Local promoters are plotting to formulate contracts for local artistes, to inform them to desist from singing hate songs on local stage shows.

According to the promoters, they will not tolerate hate music due to the fact that it hampers the development of local music.

The move by the promoters might be new to the local music industry. However its largely protocol on the international scene.

Several local dancehall artistes including Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks among others, have encountered problems on the international scene from the gay community because of music which they define as hate music.

The Jamaica police force is mourning the death of a trainee who reportedly died during a practical combat session recently.

According to reports, several 'police officers in training' were executing a routine training exercise using gun tactics and combat style. However the guns issued to the young trainees were not loaded with blank shots this time around, they had live rounds.

It was only after an officer received a fatal gunshot wound did others realize that the guns were loaded. At least four other officers in training ended up at the Spanish Town hospital nursing gunshot wounds.

Family members are now left wondering who had issued live rounds to the trainees? Or was foul play involved?

"I am not who Babylon says I am" Adidja Palmer has decided to give the green light to his co-author and business partner, Michael Dawson, to reveal to the public things about himself that he had previously chosen to keep private as he has always wanted to keep his personal and family life away from the intense public scrutiny that he has endured.

However, after being locked up without bail for nearly a year and a half, politicians still blame him for everything from scamming to teenage truancy to the increase in crime as he is constantly being portrayed as the root of all evil in Jamaica - this is a man who has never been convicted of a crime for his 37 years on earth. He believes he owes it to his children and mother to not sit like a lame duck and let Babylon demonize their father and son. Furthermore he hears crazy stories about him attempting to escape and once even shooting a guard in the process. Without an opportunity to defend himself, he has asked Dawson during their last visit to manage his Public Relations giving him the go-ahead to reveal lengthy discussions about the real Adidja Palmer that they had for months whilst writing their book, his reflections on life during their visits and to market the catalogue of positive music that he had made years ago but has been shunned by Disc Jockeys, sound systems and record companies doing compilations.

He told Dawson during our last visit, "I am not worried about the case right now as Haile Selassie said justice will prevail, regardless of how long it takes - if a so Jah say, a so it go so I am at peace that the matter will be dealt with. I just don't want my children and the youths of Jamaica to get the wrong impression of me. I am in no way perfect but I am not who Babylon says I am. I love Jamaica, I love the youths and when I am out I will 100% guarantee that I will be the man that will have the biggest positive effect on Jamaica."

Local festivals beg for corporate Sponsorship

Local promoters are begging for more support from corporate sponsors. According to the promoters, they are facing major difficulty to produce world class shows out of their pockets.

They also argue that the stage shows have decreased in Jamaica due to the fact that sponsors have boycotted the major festivals which now include Sting, Rebel Salute, GT Taylor's Extravaganza and Follow the Arrow.

gt-taylor.jpg

Promoter GT Taylor believes some sponsors are not aware what is going on in the entertainment industry. He says some brand managers are ignorant to the credibility of some events and as a result they will not give sponsorship.

isaiah-laing.jpg

Isaiah Laing believes sponsors are valuable to the development and survival of any show, however he believes many sponsors are faced with challenging economic times and cannot find funds to support a stage show. The promoter is hopeful that 2013 will bring improvements.

Carla Hollingsworth, brand manager of Pepsi, believes some events are not beneficial to certain brands. She says Pepsi would have liked to sponsor as much events as possible however, they must choose wisely because events are unpredictable.

Promoter and Entertainment Chair person at UWI Miguel Gramma Zone Reid believes promoters should make sure that their products are clean and positive and sponsors will want to be affiliated. According to Reid sponsors flock University Events because they are known to pull huge crowds and the product is normally clean and violence free.

However what remains ironic in this saga, is that events like Jazz and Blues which celebrates foreign culture, has many sponsors. Is this double standard? Lets see how this develops.

Recording artiste Omi, managed Clifton 'Specialist' Dillon has blown life into the Ska genre by striking number one on at least three international charts.

The Ska record called Cheer Leader, produced by Oufah Records has hit the number one spot in places like Dubai, New Caledonia and Honolulu. The local popularity of the song has also marked the first time that a Ska record has hit local charts in many years.

According to Specialist, he has wanted to bring back Ska for years.

