Three members of the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND) were reportedly held hostage by residents of Roses Valley in the south western parish of St Elizabeth.

Reports are that the members of the TCND went into the area in an unmarked vehicle and were held hostage. They were later freed when police personnel from the parish went to their assistance.

The residents accused the cops of trying to steal ganja (marijuana) from the community. They proceeded to block the roads, preventing the cops from leaving the area.

The cultivation, possession and sale of ganja are still illegal in Jamaica.

Assistant Commissioner Derrick Cochrane, head of the police Area Three headquarters said that the police were conducting an operation in the community when they were confronted by irate residents.

He said the allegations made by the residents were being investigated.
