999 but is just being heard in the Home Circuit Court by Justice Kirk Anderson.

He is asking the Court to rule that he is the composer and owner of the copyright of the musical composition, Going Home, otherwise known as La La Bella. He is asking the Court to make an order for the registrar of the Supreme Court to take an account to determine the amount of profit made by the defendant.

He is also asking for an order that the defendant publish in newspaper locally and overseas that he is the composer.

Rebel has denied the claim and is saying he created it on his own and it is his composition.

Justice Kirk Anderson has turned down an application by reggae artiste Tony Rebel and his company to strike out the multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against them by musician Wayne Lattibeaudiere, popularly known as Jah Wayne.

Jah Wayne had said he did not read his statement before he certified it to be true.

The judge allowed the clerk to read sections of the statement to Jah Wayne for him to make the relevant corrections and certify it as true.

However, the judge awarded costs in favour of the defendants for the three hours it took to correct the statement and additional costs for McBean to review the revised statement.

The judge said the corrected statement must be filed and served on the defence by Thursday.

TMZ reportedly obtained the tax lien which states that Lil Wayne failed to pay taxes for the years of 2011 and 2012. Lil Wayne reportedly owes $5,843,952 in unpaid taxes for 2011 and $6,311,132 for 2012. Lil Wayne made the Top 5 of Forbes' Hip Hop Cash King list in both of those years with earnings of $15 million in 2011 and $27 million in 2012.

Freaky dancehall singjay J Amsterdam says Alkaline's 'Batty Wash' line in his controversial song is worse than his (J Amsterdam's) entire Wine Inna Face single.

"Alkaline is making it bad for me right now because people feel that he did the anal licking line because of me, Demarco and Ricky Carty. But what he did in his song with one line is worse than my entire song. This did me more harm than good because I have received no bookings, not even Tiana or D'Angel want to be associated with me. Persons have to be hypocrites to survive in this industry ... Jamaica is not ready for it, and even though I said oral sex in the song, I have never performed it," J Amsterdam added.

Why was he found guilty?

vybz-kartel-photo-19.jpg

Knight and Deborah Martin argued, in their submissions, that Spencer and Wright were denied a fair trial because of prosecutorial misconduct and the lengthy delays in the case and that the evidence did not support the charges.Same situation with Kartel. vybz-kartel-photo-19.jpg

Tiana and Female deejay Lala Pink Doll had sex?

Sometimes the richest people seem the poorest. Today (March 3rd), a tax lien has been imposed on Lil Wayne to the tune of over $12 million in unpaid taxes.

Lil Wayne recently owed $7 million in back taxes for 2008-2009 and paid that amount in 2012.

Lil Wayne has a history of delayed payments as he and his record label Young Money has been sued by producers over unpaid royalties. In 2012 alone, Wayne paid settlements to "Lollipop" producer Deezle and "Love Me or Hate Me" producer David Kirkwood.