The manager who has worked with two time Grammy Award winner Shabba Ranks, also aims to preserve the authentic elements of the art form.

He also believes he Omi will be the Rihanna of Jamaica and reap the success of Shabba Ranks internationally.

Cheer Leader developed a following overseas before charting in Jamaica and the musical specialist believes this is due to the fact that the international audience has a deeper appreciation for diversity.

Specialist says artistes like Burning Spear have developed a strong following in the international market singing traditional music. A standard he (Specialist) wants to emulate.

The man aiming to modernise and bring back traditional genres says the follow up single will see Omi dabbling into the genre of Mento. Specialist believes the Jamaican music industry lacks diversity claiming that industry players tend to follow each other.

Specialist also manages reggae artiste Alborosie and hints that another new artiste will be coming from his stable soon.

Cheerleader currently has over one million views on YouTube.com as well as several international parodies.

During the Gaza and Gully feud several young artistes who aligned themselves to either camp received popularity by defending their bosses lyrically. Now that the feud has ended, the bosses have apparently moved on to higher heights, leaving the young artistes behind.

The artistes left starving after the Gully/Gaza feud explain that it was never about developing artistes.

vybz-kartel-and-mavado.jpg
Trippledose who acts as manager to former Gaza artiste Jahvinci, says Mavado and Vybz Kartel were the backbone of the feud which ultimately means they would reap all the benefits.

The producer believes the supporting artistes who took sides for both camps did not get a fair chance after the war subsided to develop successful careers.

Jahvinci is now out of the Gaza camp and is looking to release his debut reggae album.

Former ghost writer and longtime friend of Mavado Flexx, says success in any group depends on the persona of the leader. The artiste revealed that fame can corrupt the mind of some people and if they don't have the interest to assist in the development of young talents, they will have to seek development elsewhere.

savage-and-flexx.jpg
Flexx also gave thumbs up to Konshens and Bounty Killer who he says tries to help artistes to better themselves. While not calling any particular name, Flexx said that some artistes want success for themselves and are not willing to share the profits of success, even though it was achieved through team work.

Another member of the Gullyside Crew Savage disclosed that lack of management hampered the young artistes. Savage highlighted that Mavado was getting all the promotion from the camp, therefore the supporting acts did not get a fair chance to shine.

Calvin 'Moonie' Haye former manager of Vybz Kartel believes all supporting artistes can receive success with hard work. The manager/fashion designer says Mavado and Vybz Kartel took the time to be creative and constantly found hit songs. He believes if young artistes try the same formula they will achieve success.

Chase Cross was a member of the Gullyside crew he was recently awarded 'Iron Balloon of the year' by a popular publication. 'Iron Balloon' is a term used to describe an artiste who fails to rise to stardom.

black-ryno.jpg
3 Star Wildlife also a member of the Gully side crew is largely unseen in the dancehall community. Black Ryno was a member of the Gaza Camp, however since the feud concluded he has fallen from grace along with Jahvinci. Producer Notnice was arguably one of Jamaica's top producers during the feud, however he too has found life very hard in the music industry since the Gaza/Gully feud came to an end.

Spragga Benz gave props to Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg) for his work with Jamaican artistes. However according to the veteran the recent performance delivered by Shabba at Sumfest represents the standard those other local artistes to aim to emulate.

The woman who goes by the name Simone Clarke* alleges that she was conned by the young girl who attends a prominent high school. According to Mullings, she was simply making a generous gesture to protect an apparently homeless child.

The woman explained that the girl spent the night at her house and she decided to take her home the next day, only to realize that she was not homeless. In fact she was from a regular household with persons charged with the responsibility of taking care of her, however this was not mentioned by the alleged con child.

Upon returning to her home Clarke realized that several valuables were missing including a cellphone.  She then returned to house where child lives, but the child insisted she knew nothing about the missing phone.

An upset Clarke pressured the issue until the child reportedly took her to a section of the premises where she had buried the cellphone and some jewellery which were also missing.

RDX responds to accusations that they stole a song!

rdx-photo-2.jpg
In light of recent accusations made by a recording artiste and its label which led to an article being published in the Jamaica Star on Monday, January 15th, 2013.

I Shuzzr, publicist for the duo RDX felt if necessary to comment on the issue formally on behalf of the duo.

Since the release of the single "Kotch' produced by Cashflow Records which has received over 7500 views on Youtube, neither the recording artiste and its label by extension have expressed their concerns through the various formal channels at their disposal.

Whilst the concept may seem to bare some far-fetched similarities, its development and conception had nothing to bare on materials sent or produced by any other artiste or label. RDX versatility speaks volume, as we've seen the constant successes and accomplishment being attained.

The duo is well known for their creativity within the industry, as they have produced successful rhythms (riddims) and written materials (lyrics) for other artiste. With hit singles such as 'JUMP', 'BROAD OUT' BEND OVA' amongst many other, the duo have represented for Jamaica on several fronts, touring Europe and other parts of the world constantly, staying on top of the charts, recording, producing and keeping fans entertained and enemies confused.

RDX and its team have been busy enjoying the benefits of their successes, whilst planning and strategizing as to how we can achieve even more. We've held ourselves to high standards in this music industry and even encouraged our peers, those who aspire to become artiste themselves or otherwise - the single 'Shining Star' speaks volume to that.

We find the accusations baseless and would like to make it clear that we will not fuel these underhanded cheap tactics by an unknown artiste and/or label to gain some form popularity. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device from LIME.

Jamaican music industry players are asking artistes to execute more musical diversity and professionalism in 2013. The reggae music industry growing once again due to the rise of several new talents, however some elements of the music industry still needs attention.

chronixx.jpg

According reggae artiste Chronixx, he wants reggae music to regain its integrity through unification of the artistes. The artiste highlighted that the genre suffers from commercial backing, but laments that professionalism could eliminate some of the difficulties faced by the industry.

richie-spice.jpg

The veteran Richie Spice also commented on the issue stating that he wants reggae to get a wider appeal. The artiste sees reggae music as a family genre and a voice of truth and believes the time has come for reggae to break through fully into the international mainstream media. Only then does Richie Spice believe the music will be able to influence the world positively and accurately.

Former manager of Peter Tosh Herbie Miller, supports Richie Spice's analogy. However he wants to see more musical diversity from the local artistes. Miller believes there are many topics of world concern that are not being mentioned in the music.

Miller also pleaded with the artistes to stay out of trouble for 2013 and beyond.

vybz-kartel-and-gaza-slim.jpg

Members Vybz Kartel's camp has called for the artiste to be crowned the new King of Dancehall, due to his continued presence in the dancehall arena despite incarceration.

Vybz Kartel had relative success in 2012 due to his pool of pre-recorded material. Adding to that, the artiste also received his first nod from the internationally acclaimed Grammy organisation after his album Pon Di Gaza Mi Sey was nominated for the provisional list for this year's Grammy award in the category of Best Reggae Album.

Calvin 'Moonie' Haye, who was Vybz kartel's last Road Manager, says the demand for Kartel's music is testimony that he rules dancehall. He also believes Vybz kartel should be crowned the King of Dancehall because Jamaican parties play more than 70% of kartel's songs during each session.

Female deejay of the year Gaza Slim also shared a similar view.  She believes Vybz kartel is already the King, also alleging that many artistes have lost creativity since Vybz Kartel's incarceration.

Billboard chart topping producer Elvis Redwood claims that Vybz Kartel is scarcely versatile, and covers a huge fanbase because of his wide appeal. The producer also wants a speedy trial and positive results for the incarcerated self proclaimed World Boss.

International recording artiste Beenie Man has apologized to his legion of Caribbean fans who are disappointed that he will not be making an appearance at the Power Soca and Groovy Soca Monarch competitions this year.

He had planned to enter this contest for the first time this year, but has performed at the actual event several times as a guest act during his storied career.

"The problem is that we have been touring hard overseas and I tried to get both songs done in time for the Power Soca and Groovy Soca contests but I just couldn't make it in time. I sincerely apologise to all the Beenie Man fans in the Caribbean who expected me to enter the contests...I was just unable to get it done, the circumstances were beyond my control, but definitely next year, I will be there because ah my show that," he said.

Beenie Man has been experimenting with different genres of music, and this year, he recorded two songs in an attempt to enter this year's Power Soca and Groovy Soca Monarch competitions in Trinidad, one of the biggest shows in the calendar of the TT Carnival, but his submissions were late.

The announcement was made this week by the Caribbean Prestige Foundation officials on Tuesday of this week that Beenie Man's recordings for preliminary judging which took place last Sunday were received late, so the Doctor missed out on his chance to win the first prize award of 2 million TT dollars.

Beenie Man showed that he still has major box office pull when he performed in front of a crowd of 27,000 screaming fans during the entertainment segment of the GFA Banks Beer KO Cup on January 1, 2013.  The event took place at the GCC Ground Bourda.

Beenie Man thrilled the audience with a steady stream of his  songs including Let's Go, Street Life, Who Am I, King of the Dancehall, along with recent hits like 'Dweet Again'.

"This year, mi ah go do the same things mi do inna 2010, 2011, 2012...mi just ah go hard, and dweet again," Beenie Man said.

He is presently promoting a new single called 'Clean Heart', and the video is now in rotation on CVM, RE, HYPE and MD TV.

International artist Mr Vegas announces a new charity concept auction, "Turning Dust Into Bricks".

After experiencing a very public break-up and turmoil in his personal life during the later part of 2012, Mr Vegas aims to make 2013 a year of turning negatives into positives.

Like the phoenix that rises from the ashes, Vegas hopes to set an example and be a voice for many broken people who have given up on healing both mentally and physically from emotional stress.

Mr Vegas hopes this new concept auction of the furniture that were part of the much publicized controversial Wedgewood home that he shared with his ex, will help raise money for the charities he supports and create an awareness for "Turning Dust Into Bricks".

When asked why he would auction such pieces, Vegas responds "I cannot bare to see them and after throwing away the bed I thought about the pain versus the waste. In thinking, I realized I was being selfish and there were many ways that people could benefit from this. One being the children from the Mustard Seed Community, which is a charity I support. Also, in doing this I would hope to teach men who have been in my position, that all is not lost, a little laughter will help.  Try turning your bad situation or circumstance into a good one, this world is about healing".

Vegas went on to say that if he had thrown the furniture away, people would be unaware of his healing process and he wishes to motivate people who feel there is no hope in coming out of a negative situation.

The first auction includes pieces of the much publicized bedroom set: two matching night stands, a 6 drawer dresser with a decorative mirror and a chest of drawers, all pieces crafted of oak wood.  The "Turning Dust Into Bricks" auction will open at a bid of $9.99.  http://tinyurl.com/BedroomFurnitureSaleForCharity

Sean Paul sued for $80M by alleged ex-girlfriend

Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Sean Paul is being sued in New York for $80 million.

He is being sued by a woman who says she is his 'ex'. Susanne Persson claims that Sean Paul  had her illegally deported from Jamaica and drove her to attempt suicide.

Persson, who is from Sweden, said Sean Paul "bribed Jamaican police" to oust her from the country in June 2010, the suit claims.

The documents, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, include an illustrated, self-written, 120-page tell-all that promises on its cover to allegedly expose: "The Truth About Sean Paul's Cocainene Dealings, Lies, Murders and Erection Problems."

The work, titled "Irie Jamboree: My life in Jamaica as a jet set slave with the enormous secret of a love affair with Jamaica's perhaps most well known Dancehall Artist," has a childishly hand-drawn cover depicting Persson in a blue sari and Paul with his signature Mohawk.

"Ever since [Paul] started using yayo regularly, he has had severe erection problems. If it lasts one minute, it is a good day," Persson alleges in the 11-chapter work, which she submitted as a supporting document to her self-filed lawsuit.

Persson included her American Airlines itinerary from Kingston, Jamaica, to Stockholm, Sweden, on June 24, in the court filing. Headline Entertainment, Paul's promotion company, made the reservation, according to the receipt. Immigration authorities forced her to board the plane, the lawsuit, which was filed in New York claims.

Sean Paul's  lawyer denied the deportation allegations.

"He would not have the power to do that," said attorney Tom Taveres-Finson.

The day before Persson was allegedly booted from the country, she claims she attempted suicide. "I had tried to kill myself, losing more than one liter of blood from a cut on my wrist," she wrote in the court filing. "I had shown the pictures of the cuts to Sean over the Internet. I feel he should see what he had caused."

Persson said the singer, who turns 40 next week, ruined her life.

He subjected her to "starvation, homelessness, repeated suicide attempts, loss of ability to generate income," the complaint alleges.

In the end York Castle was forced to go home empty handed. The school challenge quiz tragedy has now become a BBM joke as several persons on Black Berry Messenger were seen with this display picture labeling it as the Dunce School. As the host would say "Well tried York Castle high".

aidonia.jpg
J.O.P recording artiste Aidonia had his most successful year in 2012, However, the artiste was ignored by at least two popular award shows, ending his year in a huge anticlimax.

Aidonia's manager Lav Lawrence says he is not upset over the artiste's omission from the award shows.

According to Lav, Aidonia had a positive 2012 and received his first million views on YouTube.com due to improvements in his visibility.

The song which received a million views is Tan Tuddy. However Tan Tuddy was not nominated for song of the year, nor was it nominated for best video.

Lav believes Aidonia has received much fight in the entertainment industry due to his past. However he remains optimistic that in 2013 the artiste will continue to grow on the charts and become a household name.

He also disclosed that the fans are saying a total different thing from the award shows.

Aidoina is currently working on his debut album as well as a JOP mixtape. Members of the JOP camp like Tan Suh and Deablo have also released mixtapes, while ex-members like Suverto and Navino are focused on their solo careers.

Webmin

Some residents in the community claim Clif Twang's baby mother did not seek to put the comedic artiste under pressure, until she saw that he developed popularity.

omi.jpg

As a result the congregation had to go home disappointed. They also allege that the some of the items missing was bought by the minister with the church convention money.

Producer Seanizzle, who got his rhythm remixed with Busta Rhymes, believes dancehall music has made its mark internationally and outlined that the visit of the international artistes is testimony that the genre has crossed borders.

Young Reggae artiste Melloquence on the other hand, warned that the attitude of local artistes will determine their latitude. He also drew reference to P.Diddy's recent visit to Jamaica where various several expletives was used by some selectors. The young artiste believes artistes should be aware of their surroundings and know when to speak, what to say and where to say it.

The second "Turning Dust Into Bricks" auction, will also open with a bid of $9.99 and consists of a 3 piece taupe micro-fiber and leather living room set - sofa, love seat and recliner chair  http://tinyurl.com/LivingRoomSetSaleForCharity

As a result the congregation had to go home disappointed. They also allege that the some of the items missing was bought by the minister with the church convention money.

Members of the church claim that they and the minister have been at odds since the misappropriation of funds said to have been in the possession of the pastor.

The police are doing investigations, and might be seeking the pastor for a meeting shortly.

Industry players believe the Jamaican music industry should capitalize on the growing visits, of international recording artistes to the island. While some artistes regard the international visits as being positive, others feel like local industry players should improve their crafts.

spragga-benz-and-foxy-brown.jpg
Internationally recognized reggae/dancehall artiste Spragga Benz, believe artistes should be like two time Grammy Award winner Shabba Ranks.

Spragga Benz gave props to Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg) for his work with Jamaican artistes. However according to the veteran the recent performance delivered by Shabba at Sumfest represents the standard those other local artistes to aim to emulate.

Spragga Benz believes only when local artistes realize that professionalism is the key, will they begin to ink deals with major record labels and artistes.

International artistes who have made Jamaica their choice of destination over the past years include Ne-Yo, Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg), Busta Rhymes, P Diddy, Pusha T, Gwen Steffani, Eve, Rihanna and Sean Kingston among others.

Best of all, since you're in the driver's seat you can stay in sync with him, so as a final reward you may be able to experience that explosive, but often elusive, moment: the simultaneous orgasm! This racy rendezvous is a surefire way for combustible carnal results.

A Jamaican woman had her jewellery and cellphone stolen, by an 11-year-old girl after she took the child in from the volatile streets of Kingston, where she was seen wandering.

The second "Turning Dust Into Bricks" auction, will also open with a bid of $9.99 and consists of a 3 piece taupe micro-fiber and leather living room set - sofa, love seat and recliner chair  http://tinyurl.com/LivingRoomSetSaleForCharity
